The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

My Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 lens arrived this afternoon (Saturday), presently working 12 hour nightshifts so won't get a chance to shoot with it for a day or two. Lovely piece of hefty glass though.
I've a X-T2 body arriving on Monday, and last night I ordered a used/minty condition X-Pro1 body from Camera Jungle.

Looking forward to shooting with them all next week...….exciting Fooji times ahead.

Indeed. I’m still learning this and enjoying playing. At present I’m trying to justify a gimbal. 4 pints in so far, I see a purchase coming on later ;)
Crane 3 gimbal ordered....

Pricey bit of kit just for steadiness! But if you are really looking to get into video I bet it's amazing, should allow you get some really cinematic footage :)
Well i have just negotiated a significant pa rise (over £10K / year), and this is my treat to myself. I love my stills stuff, but am finding that I am also being moved towards some proper video stuff now, especially as my daughter has now began attending the local Pauline Quirke Academy for performing arts,I feel I can help out with some video at home with her (my attempt at justifying the cost ;) )

Nice one, congrat's on the pay rise and it's cool to get into the video side and have a purpose also. I have tried here and there to get into video, but I find the post production side of it a bit stressful :D I can do it, to an extent, but it is definitely harder on the soul than simply editing 'stills'. You need a lot more patience and stamina.

I ordered a viltrox ef-ex1 off Amazon today as I'd like to use some of my Canon EF/ef-s lenses on my Fuji X-T10.
Will start with 50 1.8, 85 1.8, 60mm 2.8 ef-s macro and then my 100 2.8 macro.
Quite fancy the 50 (not STM though) as it's light and an excellent lens for the money. Not looking to shoot sport or anything that requires super fast af so think it should fit in well with the 2 xc lenses I have, especially as it's F1.8 both the 100 and the 85 are heavy old lumps, but the ef-s 60 might be nice as it's quite compact. Don't anticipate putting any of the heavy zooms on it.
Maybe if they don't work too well I can persuade myself to buy a later body with better af :-)

Went out today and spent six hours covering the Final Say march in London. A couple of observations On the T3. The grip. I love it! Completely changes the experience. 6 hours with it in my hand 90% of the time, and it was so comfortable. Dare I say XH1-esque? Battery life. I made a schoolboy error and left 4 batteries indoors and just took the body with one Expro white. I honestly can’t believe it lasted all day! Has there been a firmware update that has changed the way the T3 battery performs? I took around 500 shots (Admittedly I practiced battery conservation once I realised I had left the sores on my desk!) I also miss ibis a lot in really dark situations. (Although I’m pretty sure some of that is user error) but overall, I loved the experience.

Anyway, here’s a couple of images from today.

Great result. Glad you are enjoying it. I can't use my xt3 without the hand grip

I had the EF-M1 Viltrox for M43, used it on a Panasonic G80 and it worked pretty well for the few lenses I was using [Canon 55-250 STM, 50mm 1.8 STM and 85mm 1.8 USM] - but, I have heard the version for Fuji isn't quite as good. There has been FW updates since, so I'd suggest you update it before even trying it, and let us know how you get on. I'd still be interested in this, I had a fringer pro which is an excellent AF adaper for Fuji using Canon lenses, but it's expensive. The Viltrox can be had for less than 1/2 the price so it would be sweet if it worked well.

I just took this (as the kids have had me up since 5.30) Sitting at my desk in pitch black into the boys room. SOOC FUJIFILM X-T310/1250s ƒ/1.8 ISO5000 85mm
It renders well! If you view the original at full res, you'll see it more clearly. Can't wait to try this in good light

So who's got a 16-80?
I got one from Amazon last week. It was soft in the corners pretty much all the way through the zoom range @f4 got better stopped down. It’s quite plasticky feeling and it’s made in the Philippines. I think it’s overpriced. The slightly extended range to 80mm is nice. But I decided to return it and stick with my 16-55 f2.8. I may buy it again if it comes down in price. To be honest the quality was on a par with my 18-135 and not significantly smaller.

Many X-E3 shooters here..? Would love to hear your thoughts and experiences shooting this X-E3 body please...(?) Any advice greatly appreciated.

