The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Anyone use/shoot a Samyang 85mm f/1.4 for Fuji X fit....?

I did have it and sold it and if I'm honest should have gave it more time. Shooting wide open at times did produce chromatic aberration so sometimes you needed to stop down. I've now learned that you don't need to shoot everything wide open!!

Here was some examples.

The xt1 WAS rubbish for tracking moving sports cars. I tried and failed.
Never had a problem doing this with any of my nikons.

No, it's not. I have hundreds of motorsports shots with the X-T1.

AF was fine, the EVF blackout is a pain.

The X-T1 is weird in AF-C - it appears to hunt like a crazed Berkley rider but by some miracle of modern whizz-bangery, it seems to pick the subject up just fine when the button is pressed! The EVF blackout does make it a bit difficult (well, different at least) when shooting bursts while panning but with a little practise, it's not an insurmountable problem. The X-T2 is a lot better in both respects and the extra pixies allow slightly more cropping so you can shoot a bit looser and frame how you want in PP.

@jj_glos Cracking shots, i have the XT-2 and 55-200 lens and i went to the Forest of Dean Rally at the end of last year and nailed 95% of the shots of the rally cars going past.

Any out of focus shots were down to user error.
As it was the first time i had tried any motorsport with a Fuji.

Julian i am only 20 miles from you so give me a shout if you want a bit of company on your next motorsport outing

The camera may not work for how you shoot, I don't know. I just replied for balance and others reading the thread. The EVF blackout drove me mad on the X-T1, which made it harder for me to track subjects. I'll pick up a grip eventually for the X-T2 to see how that goes. Tracking AF is improved on the X-T2, but that's more with regards to difficult subjects (like BIF) rather than cars/motorbikes which I found fine on the X-T1.

Edit: I notice you're in Kidderminster, which isn't far from me. I'm not sure when the next motorsports event is that I'll be going to, but your more than welcome to have a go with the X-T1 and X-T2 if you want to compare.

Cheers mate.

But at this rate I may have an XT2 by the time it comes around.

Got my Nikon gear with me today so Jessops can provide an accurate quote for the D750 and 24-120 lens.

Someone mentioned the other day that the most recent picture of me on facebook was from 2012. I much prefer being behind the camera, but figured i'd better at least take something for a profile pic. I actually quite like the way it came out. :)

I'll be the first to say, you look nothing like I thought [emoji1]

A good effort at a selfie though. Did you use the app?

Haha what were you expecting?

Didnt use the app, just long arms ;)

To be honest this was shot just testing focal lengths etc a couple of months ago. When someone mentioned the Facebook thing, figured i'd dig it out and use it.

I have 2 x 5D4 and a bunch of Canon mount lenses for "work". I can and I have taken 1 body with 1 lens (typically the 35L) on travel but have also sold my spare 5D2 so intend to replace it with something else. I am not limited by brand or even budget as I am also considering Sony A7R2 but what I want is something with good AF, good DR, good ISO performance as it is mainly going to be used as a natural light camera for travel. The attraction of a Sony body is I could use all my Canon lenses where as with Fuji I need to get a few.

I guess I don't need the XT2 so looking at the XT1, is that a good camera compare to say the Canon 5D3 (I know the 5D4 will knock it out of the park)? I am happy if it could match the 5D3 and the price seems reasonable these days.
If I was in your shoes I'd go for the X-T2. With you coming from a 5D4 the T1 would be to much of a step down in my opinion. Having had a T1 and now have a T2 it's much improved, others my disagree.

Yes it's excellent. Just ordered the F and at the minute think that will do me fine. Your old 35mm was superb on it as well [emoji6]

Yes was a good lens that.

Right, tomorrow I get an X-T2 with 18-55mm lens and grip half price.

£1798 all in.

I'm trading in my D750 body, 24-120mm F4 VR and 70-300mm VR.

They'll owe me £105.

Can't believe that trade in quote so I'm taking them up on it in case they change their minds!

Not a bad price consider is Jessop. The 18-55mm is a good lens to start off with. I find it with fuji camera, the fun begins with prime lens. I'm still resisting the temptation to buy fuji zooms. I'm sticking with my primes.

I could do you an XT2 with a 16-55 f2.8 for £1600 [emoji6]

Just a simple Fujigraph taken of a Telegraph Pole that I messed about with in LR & PS and ended up with this.

X-T2, 55-200mm Lens, 1/500th @ F6.4, ISO-200, Handheld.

My internal conflict or inner geek in me is that the closer i get to £2k, the more i am inclined to just get a Sony A7R2 for that amazing sensor and the Canon lens compatibility. By the time I buy 2 lenses with a XT-2, I could get a A7R2 with adaptor and have access to 9 lenses.

Horizon is wonky... ;)

Many thanks Sir, much appreciated.(y)

"Errm! there is no horizon, but if you mean the pole, I've just re-checked it on my PC grid and the centre of the pole is perfectly upright. Obviously it tapers a bit towards the top as the camera was pointing upwards and I didn't mess about with keystoning"

Yeah, X-T1 AF-C breathing is odd. Once you realise it doesn't seem to impact the end result all is good though. The X-T2 acts more like you'd expect, and you get proper back button focusing (although I've found I like assigning the button on the front of the body to AF-ON the best!).

Sounds like a plan to me. Prescott and Castle Combe start up in April, I haven't looked elsewhere yet. I really want to get to a rally, but I either forget completely out I remember but can't make it!

Hehe I was just pulling your chain George. Nice capture, did you use mono+R to darken the sky or did you do the conversion in post and bring it down?

"It was shot just standard in RAW, then converted to DNG and any cropping, white & black points, highlights & shadows etc etc adjusted in LR. The rest was done in PS and converted to mono using one of the boxes (I forget what its called) but it effectively converts the image to mono but you can still alter the various colour tones if you get my drift so I just toned down the blue to virtually zero which gave me the black sky. I then just bumped up the contrast a bit to give it a bit of punch. Copyright etc was added via a brush then uploaded to Flickr. That's about it really."

Rookies? :D

Sounds to me like you want to be more convinced to buy a Sony, there is a thread for that camera.

Quick one for anyone with both a 23 F2, and a 35 1.4 - if you had to choose one only, which would you keep? Pondering on trading my 35 for a 23, but then the 35 is so good for portraits and I have hear/read/seen in reviews of the 23, that it can be soft wide open?

Ok I have both. I'd never swap the 35 for the 23 in a million years. The 35 just renders so well :) I'll probably sell the 23/2. It's a great lens, I'm sure, but I just seem to always opt for a zoom or the 35 / 56.

Good to know, i've been considering moving on the 35mm in favour of something wider, but 23mm on the zoom isn't far off 2.8 anyway, and has the OIS.

Still, as much as I love the 35mm it isnt getting much use, maybe i'll swap for a 12mm or something...

Slowly getting to know the XT-2 while managing a new baby and a move back home to NZ. Shooting more now and starting to really enjoy it. I've been back and forth about the in camera jpegs but I'm now using them about 90% of the time - the colour is just wow and it avoids all the hassle with trying to sharpen the raws in lightroom. Here is a snap shot with the XT2 and the 16mm. If anyone is into landscapes and hasn't been to New Zealand , well...

Looks a wonderful place, hoping to pay a visit in a couple a couple of years. Rent a motorhome for 3 weeks and explore.
