The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Right, I have boxed up a load of gear and will be heading to a camera shop before the end of the week and expect to come home with a black XT5, maybe an 18-55 and possibly a used 18-120 and a 75-300.
If anyone has any of the above they are thinking of selling very soon please let me know so we can sort out a wanted or for sale thread.
I've got a 10-24mk1, 16-55 f2.8, 18-135, 90 f2, 50-140, 55-200, 100-400, an XH1 and XH2s to trade in so should anyone be interested in possibly taking a bunch of this lot (say 3 items at least) then let me know as I could do a deal (obviously via a new classifieds thread) that would benefit us both..
I'm hoping that this is ok as far as forum rules are concerned - if not then apologies and I'll delete it!
I dont know your needs but I do know the 16-55 f2.8 and 90mm f2.0 are awesome on the XT5. I do agree that adding the 70-300 is a good move.
Hope that everything works out well for you. Enjoy the XT5.

I have the 18-55 and I really like it. Image quality is great, it's small and light and the OIS works well. I've been thinking about getting the 16-80 at some point as at the moment I have a gap between 55mm & 100mm, but in reality I don't think it's that much of an issue... I might just pick up a cheap 50-230 and keep the 18-55.

I'm not sure I know my needs either..
I'm now in the store, my gear is being checked and I think I'll be getting a 16-80 and a 75-300. I've got a viltrox 33 f1. 4 prime and may get another slightly longer one for low light.
I'd so like to keep most of my lenses but loosing a large amount of weight is so important to me.

Allow me to recommend the Sigma 56mm f/1.4. A cracking lens which may well suit your needs, if the focal length is right for you.

Well, that didn't go as planned or hoped.
Seems that despite keeping my gear in an open camera bag with silica gel sachets in it a few of my lenses have a slight fungus problem so LCE won't take them.
The guy said that it was a fairly common problem in Cornwall and Devon given the climate here but wouldn't have any effect on the images but that the cost of repair (by fuji) was likely to be around £240 each.
I'm going to have to post a classifieds thread for them explaining this so that any prospective buyers know the situation and adjust the prices to suit. The only one I could see anything on with my bare eyes was my 100-400.
Soooo, should anyone be looking for a bargain keep your eyes peeled in the classifieds over the next day or two..
Not ideal for me but I have come home with a 70-300 and an Xt5.

Fuji Repair costs are here https://repairs.fujifilm.eu/en/pricing/?prodgroup=2

If you can see it in one lens then it is likely to be a (resale) problem, but its not unknown for some dealers to be be more picky, this has happened with other forum members in the past, dealer XXX has rejected item because of 'fungus', dealer YYY has accepted item.

That said the Fuji repair costs are not unreasonable, its a very good service, so you can either sell as is, or get repaired and sell with a clean bill of health (recent service), or mix and match.

Best of luck, and I hope yopu end up with the outcome that you want.

Thank you Mr P, especially for the link to costs - I need a bit of cheering up!
I feel it might be best to allow any potential buyers to decide what to do - as image quality isn't affected they could buy a bargain and keep it as is or get it repaired should they wish, which is what I'd do if I were buying and I feel its my moral duty to be honest about this.
That said if anyone here is a kind and helpful thief and wants to break in to my house tonight and take the lot I could claim on my insurance - pm me please!

The problem with fungus is that it spreads, I would in the first instance seperate out all the gear that you are going to get rid of into two piles ("suspected fungus" and "no fungus"). Do the same with the gear that you are keeping (ie seperate your new gear (the stuff you bought today) from anything that is "suspected fungus"). Then I would carefully inspect what you have, use a loupe if you have one or a magnifying glass and a bright light, fungus should be obvious. If there is anything that you are going to keep that has fungus, then I would get it sorted by Fujifilm before mixing with your new shiny kit - otherwise no matter how careful you are you will end up infecting your new gear.

You can use UV light to kill fungus (do a google search), and it maybe this is a good route for stuff that you want to keep. The fungus when killed will turn to dust, so you will have dust inside the lens, but over time they all get this, its just how much dust!

Again, very many thanks for your help. I'll look into uv light in a mo, as soon as I've separated my gear!

There is now a thread in the classifieds for those of you who might feel like treating yourselves and making what should have been an exciting day for me a little less gloomy.
I may go open the new gear boxes that are still sitting in a bag untouched later, but a beer may be needed first..

There are some bargains to be had there for sure!

Wow, that's a bummer Steve.

Fungus and its spores are everywhere but it needs high humidity (UK is such a place, not just Cornwall), food (any organic material) and air. Most lenses are not air tight so spores and air /humidity have easy access.
The real thing is the fungus issue is used by a dealer to downgrade a trade-in price, and frequently you can bet that the dealer wont reflect that in the resale price of the item when selling on.
Unless the fungus is horrendous then it doesnt degrade the image in a noticeable way.
I would be interested to know if modern lens coatings are more/less resistant to fungal attachment and attack than their earlier predecessors.

Do those costs for sure include stripping down to treat for fungus? If so they’re really good prices.

Fuji repair costs have always been generous to the customer, these costs should involvce everything that would return your lens to the state that Fuji would put it in the Refurbished store.

They repaired a camera for me that was just in warranty, but that I had dropped free of charge (I did tell them and was prepared to pay the £180 cost!), they ended up replacing the main board+sensor plus top board - can't fault them, excellent service.

Yeah. They replaced a focus motor in an out of warranty GF63. Again no charge. Great service.

Well now I'm back home I have just put my Fuji kit as a bundle up for sale, I will not get a chance to use them anymore so it can go to a new home.
So sorry to hear this Dave. Wishing you well mate.

Random question - what colour is the focus box on the X-T5 and is it possible to change the colour of it. my Nikon Z7ii is green/red and it’s a bit of a problem in woodland and landscape for me.

This rose signifies a lot to me. After I lost my sister, it bloomed on the week of her Birthday. This year I was upset as it bloomed much earlier, and all the rain & wind last month tore the flowers to shreds. However, this week, this happened.... Just like my sister, it refused to give in and came back again, and today, on her Birthday, we have pink roses.

XT5 has same colours as Z7.

Just back from a week in Pembrokeshire. Took a fair number of photos with a few different cameras (weather was a tad inclement so the X-S10 didn't make it out as much as I'd have liked). I'd just figured out how to auto-bracket exposure before I went , so here's a couple of shots that used that technique. The first is an HDR merge from a bracketed set. I know and appreciate that pushed HDR is not by a long way everyone's cup of tea, but I sort of quote like it (sorry) :exit:

X-H2s question, if I may....

I want Slot 2 (SD) to be the default on playback so that I can easily cull images.

However, despite using both 'Back Up' and 'Separate' in the Data Settings, once a shot has been taken the playback reverts to Slot 1 (CFe)
each and every time. Which I then have to reset. Both cards are recording Jpeg.

That may sound easy but when you are shooting in excess of 3k images a day and culling roughly 33% of them, two button presses for each action makes a massive difference.

Many thanks if you have any solutions! :)

Haven't used any XH line but is it not the same as the XT cameras where you can long press the playback button which flashes a message saying swapped to slot 1/2?

Take fewer shots
Have less culling to do.

One option is to mark the images you want to keep then do an Erase All will delete all images that are not protected.

Doesn’t work I’m afraid.
It works on my X-H2 - press the playback button, wait a second then press and hold it will come up on screen that it has changed to card 2. Message disappears after a couple of seconds, but the camera stays in card 2 and you can delete all you want until you press and hold the playback button once more to change back to card 1
