The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Beautiful subject and a lovely shot, Pete :)
Appreciated SJ, thanks for that...! She's the most photographed dog in Scotland.....lol

I'm loving the XF55-200mm lens, it's pretty dam sharp wide open, I know it's not that fast but I'm really enjoying it.

Regards;
Peter

In & Out of the Rain by Brian M, on Flickr
Love this capture Brian, what makes it for me is the chap at the top of the image looking in a different direction to the pram pushing lady, and the rain adds drama........ Excellent photography.

;)

Cheers Pete!

I was wandering around the rain (feeling thankful for the weather-proofing of the camera and lens) when I spotted that chap. I just had to wait for someone interesting to come along the street! I'd no sooner taken this one when the guy finished his smoke and headed back inside!

Is anyone using Iridient, either the developer of the new X-transformer?
I downloaded x-transformer today and OMG does it make a different to the X-trans RAF files, LR is garbage in comparison. Down side X-transformer is to just makes DNG files and not TIFF.

Good information Mark, I've never heard of it myself. Seems it's only available for Mac PC's....(?) What kind of cost is it and do you notice substantial improvements processing wise and web quality etc...? Love to hear your views/thoughts please. Thank you.

Cheers;

Purchased it last month as there was a noticeable difference in the few files I tried. On the few occasions I've taken shots since then I keep forgetting to use it!

Post-it note now attached to my editing PC to remind me on import next time.

ETA @macvisual there is a free trial for PC it watermarks the images but it lets you see what it's capable of.

Yes, it's a routine part of my workflow, the first step basically. I leave the sharpening on Low, and everything else at default.

I think if you do subjects that benefit from detail, and especially if you print large, there's a significant improvement to be had. If you do mainly glowy portraits (for example) it's probably not of much interest.

I will let you know once I've used it more but from my intial testing it makes the X-trans iii RAF files pop. Also it's the only way I can get those files into LR/PS at present. I'm only using the X-transform software which is £26 and works on Windows and Mac. There's a demo available so no hard in giving it a try. I might do a quick video showing the work flow once I have that nailed.

I tried it out, and while it is better for sharpening, it makes a right mess of OOF areas in images. I still prefer LR, I think people over rate sharpness.

It's a fair few pages back in this thread now, but a few of us threw up some direct comparison samples.

I bought it, I only use it on clean low ISO files though as I don't like the noise it creates at high ISO. To be honest, thinking about it I haven't used it in a while, it's a good tool to have in the box though.

.... LR is garbage in comparison.

That's a very strong statement, even taking account of the context in which it was made.

I've been very happy with how LR works with my RAW files (both Fuji and Nikon) albeit I've altered my workflow recently and now do very little in LR. I import from card using it, with all sharpening turned off by default and use keywording as appropriate. I then do whatever highlights, shadows, whites and blacks adjustments I see as necessary and then it's over to PS where I make full use of Nik Color Efex, Silver Efex, Sharpening and Define. I might go back briefly to LR for a vignette but that's it.

I've downloaded the Iridient trial but I don't like the look and feel of it much. I'd be keen to see comparison images to see how it's seen as being better (in at least some respects) to LR.

Hello. New X-T2 owner here.

Just wondering if Fuji defines the capabilities of the weather sealing anywhere? Ok to use in a light shower, I assume, what about a heavy shower/downpour?

(I once killed a Canon 7D after being hit by a wave. That was clearly pushing it!)

Another question (sorry)... I have an Elinchrom flash unit. Is there a cheap/simple way to fire that from the X-T2?

For Canon, I have a VERY cheap Yongnuo TX/RX combo. Is there an equivalent for Fuji? Is YN560 / YN560-TX as cheap/easy as it gets?

In fact, a wired solution (10ft cable) would be okay. Is that possible?

Even cheaper than that! Your Yongnuo's should work fine.

I use this set up with Fuji and my old Canon 580 flash units. Works well but in manual mode only.

Has anyone here used the Samyang 21mm 1.4? It looks like a pretty good deal for astro and landscapes, and I've generally liked its 12mm relative. I expect the XF 23mm 2.0 is a bit sharper in the corners, but it's also a bit more expensive, and manual focus isn't that important to me, especially not doing landscape.

The problem I see for the Samyang 21mm are the two Fuji 23's, the only thing the Samyang has in it's favour is cost.

The 23mm F2 is has lightning fast AF, good IQ, is compact and WR

The 23mm F1.4 is simply stellar, possibly the sharpest Fuji prime, great at 1.4, and has AF

But if you like MF and don't have the budget for either of the Fuji's then it looks a good buy. It's also quite compact and light.

Looks like the Samyang 21 focuses almost as close as the fuji 23 F2, that's cool. For £100 less you're getting that extra DOF and stop of light, plus a little more width, the compromise is obviously AF.

I would love to see a work flow video. Is it a one off purchase or monthly/yearly subscription?

I love it in there. So much interesting stuff but I always find it difficult to really nail a composition as there's just so much going on in there!
I find myself in kelvingrove yet again. Having a coffee trying to think of new ideas. Apart from bringing a slightly longer lens this time to isolate a single Heid I expect to go home with more of the same.

I use Yongnuo YN560 II with RF603 II poverty wizards, work fine when used as previously stated in manual mode

Exactly how I felt in there. The 18-55mm just wasn't long enough or in some cases wide enough, hence the 10-24mm actually saw more use on the day.

I'd have fit the entire frontage in at 10mm if it weren't for that giant damn plant pot [emoji1]

I feel my Fuji gas might return the afternoon thinking a man Xt-2 might be added after another deal fell through. Thing is I might splash out on a 100-400 as well. Luckily I'm going to be shifting my Canon gear soon [emoji848]
