The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Always love the colours you produce from these early Fujifilm cameras not sure how you get them from RAF or jpeg files?
But the smooth tones and graduations are something else.

I have an X-E2s more or less permanently mated to an XF 27mm (Mark 1). It's a nice pocketable combination but tbh I don't use it that much in comparison with my X-Pro2 and assorted primes and zooms.

Had a look at MPB and an X100F and the possibility of trading-in the above combination. The cost of "trading up" is £359.

What am I gaining if I trade? And is the cost worthwhile?

Thoughts?

Seems a pretty poor deal given the price of the 27mm alone at present tbh. The X100F is great but they're screwing you on your trade-in.

FWIW, I'm looking at going the other way to an extent and moving on my X100F and X-T2 to simplify to an X-Pro2 only.

Annoyingly I've lost the lens hood (including lens coat) from my 100-400 today. It was somewhere in the middle of nowhere on the moors tracking down mountain hairs. We did well over 10 miles so I have absolutely no chance of retracing my steps to find it.

So assuming a genuine Fuji replacement will be silly money? are there any worthwhile 3rd party options

UPDATE - the genuine ones are only £20 on the Fuji shop, so I'll go with the real thing!

Cheers
Chris

Oh come on Donna, you've let the side down, shouldn't that cross on the mast be dead centre of the moon? I mean, really?... :ROFLMAO:
I know it is bugging me sooooo much, why I didn't move just slightly to the left! All in hindsight aye ;)

Getting a bit older, and finding my Canon 5D Mk3 too cumbersome I traded it in for an XT-30. But having it for 2 years now I've decided I went too small, I'm a small guy with small hands and I thought the XT-30 would be a good fit. I find it too fiddly, the controls are not instinctive, I have to look for the correct button / dial to change, my fingers don't naturally fall on them.

I went into London Camera Exchange in Manchester and tried an XT-3 for size and it feels much better. I said to the sales guy I might go for the XT-4, purely because it's a newer model. He said the major difference between the two models is video capabilities and IBIS, he said if you're purely a stills guys, which I am, and think you can live without IBIS, which I could, an XT-3 would be much more cost effective. I'm thinking he's giving good advice.

Any and all further thoughts / advice would be much appreciated.

Pete.

I would also take an X-T3 over an X-T4.

I think the salesman is giving good advice.

I have an X-T4 and an X-T3 as a second body. I don't do video either. I can assure you that the X-T3 equals the X-T4 in almost every respect. I find the X-T4's IBIS is useful for non OIS lenses so my 16-55 is basically glued to it but otherwise there's little difference. Of course the X-T4 has the fully articulating screen which seems like Marmite to some people. I don't mind it but I prefer the flip screen on the X-T3. I prefer the shutter button on X-T3 as it's action is a little more positive but the X-T4 shutter seems quieter (more like the X-H1).

Unless you use non-OIS lenses and would welcome the benefit of IBIS, I'd save some cash and go with the X-T3.

PS. If you go for the X-T3 make sure it has the latest firmware installed (it's easy to upgrade yourself if not) as it will bring the autofocus system up to the same spec as the X-T4.

100% agree. Nothing wrong with the X-T3 at all!

All good advice. But don’t overlook the X-S10. Nice size with good grip. Dials might be more DSLR like. Smashing camera and IBIS should you need it.

Showing my total ignorance at Fujis latest models, this is more like a mini X-H1?

I must admit I’m impressed with the XS10
I handled one the other day a far cleaner top plate if dials and settings are a issue for you ?
Ironically he sold his XT3 so he could pair it up with the XT4 that he has.

I tried an X-S10 when I last visited the Fuji shop in London and must admit I liked it so much that I very nearly bought it. I'm after something a bit smaller & lighter than my X-H1 (with interchangeable lenses) in the APS-C sensor size for my street photography, and at the moment the X-S10 seems to push all the right buttons.

I shall be in central London again very soon so I might just high tail it to the Fuji shop and buy one.

I was in two minds over the X-S10 but bought one as a more back friendly alternative to the X-H1/X-T4 and 100-400mm combo. Add a 70-300mm and a teleconverter and wow what a great bit of kit and so much lighter.

I don't mind the PASM dial as I am used to it on the Sony RX10 iv and the size and ergonomics are excellent and intuitive. The grip, together with its rather good IBIS lends itself to one handed use (even with a 70-300mm fitted).

It is a delightful camera, same IQ as the X-T4 and the lack of 'weather resistance' is saved in the 'used non-WR Fuji's for years without any problems' file. As for street use it came bundled with the XC15-45mm lens and, having had one or two in the past which were a tad soft, this one is sharp......and very light.

I don't need to use it with long lenses etc of which I already have in the XF variety. I would use it solely for my street photography with my 10-24mm & 18-55mm which is all I need for that sort of snapping. I too have a "Sony RX10iv" & "RX100vi" which are extremely good units for pretty much all the photography I do. They are also one reason why I haven't purchased an X-S10 as yet.

Which Fujifilm camera for smooth camera-to-iPhone transfer?

The X100T I have works flawlessly with the Fuljifilm PC Autosave desktop app (using an old iMac on the wifi network in the office). Press the wifi button on the camera, confirm the transfer and new photos are loaded into a new folder in my Dropbox, for all other devices to see. It's not quick, but it is pretty dependable. Love that.

Now, I'd quite like something to use when I am out and about, and for that I want to transfer new images to my iPhone (an XS Max, not super recent, but modern enough to be quick). For Spring, I'll grab a Fujifilm MILC and it would be handy to know which have firmware/NFC/etc to make this easier. Or perhaps there are third-party apps.

Any advice?

(Hate the idea of going back to using the SD card reader - that's Plan Z!)

I have, for some time now, wondered about acquiring a third body for doing more discreet street work. I have an X-T3 and an X-H1, but was thinking of something smaller just for street. At 6'4" I stand out enough without having one of those bodies in front of my face.
Today a light went on. Both the bodies I have, have vertical grips as my hands are fairly large and the grip makes handling far easier. So, I tried taking the grip off the X-T3 and adding a 27mm pancake lens - Hey presto! No need to fork out for a smaller, more discreet body - I had one all along! None of the bodies I had in mind will be any more discreet than this combo.
Now, new 'problem' - what do I buy with the money I was going to use on a new body...hmmm...
