The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

I'm a Sony shooter for work but I am thinking of getting a Fuji for non work. Fuji say they will send me 5 bits of gear for two weeks to try out. I was thinking of the X-T5 and X-T 50 with a standard f2.8 lens. Any other lenses I should try, smaller the better. Nothing longer than 50mm . Came will mainly be used for holiday snaps, no sports and no wildlife. 25 years ago before I became a professional photography was my hobby. This camera is to get some of that back.

For the smaller size. I would suggest the f2 primes (23,35 &50). All the other lenses are growing in size and weight. There`s always the X100 range if you want to really keep it small.

Day 303 of being 50 and owning an X100VI (continued)...

Re-edit of a couple of older X100V snaps. Longing for warmer spring weather and promenade walks in the sun with an ice cream, as I sit looking out of the window whilst supposed to be working :)

I would go with the X-S20 rather than the X-T50 as the second camera to try, as that will allow you to experience the hybrid PASM style Fujis, rather than just the traditional style, it is also a smaller/cheaper body like the X-T50. Lens wise, I would go for the new 16-55 f2.8, one of the f2 primes (exactly which one depends on what you like to shoot), then the new 16-50 f2.8 to f4.8 kit lens - it is a lot smaller than the 16-55 f2.8 and fairly cheap when bought as a kit, so it would be helpful to compare against the more expensive standard lens.

I know it is only 5 bits of kit, but also consider one of the high end Fuji primes, if they fit in with your shooting style.

Not sure the X-s20 is for me, I own a Sony A1 and A9 if I just want a practical camera. So I am looking at the retro styled bodies. I have heard amazing things about the kit lens which I think I would get especially if I get a none stabilised body. I shoot 60 weddings and 60 corporate events a year, so looking at the fuji for their film simulation in JPEG's. I'm not a fan of editing when I am paid to do it let alone for fun :)

I use the XT5 as I like the dials on the top, I also use the 18-55mm kit lens it came with and I’m more than happy with the results

My suggestion was more to help you get a feel for the different types of Fuji, and also to try the 26MP files. I wrote off the "hybrid" style Fujis, until I tried one, and found that I preferred it. The new kit lens is not stabilised. The old 18-55 is though and is still a good lens.

@bovey9 - Weather Resistant might play a part here in your lens choices

If you want to explore the retro style/handling then the X-T5 is the way to go, then pair with a standard zoom (new 16-55 if you want F2.8 throughout the range) or the new 16-50 'kit' lens (which is lovely - and compact), then I'd pick a prime based on your preferred focal length and whether you want fast or compact.

If you have big hands, or a dislike for small EVFs or a requirement for WR then I would give the X-Tx0 range a swerve

If you like FF 50mm, then I would suggest the 33 f1.4. It hardly comes off of my T5, unless I'm doing something specific (wildlife or landscapes).

I think I would try an XT5 and then an X100/Pro body if two bodies are an option. Just for the two different styles of camera set up. I have shot Sony with some nice glass for years and still do for my dedicated landscape and night skies etc but the X100f (for me) for general 'film style' shooting is just so enjoyable. I shoot mainly OVF with no image review and shot all of our Christmas day stuff with the onboard flash too. If you do come across a shot you want to get perfect, just use the screen or flick the switch for EVF in 0.6 seconds ;)