I'm kinda looking at a X-T2 body, but the X-E3 has caught my eye at the minute. I've a X-E1 body arriving tomorrow to start me off again on my Fuji X journeys....

Cheers;
Peter
I’ve the X-E3 , to be honest I’ve really only used it on weekends away. It’s a great little camera. Although I’ve decided to trim my kit down I’ve so much Fuji gear I can never decide what to use. I’ll probably be posting the x-e3 and x-e2 and a few lenses in the classifieds soon.

One more, indoors FUJIFILM X-T3 10/1250s ƒ/1.8 ISO 640 85mm

Not got round to mapping the front wheel for aperture yet, but I'm quietly impressed. Suffered from some camera shake on a couple of shots, need to get used to the balance of body vs lens I think. Again, better viewed full size

Loving the colours in this image Nick.

Read a few reviews that suggested it was "better" with fixed aperture lenses, which is what I want it for, specifically the macro lenses as native lenses are quite expensive, so if it works on them I'll be happy enough. If it works on the 50 and 85 that will be a bonus. I have a 24/70 and a 70/200 but they are huge lumps and I doubt they will give me anything that my 2 xc lenses don't already, plus the Fuji lenses are much more portable, at present my Fuji bag has both xc lenses in it and I can easily carry that, don't want to replicate my Canon back breaking bag :-)
If the viltrox works I will only mount the Canon lenses for specific projects not for everyday carry round.

Hopefully it works out well. Both the 50stm and 85 usm worked well for me adapted.

Thanks, the 50 is not STM but still light and small and faster than my Fuji 16-50. Will report back once I have had a go, although I'n not super critical as some seem to be e.g. I rarely see the halos or CA in photos that others seem to see.

It's not being critical when there's CA evident, it can be really irritating. Of course it can always be cleaned up in post but it still affects the image. It's not something I go out of my way to check, so when I notice it it's pretty obvious.

The main thing for an adapter like this is how good AF is though, as it doesn't affect IQ. Is it quick enough for you?, do the lenses behave well on it? Also how sturdy does it feel? any wobbles when it's mounted?

Well after another go at the Sony A7III I've decided to sell and come back to fuji. Great camera but ended up missing shots as couldn't find the right button or menu.

I was going to go for an xt2 as I only shoot stills and don't think the extra cost of the XT3 is worth it. Im going to get the 16-55 but can't decide between vthe T2 or the XH1 although I need to see one first and think it may work well with the 16-55, any thoughts?

The XH-1 and 16-55 are made for each other in my opinion. I loved that combo when I had it. The 16-55 is the only zoom I’d buy if I wasn’t shooting primes

I agree Nick, I found the 16-55 a bit unbalanced on my X-T1. When I got my X-H1 I realised that it and the 16-55 used together were a perfect combination. ChrisP

The 16-55 is a real nice lens, some complain that it's a bit hefty and it does get nick-named 'The Brick' but I think hat's because it feels a bit front heavy on the smaller bodies. Like others said, on the X-H1 it feels nicely balanced and of course, you get IBIS along with making the lens even better.

A quick question about macro extension tubes. I recently picked a set up off eBay. They were only a cheapo set, which to be fair is likely the issue, but before I consign them to the square file in the corner I thought I'd check with you guys if its an easily rectifiable issue. There are two problems, no.1 is that my 35 mm f2 WR simply won't attach although my other lenses will. no.2, with the lenses that will fit when attached to the camera the viewfinder blinks on and off which presumably is due to a dodgy connection between camera and tube. Camera is an XT3 and its set to release without lens attached which I would have assumed should nullify electrical issues but clearly not
Thanks in advance. James :)

Had a try at some woodland photography. I think it could be fun, if and when I get the hang of it. It's not easy..

Woodland Mist

I like that. Woodland shooting is really hard! When you've found some nice compositions I guess you need to keep going back to work out what's nice, what's not and then get the good light. I've never had a good woodland shot.

Postman delivered my X-Pro1 body this morning from Camera Jungle, described as Mint -, absolutely as new condition with original box with everything enclosed - wow.

My X-T2 body arrives this afternoon from the Fooji refurb store, I'm over the moon, fabulous!!
