The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

I went on a tour of the Frank Matcham built, Victorian-era Gaiety Theatre and Opera House in Douglas, Isle of Man yesterday. It has been painstakingly restored and this view is looking straight up at the rose window and sunburner in the ceiling.

X-T2 and 10-24 handheld at 1/10 sec.

Nice especially at such a low shutter speed. Well done.

Is anyone using the fuji raw processing software? I downloaded it this morning, and although it says it uses the camera to process, I quickly did one on my pc. Gotta be better than acr I would think.

It works ok but looks horrible on an iMac screen, maybe better on windows.

Are you happy connecting and using your camera as a computer. I connect my cameras as little as I can. which means almost never.
I have no problems using Acr.

No not really, but although it states to use it via the camera, it does seem to work as a desktop standalone. Bit fiddly, but I`ll give it a go. I`ve been using PS and ACR since PS2, so muscle (brain) needs a bit of a re-tune :)

I’m looking at moving to Fuji either X-T20 or X-E3, but I’m struggling to work out which one would be better for me.

A couple of things I’m trying to work out to help my decision are:
  1. What does the drive rotary on the X-T20 do? Change between single shot and continuous?
  2. Can you use back button focus, if so which button is it? If it is the AF-L button it probably looks better placed on the X-T20.

Just a simple Fujigraph taken at Dungeness Kent UK of an old Discarded Winch, possibly used for hauling fishing boats or catch up the beach from the sea.
I'm also working on a personal project called Things Left Behind and this will be one of the shots included.

X-T2, 10-24mm Lens, 1/300th @ F8, ISO-200, Monopod.

Thanks to everyone for the help with the lens choices and a thanks for the reminder about filters from Jelster. I have a large collection of Lee 100mm filters including stoppers, polarisers and hood. I'm hoping that with the addition of a couple of adapter rings, all my filters should work with the Fuji system. Has anyone experience with Fuji and the Lee 100mm filters?

Just catching up on these and other posts.

I have the Nikon D800 and still regard it as my 'main' camera. I bought the X-T2 more as a lighter and more compact travel option, although I did wonder if I might jump all the way once I got used to it. Hasn't happened - haven't even come close - in fact I'm eying up a D850 as my likely next purchase. Still won't be getting rid of the Fuji though. It's fantastic for what it is and I can fit it and my two lenses (10-24 and 16-55) plus my Manfrotto Befree into a carry-on bag and still have room for a toiletries bag and a change of clothes! I've borrowed a 55-200 on the two occasions that I thought that I might need a bit of reach - but find it hard to justify owning one myself. When weight/size are not an issue, my preference is still for the Nikon - apart from the very wide range of glass I own for it, I love its dynamic range and just have more confidence in its performance. I have various 100mm Lee filters and considered buying the Lee Seven system for the Fuji but the 100mm set-up works fine with a couple of adapters for the two fuji lenses. I have noticed serious vignetting when using the filters with the 16-55 - but to be fair the 10-24 is hardly off the camera. It's a fantastic lens and one that just suits my style of photography.

I'd love to pick up a minty/used D800E and use it alongside my Fooji system, at times I crave for more MP's to be honest. A GFX 50s would be the answer but a body along with a few lenses is the best part of 10k - yikes

The Fuji XT-3 has landed folks!!
Very interesting :D :o

Will be interested to see how much new sensor improves dynamic range (my main point of interest)

Good Price as well (especially given some recent releases from other manufacturers) £1349 Body Only and £1699 Body + 18-55. Wonder how much of that is aggressive pricing by Fuji, or is manufacturing in China (as opposed to Japan) really that much cheaper.

It looks good and not too much of a price hike over the X-T2!

Unfortunately the X-T2 is already a bit of a stretch for me and I need something in my hands before next weekend. So the decision for me, and that I’m hoping some of you can help me with is X-T2 vs X-T20.

The camera will have 2 main roles:
  • Family/travel/general stuff with the 18-55 fitted, which I think both would handle well. I think the X-T2 would win on ergonomics, but lacks the auto switch, that may make the X-T20 easier for my wife to use.
  • In my mountain biking rucksack as a lightweight action/landscape camera, with the 23f2 lens fitted. The smaller X-T20 makes sense for this role, until I think of the practicality of riding rough terrain in all weathers. I will be falling off and the camera will be knocked around. As the 23mm lens is weather sealed it makes sense to me to fit it to a weather sealed body. Ability to use with gloves is also a factor.
With the current deals it looks like the X-T2 is £200 more expensive than the X-T20, which should be affordable. There’s also the outside option of an X-A3, as there are good deals on it as a 2 lens kit, but I’m not sure the ergonomics will cut it.

Can anyone offer any insight that may help my decision, especially with regards to the robustness of the X-T20?

That has to be the most stupid comment I’ve ever seen on here. You clearly have zero understanding of business practices let alone common sense.

Excuse me?

I probably have more business knowledge and common sense in my little finger than you so I will ignore your comment.

In terms of business practices, I’d love you to expand on how you think it would damage them. Then I’ll counter you...

People that come on here with comments like yours make my blood boil.

I don't want to turn this into a Sony thread but don't they have great lenses?

They have great ff lenses but you can easily use them on there crop bodies

They absolutely do have great lenses, for FF. You don’t really want to buy APS-C to then stick massive FF lenses on it. That’s what puts me of the A6500, probably the only thing.

But yeah, Fuji make great lenses.

Won't buy if they have.

Looks very nice indeed.
Ditto. Good spec, good price (don't think the China manufacture is a bad thing any more) - but the IBIS finally swung me to the X-H1 and I'm smitten.
