After being re-united with one of my old favs, the 35 1.4, I had my usual peek about for articles on the lens. Came across this one and I found it inspiring. Because here I am, having received the lens, already looking about for something to go along with - when I've barely taken a handful of photos with it, just to test and get familiar with it again. I really need to just get shooting again!

7 years of [mostly] only using the 35 for travel, just shows how versatile a one lens set up can be - also that it can take a fair amount of punishment, good read and some cool images:

Been thinking about getting this lens, but at the moment I`m going to see how much I use the X100V and if it`s a lot then I will get this lens and have a clear out of some of mine.

PS: A great review too.

I've tried the F2 version, and also the 50mm, trying to scratch that itch of the standard prime, but the 35 1.4 definitely has something about it that draws you back. I know many exaggerate this, and say it gives a 'magical' feel to images, or others say it produces very film-like images - and this is probably more the case. It does have nicer contrast, and seems to add a tad more 'depth' to images than say the 35 F2 [IMO at least] - and though it is a little slower and it does make a little noise, something just makes it more fun to use. Trying it on the H1 I would say it is certainly faster than it was on my old T1, and it's not as noisey as I remember either. It came pre-FW updated too so I didnt have to fiddle about with all that

There's an X-H1 with grip in classified going for a steal for anyone interested - would grab it myself if I had the funds spare

The early Fujifilm lenses have a different colour rendition, and maybe that contributes to the 'film-like' feel.

Even the few testers I shot yesterday had me feeling 'yup, there's that old look I loved' - People say the newer lenses have a more 'clinical' look about the images, as in, almost too sharp, too clean. And I guess it's about the best way to describe it. After using the 35 and 16 1.4 and some of the newer primes in between, I know which I'd rather - if only the 35 had WR, it's been raining pretty much non stop here since I got it.

After having a quick look at my mates V I love it already, and the size is just lovely. I have an idea of what to keep lens wise if I get the 35mm f1.4, then it`s what camera`s to keep with the V

This is why I dislike the Samyang lenses - even though I still have the 12mm - the colours in the files are just not Fuji colours. I'm surprised though that the Zeiss 32mm doesn't get more love, as not only is it beautifully built, but the colour rendition makes you fall in love with every shot!!

Just for interest, the metal hood for the 60mm f2.4 fits on the 35 f1.4 and works amazingly well. Yes, it looks a bit longer with it on, but it's better than that short "square" unit that comes with it.

Question for X-T2 owners: if my reading of the online manual is right, you can press the front dial and then choose to use it to adjust EV compensation (instead of having to use the stiffer dedicated EV dial). Then you've still got the shutter speed dial and lens' aperture ring both working as normal?

Is that right - no quirky 'gotchas' lurking?

Yes!! and it gives you +/-5EV rather than +/-3EV (dial)

Excellent - thanks for the info. I'm still getting my head around the controls on the X-T1, and can see that the configurability only goes so far. The X-T2 was a pretty big upgrade on spec and usability, it seems.

 You mean you do have one on order! :D lol Fuji whore! :p

I really did think about getting both the V and T4, but after all the reviews on the T4 I thought it`s not really a great upgrade from the 3 but as I was missing the X100F so much it had to be the black beauty V :D
