The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Anyone with the 90mm? Keen to get your thoughts on your experiences and what kind of things you're shooting.

I'm looking for something with a little more range to keep up with my son when he goes running off. I can't stretch to the 50-140 but the 90mm or 55-200 are doable. The 55 offers more range, but I'd prefer the 90mm for portrait stuff.

Thoughts?

The 90mm is a stunner:

I’m guessing it’s time to take mine outdoors only taken a handful of shots indoors of my dog lol
I purchased it new from wed last year when Fuji had a promotion on.

Not normally a video person but thought I'd try out the X-T2 video and have encountered an issue.

I'm shooting 1080p 60fps as my imac is not a 4k screen so doesn't seem worth going higher.

When I import everything from card into Lightroom Classic, I'm getting an error message relating to the video .mov file along the lines of:

"An unknown error has occurred while reading the video file. Connecting to Dynamic Link server failed. (1)"

Video doesn't get imported, though I can play it directly from the memory card using VLC or quick movie so file itself seems fine.

I realise I don't have to use Lightroom but I find it ideal for cataloging video files, if not editing them.

Has anyone switched from a Canon 5d mk III to an X-T2? I am looking for something a little more portable. My Canon setup which I love quite often gets left at home because of the weight.

Can anyone tell me how the auto focus and picture quality compare in low light?

Thanks

No personal experience, but judging by everything I have seen the general consensus seems to be
Not quite as good.

There again I gave up Canon FF about four years ago for Fuji and happy enough.

I switched from the mk2 mate Adrian and believe the images from the Fuji are better. The only thing that bothers me is the battery life which is about half what I'm used to and switching off the preview screen setting when using flash but that's my fault for not getting round to setting one of the buttons for that situation.

Cheers George! Happy New Year to you too! It's a tribute to how baffling the parking meters of Oxford are that the bloke in the bottom right was standing more or less still over a 10 second exposure :-)

Anybody able to come to the rescue on this one?

Hi all. Hope you don’t mind me asking... I’m about to take the plunge and buy an X-20 after thinking about if for ages! I’m not sure if it’s worth paying for the pricier lens in the package?

‘XF 18-55mm’ or the ‘XC 16-50mm MK2’

Does anyone have experience with both? Thanks in advance.

Hi Matt, I have both those lenses, but at the moment the XF 18-55mm is on my X-T20, for a kit lens it is one hell of a great lens. The XC 16-50mm is a very good lens too.

Just looked through the whole collection, you've certainly got the cinematic look locked down. How are you dealing with the aspect ratio on location?

Badly!!!

And what does that mean? Did you burn it in a darkroom?

What is LUT please?

Processed using Lightroom.

LUT is a look up table, basically it alters a pixel value based on the image pixel value and the cintents of the LUT

Appreciate the reply Dave, been thinking about this for a while. I also have a 70d which I haven’t been using as much recently. How have you found the move over to the XT20?

I had the 70D and nine lenses, one of which was the Sigma C 150-600mm, for me it was the best move I did. I just wish I had done it sooner, the X-T20 is smaller than the X-T2 but is a joy to use and to me a damn sight better than my old 70D. Move wise, I have picked up how to use the X-T20 quicker than I thought but still learning.

Thanks. I’ve been struggling to decide whether to take the plunge. I’m a bit worried that if I try a bit of sports photography, the buffer may fill up and slow very fast?

I was worried before our local airshow, so I traded some lenses for the X-T20 + XC 160-50mm and XC 50-230mm then so many weeks later I got some of my best shots in many years, some of them the best ever.

Bit of a cliché, but weirdly not a shot I had taken previously and though i'd go for more of a 'street' style than strictly 'architecture'

Thanks for the replies Dave.

Purchased the XT-20 with the 18-55mm XF lens. Very much looking forward to trying it although I can sometimes get a bit stressed out learning how new electronic items work :)
