The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

X-T3 + XF33mm f1.4 today, think taking these shots today might have given me the nudge to start my jazz again. In the Pavilion gardens just chilling out, plus as I say just a few.

Excellent Dave. Great that you play the tenor sax it seems, I adore Jazz.
If you get a chance check out the fabulous tenor sax talents of Scott Hamilton, his best album called: Radio City.

Utterly sublime . . . !

Cheers;
Pete

Took the Takumar 55mm out with me when walking the pooch lastnight. Shame I missed the focus a little, he was originally looking at me and as soon as I focused he turned his head. On the plus side, I now have the go-ahead to buy a Sigma 56mm... :LOL:

Fuji jpgs really are something else!

I love back light, the softness of the dog, and the sharp grass spikes in front. Unusual but very effective. A happy happenstance.

Thank you Pete, I don't actually play but do like taking photos of them.

Anyone tried or maybe own the Viltrox 13mm f1.4 AF lens…?
(About 20mm width wise)

Would love to hear your thoughts/views please…..appreciated.

Cheers;
Peter
HI Peter, yes. I bought it out of sheer curiosity having read some very complimentary reviews and must admit that it has altered my views on so called budget lenses.

First impression on unboxing was of a very well made lens whose construction quality, heft and standard of finish was a fag-paper off any of my non-red badged FujiFilm lenses. They have even added a red C badge to it which, with a proper click aperture ring, a metal mount with a USB C port to download firmware updates, a very substantial metal hood which fits with precision and very well engraved and white filled markings, adds an air of quality which belies the price.

Optically it is very sharp in the centre but it does get slightly softer in the corners. It is susceptible to flare though so care is needed when shooting into or close to the sun, paradoxically it is better in the centre than it is at the edges. It is very good in low light at F1.4. The AF motor is very fast and very quiet and is markedly better than my old and venerable 14mm. I haven’t used it for Astro photography yet but by all accounts it is excellent with its focal length and F1.4 aperture.

The only downsides I can think of is the lack of WR if that is important to you and a less than FujiFilm ‘wow‘ colour rendition. But I remind myself that this is a lens that is 1/2 (or more) the price of an OEM lens and frankly I do not know how Viltrox do such an accomplished bit of kit for the price.

I have just bought the 56mm Viltrox and it, like it’s 13mm sibling, is a fantastic lens and even more when I look at the £230 it cost me!

I’ve heard really good things about this lens. What I don’t get is why the weather sealing gasket is absent when it’s including on other mounts. This omission isn’t ideal to say the least.

I don't think that it is on any of the other Viltrox lenses Jonathan and whilst I would have preferred it, many of my FujiFilm lenses are not weather resistant either. Hand on heart I have never experienced any problems over the years but I do take care and use(d) them sensibly in the wet and in the desert.

But it is a really lovely little lens.

I’m sure I read the Z mount version had the rear rubber gasket. Maybe I dreamed it.

I feel much more comfortable knowing the lens has weather resistance to some extent.

I've had my eye on one for ages mate and as I will mostly use the Fuji X now it had to be a mini X-H1, not fussed it's only one card slot so have stuck a 64GB Sandisk in.
Excellent choice, the X-S10 is a cracker! If you are into brackets, the Smallrig one is superb and its extra depth provides a super little finger rest.

I removed the L bracket end as it does restrict the screen articulation but the bracket itself is beautifully made and does protect the bottom plate.

Still waiting for the battery to charge so need to get some spares, I always use my PD wrist strap as that does me and once I test it out then I have to sort out the cameras I don't use at all but that is for another day.

I had the 56mm, but found it to be on the soft side, so changed to the new Sigma 56 when that came out. A world of difference, and still a lot cheaper than Fuji's own. Having said that, for the money, the Viltrox does offer a very acceptable alternative to the other two, but I have to say the difference between it and the Sigma is so large that the extra cost of the Sigma makes it worthwhile, imo.

I've got a Sigma on it's way to me as we speak. Can't wait!
