Not a thumb grip, but I have a SmallRig grip on my X-T4. Makes it fit my hand much better than the camera on its own… no downsides.
I have read of the hot shoe mounted thumb grips occasionally causing problems with the hot shoe, but it seems from the few people that I’ve seen mention it that it’s fairly rare.

I’ve tried one on my Original X100 and the X100v. Decided they’re not for me. I never shoot one handed though.

Yes, all of them except my XS10 (because that has a nice grip). On bodies that are "thinner", I do.
It gives me more confidence in holding it 1 handed.

Whatever one you get, make sure if has that slant to give you good access to the dial. Some has a little rubber stop so it doesn't scratch the body when you press it in. Smallrig makes nice ones. Aliexpress sells loads too. The most expensive one is on my X-Pro1, which flips out to let you turn the dial but I think the Smallrig one with the cut out slot is fine.

I use them on pretty much all of my cameras and I find them very useful, it's like in the film days we used to keep the advance lever at the half cock, it gives a sturdiness to holding the camera.

My suggestion would be the X-S20, or one of the other lower end Fuji kits, but realistically it is something that your daughter will need to be bought into, because you don't want to be figuring out a camera and trying to take a photo whilst also trying to strangle a small child. Most parents tend to just use a mobile phone - then it is easy to share photos with grandparents etc (we have an Apple Photos album for the boys that the family all have access to).

I should add, not all thumb grips are made equal. Some are really comfortable, others are not. For me I think the Lensmate ones are best for Fujis but I also have a Thumbs Up on my X100T (not the one in the photo(must do another photo with the Thumbs up on the X100T)) which is almost as comfortable as the original Lensmate one I had on my first X100T (again not the one in the photo).Great, thanks.

Re: your second body.
IMO I think you have to decide how you will use this camera, if its as a second body to take out at the same time as your X-T50, then I would consider a second ILC body but if your goal is to have something different to take out on its own, then maybe an X100 derivative will suit. Its a very different experience and one that can really challenge you. I spent a year back in 2012/3 where I only used an X100 out of the house, I felt that it improved my photograhy significantly (and more importantly the way I saw things)
I relish the challenge with going out with just a single focal length and feel that some of best photographs are taken this way, as I can't be lazy, you have to work a bit harder for shots, it makes me more creative, I have to look for angles in a scene that will work. I like this but I accept that its not for all.
Of course you can achieve this by taking a single prime on an ILC body, but there is always that 'space' in your bag where you can squeeze in an alternative lens!
As a JPG SOOC Shooter I think you will find one of older X100's (X100, X100S) a real challenge, The sensors have less dynamic range, the EVF and rear screen are much lower resolution (and laggy), they are not as clean at high ISO and the JPG options are lot more limited than the later and current cameras. Thats not to say you can't take good images, you will just have to work harder.
It all depends where you want to take your photography. With say a £500-700 budget you have a lot of options.

Appreciate this; and yeah i think for me a second body is going to be something that goes out separately rather than a 'backup' body for the X-T50 (or 5 if I go that way). I'm not a pro so there arent any situtations where I need a backup body. I shoot some bike races but its not under contract so if my camera failed I'd just have to shrug it off and go home!
The X-T50 was an opportunistic purchase and whilst its a great camera I dont feel as inspired by it as I was by my X-T20. Which is weird because the form factor is basically the same and the X-T50 has a lot of quality of life updates.
I was considering going to an X-T30II but I'm loathe to give up the IBIS and 40mp sensor as its great from cropping for wildlife and bike races. So, you know, instead of selling the X-T50 and maybe making some money back, I'm considering a second camera for more money instead
Anyway, thats a very long way round of saying that yeah I think an X100 format would be great fun and something different. As I enjoyed the X-T20 I was thinking the equivalent sensor X100 which I think is the F. If I can't stomach spending the cash though, the backup is an X-E2 or 3 I think.

I know, mine was one of the most battered X100F's available as it was in my hand when I fell at Dinorwic breaking my ankle (it also had collided with the pavement in a previous trip in Birmingham - was the camera jinxing me?) - after the ankle break in 2020 I reckoned (with the market prices at the time), that it was worth £400-£450, I sold it about 15 months ago for £720 (on eBay) when decent condition examples were fetching around £900-£1000 - IMO properly mental prices.

But the xe1 and 27mm usually comes out with me as well.
Difficult to review the pictures in detail on screen, but once home and pictures downloaded, it rarely disappoints.
I did buy an xe4, but returned it as I didn’t gel with it.

I think you either need to go for something just smaller and lighter with a pancake lens. Or, an X100/X-pro variant for the different experience of using them in OVF, etc
That's what I like to do with my different cameras and I take the one/s that suit what I want to do and where I'm going.

Exactly the reason I went X100f - OVF with the framelines is the way I prefer to use it
I don't mind the EVF on the A7Riii at all, but I'm not keen on the EVF colours/quality on the X100f. The Yashica FX3 obviously gives me the full OVF through the lens view. And the very recently acquired Yashica Mat 124g just messes with my brain

The T5 doesn't have all the "character" of the earlier sensor, but it's still the best camera I have owned. Mate it with a lens suited for the 40MP sensor and it delivers. Recent shots of garden birds on the 100-400 have captured great detail, (although iFuji still fall behind the big 3 on following movement0 and paired with the 33 f1.4, it copes with my grandson running around in terms of focus speed.More gear questions: In the next 6 months or so I'm considering an extra body. I love the sensor in the X-T20; so I'm considering either an X-E3 or an X100F.
Anyone got any thoughts on which might be the better choice? Obviously the X-E3 has the interchangeable lens options; but I assume its less compact.
I might also flip my X-T50 for an X-T5 at some point; so I'd have a 'fun' compact cam and a 'proper' one.
Again, any thoughts an opinions from this kind and knowledgable parish are much appreciated

I had to go to the bank yesterday, so I deliberately parked at the wrong end of the high street and had a walk with my camera, testing my new Viltrox 35mm F/1.7 Air. First impressions are pretty good. AF is fast, it's nice and sharp even wide open, and using the front dial to change aperture isn't much of a chore.

Most dealers are selling between £270 and £320 - so you might get as much as £350 for an absolute minter, but it will be a hard sell at that price.

As an alternative thought. Have you considered the Fuji 27mm f2.8 wr? I don't know the physical differences between the T5 and x100v. Might be an option though.

I haven't looked at prices in the past month or two, but from what it was (if it was me) I would try to wait out for a Vi rather than buy a V.
