The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Well, I now have an XT2 to add to my XPro2. No need for a blackmagic 4k cinema camera and canon glass now which is a huge bonus as I'm sure flog and hdmi out to a recorder will be more than enough for my use.

Anyone else use the video modes on the Fuji? The 1.76 crop (1.5x apsc x 1.17x in body) means it's a better fit than all the m43 bodies and a fair amount of the full frame bodies too. It's almost super35 in sensor dimension so it should make for a really nice finish.

105mbit/s is a welcome bonus as a base recording rate. It's not quite ProRes 422 at 23.98p but it's not a $5000+ super35 based camera requiring a large rig and expensive media. Down sampled to 1080p and it'll look brilliant!

Most of what you said.

OK I got a £125 gift card from bt for switching to their broadband, are there any good little nick nacks I could get for the xt2. I'm not really fussed about the leather half cases.

Fuji XT-2 XG extended grip?
Fuji Covers Pack?
Fuji Metal Hood for 35mm f2.0 if you have that?
Peak Design Straps?
ThinkTank Bags?

:D

First trip out today with the new X-T2 + my new 16-55 and I'm really liking the handling coming from the X-T10. Love the handiness of the ISO dial and the little nubbin is fantastic (although having been used to the X-T10 and my Nikon D800 I frequently tried to shift the focus point using the directional arrow buttons). In camera processing of long exposures seems to take forever compared with my Nikon but I gather it's normal. Also handy for me was the fact that my 77mm Lee filter adapter fits the 16-55mm lens.

Yeah, I got that email this morning too - hopefully will be able to find another discount code when it comes to renewal time!
I only just renewed mine at the standard price a fortnight ago. Felt like I shouldn't have at the time but I'm glad I did now!

Come on guys lets not make this thread about moaning about Adobe, the increase is less than a cup of coffee a month, and most of us spend vast amounts on travelling for our togging, so a couple of quid extra really is no biggie. Its still cheap for what it is.

Not at all, just saying if anyone wants to go for CC it may be best to do so before 6 March ;)

I got a great deal by buying 1 year at once via Amazon on Black Friday, so if anyone is wondering about whether to move to CC, it may be most cost effective to do so in November :-)

Anyone tried this yet https://www.dpreview.com/news/19395...ings-much-loved-x-trans-processing-to-windows

Never had a problem with the "painterly" effect, but this may help if you do and use a Windows machine.

Might give it a go tomorrow afternoon, off for a stroll in the morning and usually come back with a photo or three

Yeh, it basically just pre sharpens the files before they hit Lightroom. In camera JPG still has best detail overall though this can help improve raw.

Thanks, sounds like it does the same job as Photo Ninja then, might still give it a try

Lovely shot and very well timed. But isn't it a female house sparrow rather than a chaffinch?

You are more likely right than I :D I'm still learning the subtle differences between some of the smaller birds. I will re-title the pic on Flickr and pretend like I never called it a chaffinch :D cheers :)

Great focusing!!

Thanks! :) Getting the hang of using these longer MF lenses. The birds are hella fast! Even at 1/500th you can still get blur, which can be cool so long as I keep their beaks in focus :D Even in this one here at 1/1000thyou can still see movement, but I do like that, especially if they're in flight or taking off/landing.

It's become a permanent (for now anyway!) part of my workflow. If you already use Photo Ninja, you may not see as much benefit, but for those of us who are Lightroom based and interested in fine detail/biggish prints, it's well worth considering.

My only proviso would be not to set the sharpening too high, as it's universally applied and can't be undone or masked. I try to use just enough for capture sharpening (or none) and do the main sharpen later in Photoshop.

Does anyone use the X-T1 and 18-55 lens for studio portraiture? Is the lens sharp enough for fine facial details? I could get a loan of a 35mm f1.4. Would I see a significant difference?

Whats the 16-50 kit lens like for af speed and iq?

Light, fast to focus and the ii version has good stabilisation which easily allows handheld shots at 1/15th second. There's some noticeable distortion at 16mm though.

Depends how fast a shutter your using, how stable your hands are and what the light is like where you are + many other variables. On paper it'll be the better option. In use on a bright day when conditions are perfect the 35 is notably sharper for me at 2.8 and pretty much as sharp down at 1.4/1.8. If conditions aren't great and your shooting at 1/40 or slower then your likely to be better off with the 18-55.
My advise, borrow one and make up your own mind if the benefits (if any) work for you.
