The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

I just leave it at 100, not tried other settings. Sometimes I think I am really old school with photography, bar the whole digital side. SP AF, always matrix metering bar sometimes spot for macro, don't dabble with DR, barely ever touch exp comp as I'm mostly in manual mode and find old MF lenses charming - I think I'm in the wrong era :D

Anyone using the DR feature?
No I've not touched it so far. I assume it only affects JPEGS.

I'm hoping to shoot some landscapes in the next few weeks so I might give it a try to see how it looks :)

That's really good to hear Keith, as I thought I was the only one with that sort or technique.:D(y)

Still getting to grips with the XT-1. So, having bought a Nikon to Fuji adapter I stuck my Nikon 55mm f2.8 macro on it.
My 3 legged cat...

It's not an effect like d- light on the Nikon for example. Its localised iso adjustment that works in raw also although I've only tested in jpeg. I've had a little play and it's quite effective and subtle. I've set it to auto to see how I get on with it for s while.

A simple way to get around noise in files is to just down-sample them :D
I have owned the Sony A7RII which has probably the best 42.2mp full-frame sensor on the market and have no regrets moving to the Fuji XT-2.
Side by side the images both camera's produce are excellent.... the XT-2 costs £1399 vs the A7RII at £2999, is the Sony £1600 better than the Fuji? I'll let you decide but for me it wasn't.
My point is that each camera is different so you can't really compare them entirely.
Some prefer DSLR's and some don't.
I have shot high ISO files from the Fuji all the way up to 12,800 and to me they are perfectly useable.... it depends on how critical you are when you do your post work..... like somebody said, they wouldn't push past 3200, that's his/her choice..... perhaps some people are just pixel peeping more than is required?

Look at it this way......

If I used my Fuji XT-2 or Sony A7RII for a wedding, I'd say that the end client won't tell the difference....... if it was shot with either....... still going to get paid the same money for the photos.... so what am I actually gaining for having higher megapixel counts and a body which costs £1600 more than the Fuji? :D
The only thing I can think of is pixel peeping pleasures and that's all, once you get over that aspect of photography you just file the photos and move on the next task......
Why do people who comment about noise or sharpness instantly get labelled pixel peepers? I VERY RARELY zoom in on other people's images yet will often see that an image is a bit soft or noisy. These things are all subjective, but just because you can see it more than others, or dislike it more than others doesn't mean that you're a pixel peeper (y)

Tried it out of curiosity, won't be doing so again ;)

Is DR mode why Neil's Fuji has ISO 200 as min?
It's just the native/base ISO of Fuji. Olympus are the same, as are some older cameras (such as Neil's old D700) (y)

Because I didn't like the results for one, and since then I've decided that no matter how good Fuji jpegs are I can still get better results shooting RAW (y)

Cheers all, forgot I had posted those pics later last night!

Yes it was at Prescott Speed Hill Climb. I really enjoy the events there :)

NIce set! Really like the first one in particular :)

Probably putting two and two together here and making five, but were these shot at Prescott?

Nice shots, love no. 2.

Cool shots. Number 2 is the stand-out for me.

Nice set of images Julian, with #1 being my fav'.(y)

Just a random question - how do you know which firmware your using for Fuji lenses?

The same way you check the firmware on the body. When you have the lens attached it will tell you the firmware on that as well. I can't remember which button it is you hold in when powering on the camera, is it the display button?

It sounds quite clever is adjusts iso in areas rather than s
Tried it out of curiosity, won't be doing so again ;)

I've only used it shooting in a room towards the window so not a definitive test however i thought it was quite subtle.

I shot an awards ceremony, I had photos of people walking from their tables to the stage, unlit (no spotlight lol). ISO 12800, 1/200th, 1.8 - yet the D750 c-af kept up with them and the ISO meant I could provide sharp clean photos, I'd even have multiple to choose from as you can't control expressions of everyone...

on the stage the light was iso 320, 1/200th, 1.8 :)

I haven't tested C-AF but my X-T2 destroys my 1D4 in low light AF.

Always liked the D750 and had the vain hope Canon would release something similar in performance. Given up waiting now, but still find it difficult to sell all my Canon gear. I was even thinking of buying a 5D4 the other day! I know that as soon as I sell up they'll announce the 6D2 with everything I always wanted...

An Alpine. Lovely. They were super cars before the days of Supercars. Used to watch them being rallied on the dear departed RAC.
Ditto. I have a hand-made model of one.

Well I'll keep popping in but I'm out of the XT club! Heading back to full frame DSLR and a X-Pro 2 (unless the X100F looks amazing!) - cracking bit of kit but missing the flexibility of a full frame RAW for the type of shooting I tend to do and because I feel that the XT2 with the battery grip feels great but without a grip the X-Pro 2 feels the better camera in my hand.
So I've made the call that if I'm carrying around almost a DSLR size body (Gripped XT2) I might as well just have a full frame DSLR, I do still love the XP2 though so won't be leaving Fuji completely!

I thought it wouldn't be too long :)

Yes, great cars. I have more shots from that weekend. I'm not sure why I never got round to processing any of them :s

Also a newer Alpine GTA looked pretty fine going up the hill :)

I like the look of the new concept Alpine that Renault have been looking at. I don't know if it's going to make it into production?

Really lovely

Cheers :) I was looking to get Robins and other small birds but the Starlings as ever kept taking over. I thought that last one was funny though, looks like the startled looking one either farted or has just heard some juicy gossip fro the other 2 :D

The second and third shots are quite nice..

Thanks :) The third was shot using my old Sigma 150mm adapted to the XT-1, trickier to get the focus manually for birdies. Bit of practice using that lens manually and it'll be a winner ... apart from it's weight

Which camera bag for a X-T10 & 18-55XF lens only ?
Smaller the better as got loads of larger bags
