The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

@Craikeybaby What settings are you using when shooting mountain biking? Just getting my head around the focus settings on the X-T50. Quite a few extra bits than my X-T20. Want to make a custom profile for it seeing as I do it semi-often.
Usually shutter priority at 1/500th to 1/1000th, unless I'm panning. Bike subject detection for AF.

More gear questions: In the next 6 months or so I'm considering an extra body. I love the sensor in the X-T20; so I'm considering either an X-E3 or an X100F.

Anyone got any thoughts on which might be the better choice? Obviously the X-E3 has the interchangeable lens options; but I assume its less compact.

I might also flip my X-T50 for an X-T5 at some point; so I'd have a 'fun' compact cam and a 'proper' one.

Again, any thoughts an opinions from this kind and knowledgable parish are much appreciated :)

I would think that if you're chopping your t50 in for a T5, then the x100* series would be the best bet. But only if you're fine with the rangfinder style.

Yeah well I would like the two cameras to be different in styles and sensors; otherwise I don't really see the point. I know X-E3 is a rangefinder 'style' but as its fully EVF its not quite the same. I do fancy an X100* but damn, those prices

I find that X-H2s and X100V work well together - the X-H2s for "proper" photography, and the X100 for casual stuff.

Yeah the prices are silly, even for the older models. Good luck with your hunt ;)

X-E5, anyone?
  • Fujifilm X-E5 could be the first new X-E model since 2021’s X-E4
  • It's now rumored to come with a 40MP sensor and in-body stabilization
  • Could launch in on June 12 alongside new 23mm pancake prime lens

I'm VERY interested in that 23mm pancake. I get the feeling it will be bundled with the X-E5 though, which will probably lead to less available on their own...

Yeah, same. I’m considering getting the 23mm f2 this year but if a pancake comes out and it’s comparable in image quality…

I'd love one.....i don't know why but I am turning into collecting Fuji bodies of all things.....I have almost as many bodies as I do lenses.

Nice work! We’ve also got a strip of lawn that we’ve let go wild
Thanks, mate. All from seed, too. There's a few oddballs from what was left in the old very overgrown garden before we moved in.

I notice that the official UK dealers sell used (just) below new price. They are soon sold.

Does the original x100 hold up nowadays? Still looking for a compact second body…

No, it is clunky as F to use.

To change focus, you have to use your left hand because the button is on the left side on the back, it is a 2 hand operation to move the focus point. The AF is not reliable, the EVF is really dated, both the LCD and EVF doesn't really reflect what the final exposure level truly looks like, you either have to trust your gut or use the histogram. It is so clunky it feels like a Analogue camera in digital form. If you like that, then it's great. Use it with the OVF to get that old school film camera feel. It's kinda so bad from a modern POV it now has charm if you know what i mean. Like you don't use a Rolleiflex and expect A7R5 level of handling.

In fact, what it produces is like an analogue file, skipping the actual shooting film step entirely.

For what they used to go for before Covid, like £200....it was fantastic, not so much at £500 though but i have seen one for £350 last month. If I can find one for like £300 in Silver I might get it again, or the S. As the black one I have is a Limited Edition in like new condition.

You’ve somehow made it sound awful and really appealing at the same time!

What about the results, are the files decent enough?

Yeah, the files are nice, but DR isn't its strong point. It does the 90's muted look really well yet isn't all the way into that compact camera look if you know what i mean. Despite the low pixel count and the "soft" lens, they kinda go well together and you don't get the feeling that it is a soft lens.

There is 1 thing I noticed, due to the low DR, you get a really nice contrast look from the photo out of it when you expose for the right places. Modern cameras you end up pushing it to more HDR look in the slider without really realising. This way you get a more old school movie/film look. You can see a couple of photos where the sky is blown completely.

Have you maybe considered a X-E1 body ?

I have an excellent condition silver version that I could let go….

Regards.

The colours straight out of the original X100 are exceptional, there is something very special about that original Bayer sensor.

but as @Raymond Lin says there are a lot of limitations. Its a bit like taking a classic car out, its a lot of fun, very enjoyable, the end result is excellent but the the journey can be a little bumpy!

Hello Everyone
So, my daughter is having her first in September and loved photography growing up.
I’ve thought about buying her and hubby a camera which they can easily use (so would mostly be auto settings at first) but something that is designed as a point and shoot bit also can take good portrait/action shots.
Being a Fuji person myself (although not really knowing about the full range) my first choice is to ask which Fuji you’d recommend but happy to also look at alternative brands.
Many thanks
Philip

New or used?

So depends.
Ideally new but I’ve always bought second hand, apart from my XT-5.
I guess budget if £500 maybe £750 but would go to £1000 if I was really pushed - my first grandchild after all:)

My vote would be for the X-T3 and the kit (18-55) lens to start with, the X-T3 is a bit of a sleeper in the Fuji range, as firmware updates significantly improved the AF.

I've bought two X-T3's in the year (one private sale (on here) £515 and one from a dealer with warranty £649), I didn't buy a second one as the first one broke, but I have a use case requiring two bodies, so I don't have to change lenses in the field.
