The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Depends on the image circle cast by the lens, if its tight then you won't get as many stops of IBIS, bigger image circle allows for more stops of IBIS

I wonder which lenses they are - makes sense I guess, I was thinking usually you get better performance for IBIS when combined with lens OIS.

How did you get so close with a 56mm,great shot that.

I actually didn't get that close to the Robin. I'm just stunned at the quality of the optics on the 56mm. Blown away with the colour rendition and sharpness. The bokeh is just the most buttery smooth I've seen. Absolutely love my X-H1 paired with this lens. Only thing making me hold onto my Nikon is the dynamic range when shooting into the light - which is superior on the Full Frame body.

Nothing blows me away about it bar the fact it'll apparently have better IBIS than the H1 and a nicer shutter than the T3. I'm not wowed by superior AF claims as the way I shoot AF speed is down the list a bit. I would wait to see video reviews before taking any of that too seriously though, they are hardly going to say it's on par with current models, seems there could be some exaggerating at play here. For one, as someone points out in the comments, the 6.5 stops with 18 lenses? There's only 11 OIS lenses, so how does that work? How can an IBIS system work better with some non OIS lenses over others?
I seem to remember when the XH-1 was announced there was a chart giving the number of stops IBIS gave each Fuji lens and if I remember correctly some of the non OIS lenses had more stops of stabilisation with IBIS than the non-OIS ones.

I was more blown away with the photo of the cat on your Flickr, sooo sharp and at F/2.8 !!! Amazing

I agree - overall sharpness was quite remarkable at f2.8 and filling the frame as well

how you getting on with the pro 3, Trev?

Hi Jon

Early days. Quite like the handling. Happy with hidden screen. AF seems fast enough. I’ve just a couple primes. 16&23 f1.4. 56 coming. They all feel pretty well balanced to me.
Still got the S**y

A little close to the edge of the frame, but another example of the sharpness achievable with the lens and the great compression of the background

Cracking image, now all you need to get is the XF90mm f2 and XF16mm f1.4 and you then have Fuji`s best glass IMO.

Well, I got the little XC 15-45mm lens as a starter lens for the X-T1 body I bought from a fellow TPer. It was £100 and I had a CEX voucher, so super cheap. But ... it's not at all bad. Far better than the Sony 16-50 I used with the A6500. And even with its limited OIS spec, I got a couple of decent 1-second handheld night shots.

Its OKness complicates my choice of 'decent' zoom lens though. From the tests at Lenstip, the significant step up is the XF16-50/2.8. But that doesn't have OIS. The XF16-80 does have OIS, but doesn't test very well (AFAICS). The 18-135 was my favourite general lens for the Sony, but there aren't so many reviews of that yet.

The 18-135 is a great walk about lens. OK, ultimately not as sharp as the 18-55 but I don't see any difference in the real world in A3+ prints. Immeasurably better at 56mm and longer too!!! Yes, there are better alternatives but as for value for money and versatility, it's hard to beat.

Anyone tried macro tubes, either genuine Fuji or JJC ones, any issues?

Once you replace the original optics in them with new ones, they all work as well as each other... More seriously, as long as they fit well and don't bind (IIRC some of the cheaper options are a little tight), they'll do the same job.

Continuous focussing is useless, I will be using this for landscape / static shots.

I found that it works well enough, it just looks weird as it appears to be hunting. Having said that, I use mine as the wide angle carrier (10-24) and X-Ts for longer lenses.

After getting a loan of the 90mm, I think it might just be too long for me - I may try the 16mm to see how I get on with it. I was contemplating the 16-55mm f2.8 as a walk around lens

Welcome back, Andrea. Missed you this year.

I had the 16-55 F2.8 when I had my X-T2 and I sold it after a fairly short period of time. I couldn’t warm to it, got a lot of soft shots. I re-bought it when I bought my X-H1, it was a revelation. It’s a big combo in the Fuji x world, but in my opinion it’s a hard one to beat.

Some would say the XF16-55mm is far to heavy as an everyday walk around lens, but I don`t think it would be
I had it for quite a while and really did like it, on the X-H1 it was a great combo.

I wonder how it will feel compared to the the Nikon 16-80mm f2.8 - 4 or the very sharp Nikon 17-55mm f2.8 on the D500. I have to say the responsiveness of the shutter button is great on the X-H1. I feel like I have a better ability to be able to grab shots - and feels a lot more refined without that big shutter clack

Can't be as heavy as my current walk around lens - the Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 :-)

After finding the preset on the X-H1, and after seeing some great examples on this thread I've been more interested in B&W. I like how sometimes a photo can work much better in B&W - particularly when there are harsh highlights. I could never achieve the look I was going for simply by converting and playing with the colour sliders.

That’s one of the beautiful things about Fuji. There’s so much in camera adjustment you can make.
The adjustments I made are able to be made converting from RAW in camera.
If you’re not familiar give it a go..preview a picture and press the menu button. Go from there.

Thanks, I will give that a go!! I do like the thought of being more experimental with my photos

This is my go to for walkabout particularly in poor weather, no way too heavy.

Nicely “brassed” looks well, I wish my OCDness would let me give my cameras that well worn look. I have a meltdown if I get the slightest scratch lol
