The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Why do people dog the 18mm so much? Seems to be a good little lens for the money. I've seen some reviews, written and video, where they made out it was a poor lens - Turned me off buying one at least. I have seen a few up for sale locally, and that kind of suggested it wasn't great too

Possibly because it was one of the kit options with the X-Pro1 and we all know that all kit lenses are dogs... Slight corner softness wide open - compared to kit zooms from the majors (18-55), it's not bad at all! 18mm is sort of a funny length, 27mm EFL is a wide angle but not very. IMO quite restrictive as an only lens to go out with and the zooms cover it with loads of flexibility. Certainly not a poor lens, just not (for many) the best choice.

Do anyone know a decent lens adapter to mount my Nikon AI manual focus lens? I wanted to mount my 28mm and 135mm AI f2.8 AI lens to my XT1.

The 14mm 2.5 has the same sort of reputation with Micro 4/3, pretty much the same effective focal length too. It's strange, because 28mm is reasonably popular on FF (particuarly the Nikon 28mm 1.8, used that one for weddings myself).

I'm considering the 18mm f2 and 35mm 1.4 at the moment, but as an early adopter (X-E1) once upon a time, they were pretty slow/grindy compared to the next batch, such as the 23mm 1.4, that came after them. I understand FW updates and newer bodies have improved the situation?

Cheers for that, I will look into this.

btw, do any of you guys use the Fuji leather case on your camera or go naked like a DSLR?

I have a K&F Pentax to Fuji-X adapter, seems well made

Naked but usually has an Arca L-plate on, which offers some protection (as I found when falling upstairs in a car park with X-T1 in hand!!)

I have the 35mm 1.4 and can say that stories about the AF are greatly exagerated. Try and find a video on YouTube about it, you may have to trawl through reviews to get to the "AF part".

Honestly, unless you're trying to track a bird in flight, it's more than fast enough... And honestly, if you ARE doing that with a 35mm, you're doing it wrong.

Believe it or not, we did actually manage to get sharp well focused shots before Auto Focus, even of Kids, Wildlife, Weddings, & Sports Events.:D:D

George.

Just a heads up folks,

Fuji are doing double cash backs from Nov 25th for anybody who buys a body and lens.

Balls. I knew buying a few days before Black Friday was a bad idea.

Any idea which bodies? The X-T10 is already silly cheap with cashback.

If I bought a XT10 body only then I will probably want to swear. But I got a decent deal on the graphite silver XT1 body only so I guess I'm ok on this one lol.

Do anyone know a decent lens adapter to mount my Nikon AI manual focus lens? I wanted to mount my 28mm and 135mm AI f2.8 AI lens to my XT1.

I did actually answer this for you in my reply to you in post No :- 22588, it was as follows.

If its of any help, the Ai-FX adapter I use is just a standard metal cheepy from fleabay. Works a treat with all my Ai/Ais and (D) lenses also any other attachments such as Nikon fit extension tubes etc. When buying one though make sure its one that will allow infinity focus as not all of them allow this.(y)

George.

Now updated :) cheers for the heads up.

Unless they've not announced it yet there is no double cashback promotion listed, just the ones that are running currently anyway.

The first adapter is just for Nikon fit lenses that have a manual aperture ring ie (Ai), (Ais), (D), type lenses..

The second adapter has a manual slide type button that allows you to use Nikon fit lenses that do not have a manual aperture ring ie (G) type lenses.

I take it I need the second one if I want to use both AI and G lens?

I haven't, but I've read it's more on high ISO jpegs. What I have found with Fuji is that you have to be very careful with the way you process the files compared to other brands and you can quite easily make them look unnatural. I do wonder whether those affected by it is more down to the processing rather than the images per se.

No probs on my xt10. Wasnt it only a problem with excessive sharpening combined with excessive NR?
