AF is set to focus in both AF-S & AF-C
I was shooting in AF-S generally, with Eye Detect on most of the time

Interestingly it seems my hit rate improved through the shoot (still editing). Perhaps I had forgotten how to stand still while shooting?
I guess I need to do some test shots using the 35 (and 50 as a reference) this weekend.

I think you need to decide if you want an X100 series camera or an ILC, IMO an X-E3+23mm F2 does not an X100F make.

I have owned or still own X100, X100F, X-E2, X-T1,X-T2, X-H1, XF23mm F.14 and XF27mm, and my wife has X-T20 +XF23mm F2. The camera I'm most likely to pickup to take out the house ifs the X100F, when I owned the XF27mm I just didn't get on with it (no aperture ring and funny in-between focal length)

The X100F with its leaf shutter is virtually silent, besides the OVF/EVF switch it has an inbuilt ND filter, is very compact, still has a D-Pad (which the X-E3 doesn't) and is much more customisable. It also has digital zoom options, which although they only give an interpolated JPG are surprisingly good. If you are short of focal lengths and must have 50mm FF equivalent you can buy the TCL adapter - loads available s/h and if you want wider you can get the WCL.

Yes the lens is soft wideopen close up, but that can give charm and character in the right circumstances.

Couldn't agree more with this. I've used neither my X100F or my X-T2 of late and despite considering selling the former, I just can't do it.
 
Another obsession of mine - but fortunately, I've come out of this one and have culled my watches to a point where I have few left. I've enjoyed it immensely but have come around to the belief that material things just don't matter - and that belief started before Covid 19. This is my daily wearer:-

A passion of mine too, Andrew. I've gone the other way though and bought a dozen new pieces since lockdown begun.

Oh we're slowly getting members, it just seems it's been a bit quiet for a week or so. I have to hold my hand up and say that I haven't been out with the camera at all this week myself, so I'm just as bad...

Tonight was just a brief tester for portraits using the Viltrox 85mm on the X-H1, I think we did ok considering the light was a bit crap

Well don`t forget "New Toy Syndrome" .... I can understand FF, but tbh I don`t miss it at all. If anything the high iso (and I don`t often go that highanyway), but other than that.

Imo I can't see the point of not keeping the V to use. Then for you, you have the best of both worlds :)
