The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

It was very strong until another rumor said that Fuji will be focusing on the F2 range of lenses. Your best place to look is the Fuji lens roadmap

I think the rumour started because the X-Pro2 had/has guidelines for 33mm, which obviously doesn't exist as a prime at the moment. I would guess somebody put one and two together and then got f1.0.

Nothing has ever appeared on the roadmap iirc, it looks a bit sparse right now, just a 50mm f2 WR and the 80mm 2.8 Macro. I wonder if GF lens development will slow down the X line now.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a fisheye at some point, but it would be nice to get an updated 35mm 1.4 with Linear Motors.

Buy an L-bracket from ebay, which will give you portrait ARCA as well. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=162272274034#ht_5156wt_1397

No Additional GRip though, just ARCA, depends on what you are looking for
OOH @Mr Perceptive. Think you're a bit wrong there. That link is for an X-T2 plate, not X-T1 as mentioned earlier.
This is an X-T1 from our favourite supplier:-
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUNWAYFOT...-Compatible-/331854238183?hash=item4d440dd1e7
and it does have extra grip.

Not sure anyone will have any money left over for this and the new tripod head required once they've obtained the world supply of Fuji lenses!

These plates shift the tripod connection over a bit right? p***es me right off where they originally placed it on cam, any tripod blocks the battery door.

With an ARCA compatible head and grip, you can slide the camera into the position you want, its not a one position affair.

yeah just noticed after I posted, saw the image of the base. No good to me atm, I only have a mini tripod with a non removable ball-head.

When doing long exposures it's a royal PITA when you have to switch batts.

A proper ARCA plate won't do that. Get the right one for your camera. I'm totally lost in this thread atm. What camera are you shooting?

I have an ARCA clamp on top of my Gorilla pod. Your tripod can easily be adapted - if the will exists.

How do you change batteries in the middle of a long exposure at present without ruining the shot?

I've used this and the findings are interesting, but need to interpreted with care. I'd imagine if you had a 10mm-400mm superzoom if it existed, went away and shot thousands of images across your preferred range of subjects, you could then use the data to reliably buy primes of your most used focal lengths.

I found for me, that it showed me I used both ends of my zooms, more than I used the middle, albeit there was a spread across the range. No surprises there - that's apparently quite common. However, it would be dangerous to assume that from my 16-35 results, I could live with a 16mm and a 35mm prime, and from my 24-70 results (my most used lens), I could live with 24mm and 70mm. My 24-70 was my most used lens because if ever I travelled, and wanted one lens, that was the lens I'd take. I'd often find it not wide enough (hence bunching at 24mm) and not long enough, (hence bunching at 70). The same goes for the 16-35. So it would be dangerous for me to conclude they were my preferred focal lengths. I'm also lazy. So despite carrying a bag full of lenses, if the shot could be got with the lens I had on the camera, that's what I'd typically do, further bunching results at the ends and reducing the frequency of use of the lesser used lenses even further. It is an interesting insight into behaviour though :)

What I've noticed with Fuji pics, I've seen a lot more people using shorter focal lengths for portraits than with DSLRs. I suppose it's obvious really - the cameras do suit the very popular wider primes and lens inertia (can't be bothered to change lens), or lens unavailability - ie, I've not got longer in my very light camera bag, could all drive usage up for a focal length, than might otherwise have been the case had a superzoom existed that covered every focal length.

Just a thought could you also be comparing FL on a crop vs full frame dslr. That would make the Fuji err on the side of shorter FL.

But also that it's a little easier to get in someone's face with a small camera:)

Ah, all I meant was I've seen a lot of portraits taken with 23 and 35mm lenses on the Fuji. (And great they looked too). I agree, definitely easier to get in someone's proximity with a small lens, than a 2.8L behemoth!

Walking round Comic Con when I had a gripped 5dm3 and big glass 85mm 1.2 L - people I passed commented on it, thinking it was like a microscope/telescope/somekindofmacrolens that would highlight all the flaws on their face.

You don't ... I'm talking about when the battery runs out of course, and I have to unscrew the mini pod just to switch batts. You lose position and it's a PITA. The batts don't tend to last very long

Argghhh, the agony of getting notification from Royal Mail that they've tried a delivery (of 50-140 and 1.4x) and it's gone back to depot as there is no one available to sign today.....
I had to collect something from the depot this morning, turns out to be my Fujinon 35mm f2.0 WR :D Yay!
It's still on for £299 at Amazon UK which is slightly cheaper than other places. ;)

Just been and checked, it has the same sort of arrangement as in hood with rubber rectangular cap that falls off
If you get it warm and scrunch it up a bit it fits better. Still not tight, but better.

I never used the rubber caps with either the 18 or 35. With the 35 I had mastered the art of putting the lens cap on without removing the hood (it's all in the angle of attack!) but that wasn't possible with the 18 so I removed the hood each time to put the cap on. The 18 never saw a lot of use anyway so wasn't a major hassle.

I got my at that price (new) in the shop when I bought the used silver XT1 from them. They do me at that price plus a free 16GB decent sandisk SD card.

Some people complain about the small lens hood and Fuji sells another bigger hood for the 35mm f2 for £50 ...... saw a third party one on ebay sell for £7-8. Worth changing the hood?

You could have been a mate and picked up Simes lenses for him lol

That's a good deal! How much is the monthly cc?
£8 something/month, although you can often get an offer so the first 12 months is £6 something IIRC.

I assume that the current £80 part ex bonus will stop before the double cashback starts?

Found it....
I've just emailed fuji regarding this. I can't find anything about it anywhere other than this link?

xt1 for just £500 i'll keep it until next Christmas and get a xt2 when thats part of the deals.

You can only see problems. You should be looking for answers. They exist.

How profound ...

I know they exist, I'm saying it's dumb how they designed it to begin with. I actually don't want a grip, or I'd already have one. So I have to buy one or an Arca plate, just so i can change battery easier ... yeah, great .... if it costs me money, it's a problem.
