The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Thinking on offloading my 55-200, realising I'm not going to really make the most of the longer end. I want to get a nice prime, and maybe some old manual 135 - 200mm glass for the odd few birds-in-the-garden shots and compressed portraits. The only thing I would miss is the brilliant OIS. Pondering on the 18-55 to nurse that urge, and maybe look at the 60 'macro'. Or the 35 F2 + 60mm is pretty much all I would need Fuji-wise. I still have the 27mm, not sure what to do with that, it's very handy as a pocket lens. If I could sell that plus the 55-200, I'd get the 35 and maybe keep an eye out for a good value used 60mm. Anyone out there fancy a trade of a 35 F2 + 60m 2.4 for both? :D

I used to use my Nikon 100mm macro on my XT1. It was brilliant on a tripod but the lack of OIS handheld annoyed me so much that I just stopped using this combination. If I was annoyed with 100mm focal length there is no way I can handle 200mm or longer without OIS.

If you're interested in long manual glass, I've a 200mm f4 Takumar sitting unloved in a drawer. Stick up a wanted ad and let me know it's there!

I've used a hefty 150mm Sigma on my Fuji hand held, the lens on it's own is 1.2kg, can be tricky, but very manageable. I'd be confident enough with a long lens that was about half that weight. For portraits you can take your time really. I don't shoot birds in flight or anything, or I'd be looking to save for the 100-400 Fuji :)

I had it up before for £50ish. I'll save the need for the mods doing any work by pointing out my old for sale thread for it and saying that I'll be happy to discuss further in the correct sub-forum ;)

Some of my own personal favourite photos of our kids are a little off focus, sometimes sharp is not all. I'd rather a great slightly oof smile like that than pixel-peep-proof sad faces :)

Then you should consider the Sony A7RII pair with the Batis or G Master lenses, its a pixel peepers wet dream! :D lol
You don't buy Fuji for pixel peeping...... one of the reasons I ditched Sony but must admit I may miss certain aspects of the Sony system.

I think Digital Depot were the cheapest on Black Friday, but I was told that once the current stock is gone that prices would go back up as they doubt they can buy them in at the cheaper prices from Fuji (margin). I managed to grab 4 lenses off them with 1 of them on back order.

Regarding the 50-140mm f2.8 prices, I was one of the lucky few who managed buy the 50-140mm + 1.4x TC bundle for £1319, I also have another one on order as I was going to try and to take advantage off the double cash back offer but missed out.
So the plan was to send back the first lens, get a full refund and keep the second one when it arrives (on back order)... but from what I can make out Fuji won't accept a order confirmation for cash backs, only invoices.

The way things are heading I wouldn't be surprised if Fuji prices went up again along with the other manufacturers too. :(

Just spent 30 mins annoying the kids taking their pictures this morning. Its the first real change I've had to use it. It feels really nice in the hand and set at 6400 iso photos are really pleasant still. Coming from a entry level nikon and now having so many setting at hand without delving into the menu is a real luxury. Can't decide what settings I like most yet though playing with the shadows and highlights settings.

That's gear-head talk! :D

I imagine those who moan about megapixels and AF speeds constantly, polishing their lenses with drool while hitting the zoom button on every image they come across. Never looking at the wider picture.

Can't say i never have a closer look, when I want to check sharpness of an image, because I fancy the lens or whatever. But ... I can admire an immediately pleasing image a lot more so than I can razor sharp flower petals.

This was always going to be the case, the launch price of the X-T2 was set at the 'new' price level, but I expect that everything else will creep up a bit, obviously dealers who are stocked up on some of the older lenses may hold their prices for a bit.

Fuji's continual obsession for Cashback offers means that canny people will only buy when there are offers on, so knowing a 'real' price for a Fuji product is actually quite difficult. I'd expect though for the volume of cashback offers to reduce as more market share is established, at the moment its all about encouraging people to switch from other systems, as well as making Fuji attractive for first time purchasers.

When I'm aiming for perfection it's what I need. I want pin point sharpness and a good composition otherwise it's in the bin. Occasionally I'll keep some of the kids that are meh but otherwise it's what I want and need. I can get sharp enough snaps from a phone so I want to go better. Don't think I've ever moaned about image size (mp) they are what they are and hell I'm too lazy to clean a lens...

I like sharpness, but in certain images it's not important at all. It has it's place sure. being sharp doesn't auto make a good image. Sometimes an image is purposely not sharp, anywhere! You know I was jesting with you, as you know what you're doing [I think! :p ] I' talking the general pleb gear head who spends more time worried about AF speeds they will never make use of, and think anything over 2 years old is ancient history.

I was doing a wedding a few years back, and one of the guys there was quizzing me on my camera. He was harping on about his phone having 24mp, [it was the first Q he asked "how many MP is that 'thing'?"] I tried to explain to him the MP count meant nothing, it's about the quality of the sensor, the size of the sensor, the processor etc .. he was having none of it. So I told him to take a picture of another guest in the distance, and I took same, then told him to zoom in to 100% - well, his was a mess, where mine was still crisp and clear. I was using a 12mp D90 ... he was a bit sickened and went off in a huff :D It's that type of bell end I mean. They tend to know little about photography, all about the latest and greatest gear.

I don't take my camera to weddings for that reason due to people asking questions and idiot's. But I also do look at the togs equipment and sometimes wonder why they haven't upgraded to something newer, mainly as are they doing well or just happy.

That is a cracking shot, but, it's not the camera that took that image. Given any camera, I bet the result would be difficult to tell apart!

Cracks me up too. Weddings on Canon 20D or Nikon xxx where shot in a different style. Film cameras were being used to take wedding photos too - but if you look at the albums, the style of 'posed' and 'stand here' (because the light is good) is totally different from the modern documentary / PJ style.

I will be getting a chance to try out the X-T2 at a wedding in the new year but the X-T1 is not up to scratch and before anyone quotes users of such systems such as Kevin Mullins, bear in mind that he admits to having to readjust and change his style - not just pick up the camera and go.
