The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

The half frame thing....IMO, an excuse to save money on sensor and then using old cameras as an excause to do it with that format, then lean into it heavily.

XE5...that will completely kill the sale of these once that comes out.

I really don't get the whole vertical framing thing...

Half frame was always vertical format, and Fuji have a history of half frame medium format cameras (6x4.5) which were all vertical format (GS645, GA645, etc)

Its a modern day equivalent of a film P&S, and I suspect not for anyone on this forum, as @Raymond Lin says an X100/X100S is a better bet for the same money for the photographer.

I was working in Swansea last week, so I had a wander around, and went to Mumbles.

X-T4 and XF 16-80mm F/4. I had a polariser on too, but I kept forgetting about it (you can see in the corners of some of the shots).

I was playing with a recipe I found on Fuji X Weekly, called Pacific Blues. I think I quite like it.

Very nice :) I want to get over that way for a long weekend at some point. I've done Three Cliffs Bay, but that was night skies and sunrise :)

I'm obviously getting very finger-clumsy with my X-Pro 2.
This morning I managed to change the focus selector switch to 'M', keep hitting the 'Q' button, and accidentally alter the Exposure Compensation setting!
I wonder if a Thumb-grip might help bring some discipline to my hand - anyone use one?

I'm sure most of us have got a little ham fisted with our cameras from time to time. Did you know you've also got the wrong date set on your X-Pro 2 camera. ;)

I kept pressing the Q whilst carrying when I first got the X100f. I was getting a thumb grip anyway for the comfort but it does stop any accidental presses too.

Must do better!

Might give it a try then. (y)

I have a Smallrig grip on my X-T4, and I had the Fuji grip on my X-T30, which I got second-hand from Wex for about £10. They’re both a lot more comfortable in the hand than the cameras on their own.

A shot from my son's cycle speedway training earlier in the week. I thought it was just a fairly typical shot. I shared it with my parents, as they like to see photos of the boys, and my dad thinks it is one of the best photos I've taken. I'll take that.

Regarding the X Half, my hope is that TikTok/Instagram obsess over it and loose interest in the X100 line so the used prices come down to what the should really be, rather than the inflated prices they are at the moment.
That's a fair point, not sure Fuji have really thought this through, they could easily trash their reputation with this new overpriced piece of junk.

Talk to me about variable ND and mist filters. Whats worth getting? I watched a few vids, a 1/8 black mist looks pretty cool?

I've dabbled with ND filters - at one point owning a set of square 3, 6, and 9 stoppers. Under most circumstances, I'd use the the 3 stop, very occasionally the 6, and can count on one hand how many times the 9 came out.

I didn't use them enough, so "downgraded" to a variable. I still barely use it, but at least it's a £35 waste as opposed to £120.

Variables can be hit and miss, but both my fixed and variables were from K&F and they've been great. No noticable colour casts or weird "X" that you get in poor variables. No complaints whatsoever.

Same goes for my black mist. It's great, and is glued to my 27mm 1.2.

It's the K&F 1/8 - K&F are apparently a little weaker than others, so it's super subtle. Unless you have very bright specular highlights, or are shooting lights at night, you wouldn't even notice it.

For both the variable and the black mist, I got the K&F "nano k" series. They have a few series - K, X, etc... The only difference is coatings. I think the K series is the lowest spec, but it's been fine for me.

Great info, thanks! Yeah I certainly won't be dropping £100s on Urth filters :ROFLMAO: one variable and a mist is good enough for now.

Are all Fuji lenses the same size?

Purely serendipity but all of my lenses are 67mm filter threads - Tamron 17-70mm, Fuji 70-300mm, Samyang 12mm and Viltrox 27mm 1.2.

I just bought a laowa 65mm macro and that's the odd one out.

I've got a couple of k&f dark mist filters, and really like them. Sensible price too.

I have Tiffen 1/8 Black Pro mist, B&H in the US sells it much cheaper, even after shipping.

I think 1/8 is strong enough, I can't imagine how heavy the glow would be at 1/4 strength.

I have a K&F filter, can't remember whether it's 1/8 or 1/4. I've only used it once, when I was shooting with models in bright midday sun.

For ND filters, I have a 6-stop and a 10-stop. I used them both together last week to get a 5 minute exposure of Mumbles lighthouse:

And one of my favourite shots was also taken with 16 stops:

I really like that ethereal misty water look you get from a very long exposure, but I know that a lot of people don't. If you're just looking for a way to expose correctly on a bright day then a 6-stop will probably be enough.

Dont see the point in the half - my iPhone 16 takes very good photos, and if I want better I will use XT3 or X100V. So I cant see many on here using it. If you have a new iPhone I cant see anyone dropping 700 on it either. IMO it needs to be half the price to be an option

Looks like Viltrox are cooking up more "Pro" lenses - a 50mm 1.4, a 56mm 1.2, and an 85mm 1.4. I suspect the 1.4s will be full frame and the 56mm 1.2 will be APSC.
