"REALLY CHUFFED" with this shot, as far as I know its my first shot to make "EXPLORE" in Flickr.:beer:

Just a candid street style shot taken of a guy enjoying what looks like a much needed drink.

X-T1, 55-200mm Lens, 1/300th @ F5.6, ISO-200, Handheld.

Nice one :) I've only ever had 2 images on explore in all the years I've been on Flickr.

You can check this site btw: https://bighugelabs.com/scout.php?mode=top to check if any of your images made explore at any time [tick 'dropped' and it'll include any that have been there but moved on]

Many thanks for that Sir, much appreciated.(y)

"I didn't know if there was a way of checking out past inclusions. I bet we'll all be doing it now":D:D

Right you people snapping togs. What do you make of this?
I know nowt about taking photos of people but saw this lady and couldn't resist.
Let's not get into the bitchy critique that appears elsewhere but what is good about this, and what is bad?View attachment 97091
Despite breaking the usual "rules" of composition, it works really well. She's positioned oddly in the frame, but the leading lines make up for it by drawing you right to her.
Had she been in the "thirds" or "golden ratio" type position, the lines wouldnt be anywhere near as dramatic.
Nicely processed too, lots of nice detail there without being too busy or oversharpened.

Another wonderful monochrome coastal landscape

Aw, thanks. That's very kind. Since you like 'em, here's another effort :-). I think this one captures what it felt like to be there, for me. The swirl of the retreating tide, the hint of violence in the foam splashing up around the rocks, and the ominous black of the oncoming wave all ring a bell with me. I'd love to see this place in a storm. Just not too close up :-)

Thanks. I know it breaks the rules, but then I do that all the time. It was more the lines and the big empty spcae that she was looking into. I was scared stiff that she had clocked me and was going to come marching across. I don't know how you street shooters have the balls!

"Excellent" shot Sir, good comp', spot on exposure, and for me just about the right amount of movement in the water.(y)

It works for me! My only suggestion, and it's just an option, is that it might be even stronger without the floor in the foreground bottom right, in that we don't really need to see the row of chairs coming to an end.

Conversely, I might have been inclined to leave a little more room to breathe in the top left, but of course I don't know what distractions you may be cropping out. That might not be such a good idea at all :-)

Anyway, I think it's definitely a successful image and I like the "slightly HDR but not over the top" processing too.

A bit like this?

There was too much clutter to the left that's why it is so tight in that direction. It would have distracted the eye far too much, but I was wondering if I'd overcooked it. It was either this or nothing so I thought I'd take a chance.
Thanks for your comments.

Nope, I prefer the first.

Had a walk around Petworth House this morning, decided to try and channel JMW Turner's "Dewy Morning" (the actual view he painted is not possible anymore due to islands being added into the lake and the growth of the tress etc), this is as close as I could get (5 shot pano, handheld)

I like the plain body. Mines silver so would look crap with duct tape...
I have seen lots of wedding togs do it, I guess to stop gear snobbery, and that annoying uncle why you're only using a 5d3 etc...
I've also seen people rough up their gear, making it look like some piece of **** old thing held together by tape, to avoid theft/mugging in certain parts of the world.

All depends if you plan to use it to death or sell it on in the future I guess. Personally, I love a weathered looking camera, like the weathered xpro2 fuji showed off. However, i'm too poor and have to think of resale value. :(

Congratulations George, it's a great capture. Well deserved.

Just one of those days today I missed every shot! Still enjoying the fresh air and pounding the streets of Cardiff though.

Thanks George, very kind as ever, and congrats on the well-deserved Explore. I've had a few, but they're never quite the pictures I expect. It's a funny thing...

Yes, very much like that. Or you could even crop it square. I don't know which I prefer, but the original makes her seem further away, more isolated. This one is a bit more minimalist and tells a slightly different story. Horses for courses...

Quite like it but IMO it just falls short of something. Quite what that something is, I'm not entirely sure but it's missing!

Maybe looking straight along the short screen, still with her at the top left corner but with the screen making the left "frame" and the rows of chairs creating some leading perspective lines. Maybe a wider lens to force the perspective a bit could have worked?

Of course, the above would have taken it a bit out of candid territory but might have realised some interesting variations on the theme without creeping her out.

Thank you Lord Nod of Sarf England!
I couldn't go wider because of all the obstructions on the left and there were a bunch of Arsenal fans to the right.

Mickledore I will add one for the original.

I think the shot actually says quit a lot.

Solitude, silence maybe a moment of reflection. She looks like she spotted you but didn't mind sharing that moment.

The picture that's cropped somehow looks odd with chair legs incomplete at the bottom. Superb depth of field and a great conversion to black and white.

Loving your shot and congrats on your explore. Looks like a lot of folks round where I live at 8:00am outside the local off licence

Thanks @ChrisH It was in the cathedral so she may well have been in quiet contemplation. I thought she clocked me before I put the tripod down. I studiously avoided looking in her direction and even went and cleaned an imagine piece of paper from under the nearest chair. Well outside my comfort zone:eek:

I had a quick play, and cropping it square makes it more about her as a subject, but I think in the end the spaciousness of the original better gets across the atmosphere of a cathedral. Nice work.

why the black out on the camera labels, looks a bit strange?
Just tried it on there once and liked it so left it :)

And why not use the shorter bolts on the filter holder?
The shorter bolts that I have don't leave space to add on the polariser holder, so have to make do with the big clothing snaggers!

Adam,

I like your 'stealth' looking blacked-out Fooji body, electrical tape I'm guessing..?

Neat!
Yes just black electrical tape :)

Thanks. Is it a good thing that there are several opinions on it? For what it's worth SWMBO doesn't like it at all!

:)its a new one on me! buy a cool camera then hide what it is, better watch out or a de-badged version will be produced for an extra £100:eek::D

I went for black. It's a decent finish - with the film cameras I've used various cheap lenses and this one is surprisingly well built. Not fuji quality but solid all the same.

I went for black as well, as my X-E1 is black. I'm really impressed with the build quality for such a cheap lens, it feels pretty nice.

OK, to add some balance, I went for silver. Put an offer of $80 in which was accepted. Plus I had some Nectar points to use, so all in all, a cheap lens!

I have however sold my 23/2 now though. I just didn't use it enough to justify keeping a £400 lens. The new 25/1.8 should be fine for that purpose (low light street stuff).
