The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Is it to do with power saving mode? Does it go back to normal if you half press the shutter?
It's sporadic and only happens for a few seconds; but for what I use it for, a few seconds is the difference between getting a shot and missing it where missing it isn't really an option.

Kind of reinforced the point for me that I can't use Fuji for work. Which is a bummer.

Just viewing composing a shot.... both frozen a few times too. To be honest that's happened to every fuji I've ever had, which is nearly all of them.
Never happened to my XT1 but the angry photographer has a video on something similar and from memory it's to do with power saving. I can't remember if you can disable it though

I've got it in high performance mode.. but even then it's a glitch rather than something that's supposed to happen. Never mind. My Fuji love hate relationship continues..

OK, it must be something else. My EVF slows down when my camera is on standby but apart from this I haven't experienced any issues with the EVF on my XT2.

Why don't you send fuji an email about the issue? They are very good with firmware updates ;)

Yeah that sucks. Bit of a long shot but have you noticed a link to a type of battery (if you use 3rd party) or memory card? These things can cause weird glitches sometimes, as you know from the other thread certain cards can cause lock ups on the D750 for example.

It's only happened a few times to be fair but always with the right stuff in. I tend not to buy third party anything if I can help it.

Just noticed that it says the code is not to be shared, oops ;) Maybe it's just sent to those on the mailing list/has an account with them?
Just checked my mailbox and it was there ! The 56mm isn't in the promotion though :(

Hi Fuji chaps, Wanted to seek for some advice on purchasing a Fuji system. I mainly use Nikon D3 and D700 with pro glass. Sold my backup body D700 and generate some fund to buy a Fuji system for different purpose.

XT10 with 35mm f1.4 or Fuji refurbish XT1 with 18-55mm?

Both kit will end up to be similar price. Ideally I want the Fuji to act as backup as last resort if anything happen to my D3 as well. But in general the Fuji will be use for more casual stuff like travel, holiday, family, street shots etc.

Well the XT1 is a better camera and the 35mm is a really good lens. But as you are only going to have one lens will the 35mm be too close? So the zoom maybe a better offer or going for a couple of cheaper primes

The 35mm f2 is interesting and is much cheaper then the f1.4 version. I use 50mm on my D3 it is ok for what I want. Maybe I add a zoom in the future but I think a prime like 35mm is good. Is the 27mm actually any good? Reason I didn't consider the 27mm is because it got no aperture ring and is made from plastic I believe? I saw a silver version of the XT1 in the shop for a decent price which I'm interested.

In terms of performance in AF and picture quality there's nothing to split the XT10 from the XT1. Both have pros and cons and far as controls. I like the ISO dial on the XT1 but then I like the clickable control dials on the XT10 which mean that you can assign a function with the click and then immediately turn the same wheel to adjust. Not sure why they haven't added this feature to the XT2 tbh, really handy. The XT10 is slightly smaller and so arguably better for street, but then it's not weather sealed like the XT1 (which doesn't really matter if you're only looking at the 18-55mm and 35mm f1.4). I have both the 18-55mm and 35mm f1.4 and if I was to choose just one it would be the 18-55mm. Both are really good, but the 18-55mm is more versatile, has surprisingly nice rendering and image quality, and really light without feeling cheap. If only it was weather sealed it would be near on perfect.

I though the 2 dial front and back of the XT2 are clickable? Though that was one of the upgrade from the XT1? Could be wrong lol like always

Maybe they are, just not seen it mentioned?

Yes they are click dials.... :D welcome to the darkside! :D

Ahh I stand corrected then. Yeah, dead useful that, not sure why other brands haven't caught on.

Is it possible to alter the WB/hue/tint on the XT1 viewfinder and LCD as the colour is quite a way off how it shows on my calibrated monitors, the Fuji screens are much cooler. It threw me off as I changed the WB according to what I was seeing through the VF only to find that on my computer they are now far too warm. I then held the camera LCD against my monitor and the colour is quite different. I know on my Nikon I can tweak the screen and was wondering if I can on the Fuji? I've been through the menus but can't find it, only the option to fine tune auto WB. Bit of a nightmare if the screen isn't showing the right WB/colour compared to the final image :(

hmm, interesting. I definitely know what you mean. choosing the body is tough already but lens combination just complex thing for me hahaha. Maybe I'm reading too much on the web, I defo looking forward to see the actual body on Saturday to see which I really like.

Time for some more pics!

I was in Northumberland at the weekend and got out for a walk. Lovely colours, dark woods and it's definitely fungus season there!

Shame no exif love see what gears was used

Just got in, nice big package from Amazon, that'll be my new cam bag, mini tripod and Nikon to Fuji X adapter, should be some macro fun later on :)

Which Nikon to Fuji X adapter did you buy? I'm getting a Fuji soon and I need a adapter to use some of my Nikon AI manual focus lens.

Think cos I am a mac user?
I can see it using the EXIF viewer extension in Chrome on Mac. It does show the body (XT2) but not the lens, just the exposure setting.

If its of any help, the Ai-FX adapter I use is just a standard metal cheepy from fleabay. Works a treat with all my Ai/Ais and (D) lenses also any other attachments such as Nikon fit extension tubes etc. When buying one though make sure its one that will allow infinity focus as not all of them allow this.(y)

George.

Maybe I actually do need to buy the XT1 for weight and balance purpose. My Nikon AI 28mm and 135mm f2.8 prime might be a problem if I mount the lens and adapter to the XT10.

hmm,That means I can mount my juicy Nikon 85mm f1.4 to the Fuji. I'm gonna get the XT1 man. Defo need the extra weight and grip for stuff like that.

Can't believe I've had the XT1 for over a month and not taken the obligatory cat pic, so here it is

Lens and settings. It help to learn
Yeah, exposure settings can help, but for shots like those you're much better off looking at the way they've composed the shot, and the light etc. That's what's really made those pics imo.

Just testing something to see if I can figure out this oversharpening.

EDIT: That seems to work, the bottom one looks much better to me and more like it does on flickr. Are others seeing what I'm seeing or do they both look the same?

Royal PITA if I can't upload full res files to flickr for use on the forum :( Doesn't happen on AVF

The top one looks much better to me, better contrast, more detail [look at the hairs just by the tail and detail in the rug]

Yes I see the difference and your right bottom better but do like sharpness of top.

I think yis may get to specsavers lads :D

So long as you are comfortable with manual focus, you'll get the full res of the lens. The aperture ring is a bit ... short in range, hard to know what you're at, unless you really pay attention to the clicks [which are light/clicky] and even then it's a bit of a guesstimate. You know when it's wide open, you know when it's fully stopped down, but in between is a bit of an estimate.

This beasty 150mm is tricky to master manually [it's also twice the weight of the Fuji 55-200 and very front heavy on the XT-1] I think a much shorter lens will be a lot easier. But I mostly used this in manual mode even on the Nikon, so it should be just a matter of getting back into practice.

Cheers guys. Yeah strange how it's altered contrast too  I know what you mean about the detail, just looks too sharp to me. Different tastes and all that ;)
