The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

I actually watch a video on youtube that compare the XT2 AF tracking vs Nikon D810 tracking. I think the XT2 is slightly better on tracking, but I think both camera can do the job. The benefit of using the Nikon is lens selection where as Fuji is very limited.
To me the actual tracking isn't the biggest concern for me whilst shooting sports etc. Whilst obviously vitally important it's the speed of acquiring focus that can be most important for me. Did it illustrate this aspect and if so how did the XT2 fair against the D810?

I think they comparing the AF tracking instead of FPS. I might be wrong but the AF on the D810 is same as the D4 series? The high burst on the Nikon is probably better but the XT2 is not bad. The problem with the Fuji 100-400 is f4.5-5.6 where as Nikon you can get more faster lens but like you say the Fuji setup is super light compare to Nikon setup.
The only Nikon tele's that are faster are primes though and much more expensive.

All over the internet ;-) x forum etc..... mainly jpeg and over aggressive nr apparently tho
Yep googled it earlier but poor res and crops etc so would be nice to see it in the 'real world' so to speak ;)

I wanted a lighter camera than the d750 this may tip me over the edge.
I'm off to contemplate buying a Leica SL
Mmmmm Leica ;)

I have had both in the past, for your purposes I would go for the newer f2 version although being honest not greatly impressed with either.

Do have the faster model just in case I need it for something specific, but much prefer the 18-55 for most uses
What don't you like with the 35mm f1.4?

Noisy and slow to focus, hood is crap too with the rubber cap that never stays on
It's really not that slow, at least mine isn't ;) :p I've got a metal hood with mine, my only gripe is the shape with it being rectangular meaning it's a PITA to remove/replace the lens cap without taking the hood off first

Admittedly it doesn't help my using it mainly on a X-E1. Mine also has a metal hood, but the useless push on cap is rubber, agree about the lens cap too.

All in all the verdict is could do better, but it used to be fairly cheap and its handy for certain applications wide open

I didn't get a rubber hood with mine

TBH I bought this lens purely on end result, for what I use the lens for ultimate AF performance is not an issue (y)

It's not a rubber hood, just the cap that fits on the end of the rectangular metal hood presumably because it's not easy to use a regular clip on lens cap

I'm the same with the focus not being important hence the X-E1, but the question was asked in relation to photographing kids

Ahh, sorry I see. Hmmm, don't think mine came with that rubber thingy, need to check the box.

Don't worry, you haven't missed much, probably fell off and got lost :)

Seem to recall the 18mm having something similarly useless

Thanks everyone. I've got a X100 classic with TCL so I'm okay for f2 albeit a bit slow to focus. Just thinking of f1.4. I feel I need to justify my X-T1 purchase. My only other lens is the 10-24

Advice anyone? I'm looking to buy the Samyang 12mm to use with my XT1, I would of course prefer the 10-24 but alas can't afford it:( I have the 18-135XF. I've looked online and see of course the price variations. Wex £279 and other outlets such as eglobal and Venture Direct. £50 difference but I've never bought anything from these guys. Anyone used these? Should I buy from more trusted seller such as Wex?
Many thanks.

It's an excellent lens, I don't use mine a lot, but am always pleased with results when I do.

They often pop up in eBay for around £200 used.

18mm has a plastic hood that's thin at the end and needs unscrewing before the lens cap can go on. its annoying

Just been and checked, it has the same sort of arrangement as in hood with rubber rectangular cap that falls off

I use my 35mm f1.4 all the time photographing my daughter and family. No complaints. The AF is a bit noisy if I listen to it, but in the main don't notice it. I'd only swap it for something like the rumoured 33mm f1.0!

How strong a rumour is that? I've always fancied the Noct 50mm f0.95 but it's MF and I can't imagine trying to nail MF at f0.95

There's long been talk of a 33/1.0, but if the rumours are to be believed, Fuji prioritised the f/2 WR lens developments.

OK, so I think I have a settled lineup at last :D

X-T1 (graphite silver, phwoar!)
Samyang 12/2
XF 18-55/2.8-4
XF 23/2 WR
XF 35/1.4
XF 56/1.2
XF 55-200/3.5-4.8

X-E2
XC 16-50/3.5-5.6 II
XF 27/2.8
XC 50-230/4.5-6.7

b****r, forgot about the X-A2 and X-Pro 1

I'm keeping a lookout on EBay and elsewhere, never bought a lens from EBay before. I can see new from approx £220 but I'm not familiar with the sellers ie Eglobal. Perhaps I'm being over cautious. Places like Amazon and Wex don't have them in stock right now.

It's at least as fast as my 1980s Nikon ones were. It works fine but it's hardly brilliant by 2016 standards. There's a rubber rectangular cap to go overt he hood, I don't ever use it, but I don't use caps at all to be honest, just something else to slow down changing lenses and get lost in the field!

I've been trying to decide if I'm happy with the low-light performance or not although I tend to think the second shot below looks better (aside from the horrible concrete block on the left! and I'm left wondering if my disappointment with the first is more down to the low-light handling of the Samyang 12mm v the Fuji 16mm in the second....

Is it worth getting the L bracket for the X-T10 before I get the camera ?
How many brought one before you got the camera ?

I bought one within a couple of weeks of owning the camera. It just felt too small for me without one.
I didnt pay silly amounts for the fuji one though, just a cheapy from Amazon and i'm very happy with it.

Took some finding but no.

In what way you trying to decide if you happy with low light performance?? AF or the overal IQ?

The 10-24mm is a great lens that I would highly recommend. Obviously mine is not for sale ;), we'll until Fuji brings out there F2.8 version :D

Both look OK to me and are very nice images. I think the Samyang looks crisper and more contrasty, but I prefer the colours of the Fuji lens (I've not pixel peeped, just commenting on the image sizes on here) However, I'm a bit baffled as to your comment about which lens handles low light better than the other???? Surely a lens doesn't have low light handling properties does it? Sure one lens can be faster than the other, but that only influences the low light handling of the camera in that you can use a faster shutter speed. Also, you can't really compare lenses when you're using different settings. Obviously the aperture's not been registered on the Samyang but as the shutter speed is twice as fast I can only assume that the aperture is wider?

It was very strong until another rumor said that Fuji will be focusing on the F2 range of lenses. Your best place to look is the Fuji lens roadmap
