What lens line up is the way forward now please on the XT 2? I have a eye on a used one and considering getting one and keeping my Nikon in the mean time too

Without wishing to sound unhelpful, it really does depend what you shoot. But there are plenty of beauties in the range.

My little colllection all have a purpose:

Samyang 12mm f/2 - Astro with the odd wide angle landscape
Fuji 18mm f/2 - Pancake lens for travelling light
Fuji 23mm f/1.4 - The kids, round the house, low light, just love this lens so any excuse
Fuji 16-55 - General landscape stuff
Fuji 50-140 - Landscapes, motorsport, portraits, kids outside

I quite fancy a 56mm 1.2 but I don't need one. Also fancy a 60mm macro for the odd occasion I fancy doing some close ups but they can wait.

@rookies Have to agree with Graham here, that’s a cracking all round lens lineup for the Fuji bodies, the 16-55 and 50-140 are so good (and relatively small/lightweight considering their build, sharpness and speed), the 23mm f1.4 was always my favourite general Fuji prime but wide I’d potentially go for a 16mm f1.4 as its stunning, but you can’t really go wrong, lot of options.

I’ve been away in Amsterdam this weekend and just found carrying my camera generally to be a pain in the arse, think I might pickup a Fuji X100F or X-Pro 2 and a prime for my Rome trip next month when I need to travel lighter, I did meet a guy up on the hotel roof taking shots with a GFX50s, very jealous!

Thats a nice lineup, funny though I have a few lenses to cover most situations and with the 12mm aside I don't have a single one of those - just goes to show that even on a system criticised for having too few lenses that theres easily enough variety.

If you’re anything like me, having too many lenses confuses the life out of me. I can never decide which to bring, if I bring my 23 f2 I wish I’d brought something wider or longer. If I bring a zoom , I wish I’d brought primes. I generally take the easy option and bring my 18-135 and 10-24. The 18-135 is a very versatile travel lens but doesn’t bring out the best in the 24mpix sensor. My 50mm F2 is a glorious lens but it’s a FL I’m not a big fan of for travel or day to day use.
On my last trip to Barcelona I only brought my X-pro 2 and the 18mm f2. It’s a much maligned little lens, but I find the iq is great especially from f4 upwards.

Totally agree Jim, usually put the 18-55 on and take the 14mm too, not really sure why I even keep the others, but you never know when one might be needed

Bear in mind I like to shoot wildlife (although I'm not that good at it!)

16mm f1.4 - Landscapes, cityscapes, (and I find it extremely good at taking images in coffee shops - you know, the Costa style stuff)
35mm f1.4 - Portraits, general low light stuff, some internal stuff
10-24mm f4 - Great for landscapes, it's a fantastic all round lens if you like a wider POV
60mm f2 - I bought this for macro, but it comes in handy as a portrait lens. I may move it on as I now have it's big brother, but it has some special bokeh....
80mm f2.8 - Macro & portraits. I had my heart set on the 50-140 but so glad I got this instead. It's so sharp...
100-400 - For my wildlife stuff, combined with the 1.4TC, it's taken the place of my 7D2 & Sigma 150-600 (which is about twice the weight).

I really fancy the 23 f1.4, which I will pick up later.

When I go out shooting wildlife, I have one T2 with the 100-400 on a Rapid Strap, and the other, with the 80mm in my bag. That way if I see something small (insect etc) or interesting plants, I can get the macro out without having to change lenses.

Do you prefer zooms or primes? Are you a shallow DoF shooter? Do you need wide apertures?

If you're happy with relatively slow zooms, the 10-24, 18-135, 100-400 Fuji line up covers pretty much all options, especially if you lob a 1.4x converter into the mix (only fits behind the 100-400 I this list.)

@rookies If you fancy a T2 for when the Nikon is too big. Just get the 18-55. It’s a terrific lens. Makes a versatile walkabout setup.

met up with some old friends on Friday for a beer at Monument. got up there (600 odd steps) probably i little too early to catch the best light. unfortunately the 23mm f1.4 was too big to get through the wire safety fencing - hence the square crop. i did notice another guy there with an x-t2 and the 18-55 did fit through the fencing.

Andrew

I think you really need to address why you want an X-T2 (especially as you tried one a year or so back and didn't get on with it)

Is it because you want something smaller to carry around?, in which case your lens choice should be equally small and light, otherwise you'll reach for the D500 each time

Is it because you like some of the pictures in this thread?, your D500 is quite capable of producing similar pictures, more so because you have one of the sharpest zoom lenses available in the Sigma 18-35 F1.8

Is it because you enjoy the banter in this thread?, you have complained in the past that the D500 thread is quiet, maybe it would be helped if you posted some images to generate dialog? either in the D500 thread or in the critique threads

Your current kit is more than capable of producing outstanding images, so why are you considering a Fuji?????

David,

It more of a 2nd system camera for time being.. There are sometime I like to take a camera out with me but don't want to take the big Dslr with me.. Yes I agree what I have now is a very good kit hence i have not moved away from it I have kept it a good while now as you will know...

Ive had a Xt1 before yes I like the camera but not the images that came from it but the Xt2 has address this so it could be a camera that would suit me for the light days..

Did you not try an X-T2 as well (and sent it back)??

If you want a light system then I would suggest any of X-T2/X-T20/X-E3 and the 18-55 zoom. Lightest smallest option with the same sensor would be the X-E3 and new 15-45 pancake zoom, and even the X-T20 with ths pancake zoom would make a neat compact offering.

I would also consider the X100F, if you think you could live with the fixed focal length.

Buy any more lenses, or bigger ones, and you'll reach for the D500 IMHO

Nope never had a X-T2 one the X-T1...

But the lens are smaller on the fuji.. Then there there good Live View taking images etc on it too..

As I say it be a take out camera really but if I grow to love it I could always add a few lens then rid of the big stuff..

What is it that has changed in the x-t2 from the x-t1 that makes you prefer the images?

Try an X100F. Same sensor as the X-T2. Fixed lens so you don’t have to agonise on which to take with you. The fixed lens also helps you to consider composition more.

Ok guys enough from me otherwise we end up like before. Subject closed

Andrew, it's sad that you take your bat and ball home, I think everyone who has posted has posted with best of intentions, if you don't honestly look at the reasons that you might want a camera system, then you will almost certainly end up with the wrong one. Just about everyone on this forum is guilty of doing that at some point in their camera history (and I'm sure you can relate to this!), only by asking questions can we help, unless I find that crystal ball I've got tucked away somewhere :D

Nice. I think I was at ground level while you were up there, both of us shooting the shard. Is there anywhere usable to rest a lens for long exposure shots and still get it through the fence?

TBH I can’t remember. It was absolutely packed up there. Quite uncomfortable. I guess being half term there were more tourists than usual. But there isn’t much room and if did manage to get it stabilised it’s likely someone would bump you as they try to squeeze past.

For me it looks like this:

XF18-55 - Landscapes, cityscapes, (and I find it extremely good at taking images in coffee shops - you know, the Costa style stuff)
XF18-55 - Portraits, general low light stuff, some internal stuff
XF18-55 - Great for landscapes, it's a fantastic all round lens if you like a wider POV
XF18-55 - Comes in handy as a portrait lens.

I'm taking the micky obviously, but its the only lens I own and it's a cracker.

(Thanks to @Jelster for the "inspiration" for this reply :) )

Nice! I like the composition. Would clone the vignette in the top right hand corner as it's a bit distracting but an easy fix.
