The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Since we live 15 miles apart, we should do something to chnage your socialising behaviour :)
I could certainly learn a thing or two from you! You’re on :)

I’m not really a recluse, honest!

Back to the 40mp sensor business - I assume the shooting at a different size on the camera isn’t going to ‘fix’ this issue?

No becuase the optics don't have the resoolving capability to make sharp images with such small photosites (pixels)

We'll sort something out

Noticed an issue on the EVF on my X-E1 last summer.
When shooting into bright sun light the EVF blacked out.
Had the same issue yesterday, so was playing about with it this morning and worked out it was the sun shining off my forehead onto the EVF sensor and blacking out the EVF.
Will have to see if I can find a rubber eyecup

I’m assuming you can only get captures like this shooting RAW and post-processing? My JPEG straight-out-of-camera workflow can do most things but contrasty sunsets are not one of them

It was a RAW and deliberately underexposed to minimise blowing out the sun. Of course there is some there still as I don’t have any grad filters

Live has been getting in the way of my photography recently, but I managed to get out at the weekend to shoot a local downhill mountain bike race. Here are a few of my favourite shots:

Thanks. The trails were really dusty, which made for tough riding conditions.

Anyone got their hands on the 16-55 mkii yet?
I don't know if it's just because it's not available, but I'm finding myself REALLY wanting one.

I just posted a comparison on the Viltrox and the TTArtisan on Reddit if anyone is interested. I think its probably a bit below most users here though :)

View: https://www.reddit.com/r/fujifilm/comments/1knwi02/ttartisan_27mm_28_vs_viltrox_28mm_45_a_dull_and/

TTA is miles ahead in terms of flare, but damn that's a strong vignette. I mean, I like a strong vignette but it's such a hard transition. Yikes.

That was my main problem with the TTA, it vignetted like mad at anything less than F/8. I'm happy with the Viltrox for what it is, I don't regret selling the TTA. I think @colourofsound nailed it when he said he just doesn't like it - that's kind of how I felt about it too (although I did see that they did a yellow version briefly, which I did quite like the look of!).

On the subject of third-party lenses, has anyone tried the Viltrox 35mm F/1.7 Air?

Yeah it’s kind of ridiculous. I think the Viltrox is probably the better package because it really commits to its purpose; whereas the TTA is a mess of compromises

Looks like the X-Half embargo is lifted.

Watched a couple of YT quick look so far and I don't think it is for me. It has a FF eqv of F/8.0 in terms of DoF and no phase detect AF (although i doubt that will be much of a problem since it is like F/8).

I love the size, I even like the workflow and even the design but for like £850, I can't help but think I will just get a XM5 and forgo the workflow out of it then use my own lenses. Since I have the X100VI it makes even less sense.

(The vertical framing also not a fan....)

I am certainly not its target demographic but I am not sure if the instax/instragram crowd want to spend £850 on a camera?

UK price seems to be coming out at £699, which is still about double what I would have expected.

As an X100VI owner I won't be taking the plunge, but, if it was around £300-350 I may have taken a punt.

Shame.

Ah, still only £100 less than the XM5.

The fact that a phone has better IQ is something I did not expect too.

Honestly, get a X100 original or the S, save yourself a couple hundred quid and get the same slow, analogue experience. Especially the OG X100.

I sort of get the more point and shoot, half frame film, snapshot, low iq idea of it..... but I don't really see the appeal to most photographers. Maybe the vertical shooting social media people might jump on it more, but most photographers are generally chasing better tech and IQ etc

Now if they made a medium format sensor'd camera with a waist level screen like a TLR or the Hasselblad etc...... with the pop up box too....

I understand where they are coming from and I 100% with you on the fact that from a more "photographer's" side of the fence, this camera is a hard sell. Espeically if you have, like me, with an X100VI, and perhaps other Fuji bodies that are whilst larger than this X-half, is not that big really.

What gets me or stop me from getting it is some of the internal missing features for the money that are in bodies that are similar in size and price.

1 - No Phase detect AF
2 - No Hot shoe
3 - LED flash? really? give me a real flash to get that true analgue film camera look.

Plus it is just too expensive for what it is, the "experience" of it, I scare it will be a novelty that will wear off quickly.

I really don't get the whole vertical framing thing... Is shooting in portrait really a problem that needed to be fixed? And the whole "Half frame" thing is just ridiculous. Half frame cameras were a solution to film being a finite resource. Digital doesn't have that limitation, so "Half Frame" is really just marketing speak for small sensor.

Everything about this camera rubs me the wrong way. Maybe I'm just salty that it isn't an updated X30...
