The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

I have an 8mm lens, but it's a fisheye - which I quite like for landscapes occasionally.

I do want to get a 10-24 at some point too.

I use my 10-24 a lot on my Dartmoor Photowalks with my X-T2s also my 20-35 on my GFX I find them great for landscape shots.

Landscapes as opposed to urbanscapes are easier IMO with a UWA (as long as you can avoid a nothing forgrouns, a ribbon of interest and a huge sky!!!

I've barely done any photography this year, work and life have got in the way. However I got to Donington Park with my son this morning to watch/shoot the Dukeries Rally, and it was great to get back out!

My (8 year old) son used my old X-T2 and 55-200 and got some great shots, including a better shot of the winning car than I did. At least I can say I taught him everything he knows about photography...

Personally for me I have always found around 13/14mm (20mm on ff terms) to be the widest I use find it very hard to shoot wider than that.

I like the 8-16. I'm willing to haul it around and rearely leave home without it these days.

But I do spend some time on and off with a Sigma DP0Q which is APS-C and fixed 14mm - and if I was going for a fixed focal length wide angle - then I would probably go with this.

I think it depends a lot of what your shooting, the only wider lens than 16mm I have at the minute is the Viltrox 13mm.
Mind you this as got me thinking just to have a 10-24 and loved it at the time.

Has anyone tried these battery on their cameras?

I have several NP-W235 batteries - one of which is a dotFoto battery with a USB-C socket.

I haven't really be tempted to buy more. Why? Well the batteries with in-built USB-C seem to be slightly lower capacity. They cost more (OK we maybe all have different levels of price sensitivity). You only get to charge one battery per USB-C source.

I prefer cheaper batteries without the USB-C and to carry a small Nitecore dual charger when travelling. That gives me more indication of state of charge.

I treat the USB-C battery as a single backup. Happy to have one. But currently don't plan to buy more.

Thanks. Yeah, the idea for them are basically just emergency travel batteries....but I find 3rd party battery never last...I can get 2 for £20. Or 1 Fuji for £45....

I find 3rd party batteries OK. About 80% of the capacity of the OEM versions at about 25% to 33% of the cost. And no real worries about counterfeits.

My cynical view is that OEM batteries from camera companies are a complete rip-off.

I tend to be careful with non-OEM batteries. I have settled on dotFoto over the last few years and used variants for Olympus, Sigma, and both main Fuji types.

I feel the same, 3rd party batteries aren't as good but so much cheaper, and OEM seem overpriced.
I don't go with the idea that one ought to buy originals, and have never heard of a 3rd party battery damaging a camera.

Just notice one of my original Fuji battery started to have a tiny cushion on one side…it’s so obvious when they don’t slide out of the camera easily and need a little shake….

When I got my X-T4 I bought a couple of spare batteries, and I read a thread on here about why you should never use 3rd party batteries if you charge them in the camera, because if they expand they might get stuck or damage the camera, so I sold them and bought a couple of Fuji ones.
Ironic that that's exactly the problem you're having now with a Fuji battery!

I’m going to HK so need a couple of spares, I was going to use the battery from the XS-10 as my spare but that is the one that developed the cushion effect…I’ve bought those 3rd party ones for now to test out. I might pick up a Fuji one when I’m in HK too.

I've never had a problem with 3rd party batteries, I've used them in all my cameras. It was literally reading the comment that said "If they expand and get hot while you're charging them in your camera it'll be a big problem" that made me change my mind, because this is the first camera I've owned where I don't have a separate charger. In hindsight, I should have just bought a charger :D

I do have a separate charger, both official Fuji one (wall plug) and a 3rd party (micro USB). But when travelling I just charge it internally because I like to travel light. These newer 3rd party ones are handy as in there is a USB port in them. Capacity size is actually similar to the Fuji one on paper.

I had an x-pro one swell up. Fortunately it was on a charger, and didn't just drop into my old T2. It got stuck about 3/4 of the way in, and ended up getting it out with mole grips, as that was the only tool I had that would open wide enough. Only ever bought Fuji batteries after that.

I've been using 3rd party (Patona) for years without issue. They last just as long if not longer than my Fuji original. In fact the only swollen battery I ever had was a Fuji one on my XT1.

This snap has not been posted via Flickr as I'm trying to keep that a/c for my mono street work, hence the dip in quality.

On the previous talk about batteries, what do you use for travelling and protecting batteries especially the wp235. Anyone have any recommendations for boxes or pouches that fit the wp235's ?

I've got a couple of 3D printed cases that I got from Etsy. They work really well but they were a bit of a silly price. Someone on here (I think it was @Paulie-W ) bought some much cheaper ones not too long ago, from somewhere like AliExpress or Temu.

Yeah, I got one from temu. Cost a couple of quid. Perfect fit and a little hinged clamp lid. I just searched "battery case for Fuji xt5". Ali express got the same thing...

Flash question

Good morning my Fuji friends.
I’m looking at buying a flash for my T3. Mainly for using in dark gig venues, but sculptures too.
Any advice or thoughts would be welcome.
The last time I possessed a flash was the one that came with a T1.

Thanks in advance.

I use godox 685's with the accompanying remote. I think they work pretty well. 4 AA batteries, but they do a version that's re-chargable.

Does anyone want a purple metal convex shutter button? I bought it from Ebay but I prefer the concave one I already had

Not looking for anything for it; just donate a couple of quid to the coffee fund...

In the spirit of the previous post - I have an L bracket for X-H2(s) that I am happy to give to a member on here for a small donation to the TP coffee fund.

I use Godox.

I have the TT685 (mentioned by another poster). These don't seem as widely available now - they also use AA cells. I use the basic X-T1 trigger. But it's nice they have different trigger options.

Once you have a wireless trigger you can use other Godox kit - so I also now have an AD200Pro II which I have only just started playing with.

If you are using the flash kit a lot then I think it is worth going for Li-ion battery versions - so V860 rather than TT685.

I am also happy with Godox.
