The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

nice photos,I notice you use the 100-400 and 33 a lot also. They both render close ups nicely , the 33 seems to render nice closeups with a good balance ,hmm food for thought

Most of the second hand ones have moisture in,is this common as a result of the innards?
In all honesty, I have no idea.

35, not the 33
For semi close up. The 35 is really nice, as it can focus pretty damn close.

Playing with the camera on the way to Kawaguchiko, I grabbed this as a train passed in the opposite direction. I didn't use burst, just a single shot, so this was super lucky! I wasn't expecting anything, I just sometimes like to feel the shutter click. As it happens, I like the way the silhouettes lined up, and love that greeny colour of the glass.

I had no idea about them TBH, I just spotted it in a field near another area of interest (Maple Corridor), no signs around it or anything like that.

From what I gather from Reddit - There is a museum nearby, so it's likely something to do with them, and VERY likely to be a replica.

It seems there are a few around in various museums. Most of them dog's dinners with America seeming to have the most.

Can anyone help me with geotagging images please? I've got an X-T30 (version1) which I don't believe has GPS to be able to tag images but I thought there was a way of geotagging by using the Fuji X-App (on an iPhone 12 in my case). On my phone I've allowed the app to have location services always on but its still not saving a location - do I need to do something like have the app open in one hand whilst using the camera in the other?!

How does one even read this roadmap? I'm a bit confused
Being a little out dated... (Hence the new kit lens is now out 16-50). But greyed out usually means, coming soon, kinda thing. Black is already available.

If you go past those areas during Sakura season, it’s magical. I wanted to get off the train so many times.

I'm torn about Sakura season. On the one hand I imagine it's incredible and something I'd love to experience, but on the other hand everywhere is much more crowded, things are harder to book etc and that just puts me off.

I guess heading out to more remote areas would be best.

It wasn't THAT bad last year, but I suspect next year will be mad.

If you go, go north of Tokyo, Sendai and up, it will be much quieter. Stay outside the Golden Triangle and don't chase Sakura in Kyoto, that place is bad enough already with crowds.

This is one the way back from Kawaguchiko too.

really struggling with mone hit rate is very poor ,i accept i got a lot with camera shake but im struggling using on xt-30 body , is it going to be a case of getting the H2S ,
dont want to purchase one & still get poor results ,would sooner sell the fuji stuff & stick with my dated nikon gear
Mainly warbids so i dont want to hike up shutter speeds

I know @trevorbray had one. But not sure if he took any aviation pix.

Trevor here. Yep Ive had this lens. Really liked it. Found it fast enough to focus. Plenty sharp. Appreciated the internal zoom. Don’t do aviation. Used it for moon and small birds.
Mounted on the X-H2S. Great combo. My favourite of all the APS-C Fuji bodies.

That's a big lens to have on that little body. I run the 100-400 with the 1.4TC (so 560mm @ f8) and it needs a steady hand or a mono/tripod on a non IBIS body. Using it with the T5 (IBIS) is different gravy...... The IBIS bodies really do help with these longer focal length lenses that aren't particularly fast.

My first thought was that it’s a big lens and a little body. I use the 100-400 on my X-T4 and it definitely handles better than it did on my X-T30.

Appreciate that thanks

Had it on a xt-4 faired no better
Appreciate it depends a lot on holding it steady/panning but I don’t think I’m that terrible

In theory the app (phone) and camera should communicate automatically, but they do not. You often have to open the app to get it to work. If the location is being transmitted to the camera you should get a red pin/grid icon on the camera screen.

It sounds like it might be worth using Fuji's free 48 hour test drives to try one of the IBIS bodies.

On android, this is likely down to power saving - the OS monitors apps for background power usage and "helpfully" disables any that use too much. GPS is quite power hungry, so having the app grabbing GPS data in the background will end up disabled pretty quickly.

Fortunately you can tell it not to do that for certain apps.

My only experience of panning is two visits to Brands Hatch, one RIAT and one Duxford flying evening. Of them, two were with a bridge camera and two with the 100-400. I found that the bridge camera was a lot easier to pan with, but I did find that I improved through the day (and evening) with the 100-400. I don’t know how much experience you have, could it just be that you need more time to get your eye in with that particular lens?

@andy759

I have panned (only one session so far) with the 100-400 at Oulton Park, I felt that it was succesful for the first time out with this lens, @RichardC27 probably has the most experience on this forum with panning with this lens

I find that it takes time to tune into panning, and changes of focal length or object speeds cause a reset on my panning skills, I also seem to have moments of brilliance (ie can succesfully pan for 10 mins or so) followed by complete 'can't pan for toffee' periods - I take my hat off to those you can pan with relatively large lenses at slow shutter speeds, my son could do it straight out the box, whereas my old hands don't have the smoothness!
