The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

I've spent a bit of time messing around with the alternative software for the Spider4Express and you're right, it's not at all intuitive. I'm still not convinced it's actually made a difference in a good way. One thing to watch out for is that you absolutely should not have the spider 4 software installed when running the calibration with the free software -to do the calibration it changes the monitor settings, then the spider software notices and switches them back, then it takes a measurement, notices there's something wrong and tries again. It ended up with a 6 hour calibration (in express mode) that gave a horrific final colour setting!
What is this free software? I've just tried a spyder5express calibration and it was nothing near accurate, looked like an 85a filter had been slapped across my screen.

This is a collage of some work in progress. My main gig is illustration.
Here i am trying out a pop - up card, with a sketch for another project as a background.
I got a friend to breath vape smoke to give it 'atmosphere', but that
has been lost in the conversion.

I've got it bookmarked on the desktop. I'll post the links from there later tonight.

I'm not quite as up to date as you. I have a Spyder 3 Pro. I used it once and then ditched it. Colours after calibration were just awful. Any help would be appreciated.

Ha! Oh dear. Thanks for the warning! I'll mull it over..

Not the best of quality by far as its just a simple shot taken through a "Triple 7" window of the "Interstate 40" (Nashville) as we were just about to land.

Many thanks Peter, appreciate your comments.(y)

"I'm in the UK at the moment but I'm actually from the USA (Tennessee) and was raised in and around "Nashville". We now have a house & cotton fields at "Spring Creek" (Tennessee) which is roughly half way between Memphis & Nashville and I split my time about half & half between the USA & UK"

That's odd, colours on my monitor were awful before using a Spyder 3 Pro, just let it do its thang and sorted it out nicely.

Wonder why, maybe the type of screen, think mine is an IPS, wouldn't swear to it though

Do we just get used to our screens being out of whack I wonder? My Dell IPS monitor, calibrated by a Spyder Express 3 now looks a bit dull compared to my laptop

No idea what sort of screen it is. It's a Dell of some variety. Highly recommended on here.
Before I had this screen my other screen needed regular calibrating and I could tell the difference. With this screen the colours were so bad that I've given up trying.
I'm not a geek so the fine details pass me by!!!

Possibly or is your laptop too vibrant, tablets certainly are, have to say prints come out quite nicely and match pretty much what I see on the screen.

No geek myself, just followed the instructions and it definitely looked more realistic. Did have another calibration tool that just didn't work for me, but others thought was good.

Maybe we all see colours differently, I don't see noise in photos that some others do

I'll have a look at my screen once we've beaten El Spice. Trouble is it looks the same as it did 2 years ago. Maybe I've grown used to it. Colours look the same on both mine and SWMBO'S phones so maybe it's all OK.

I know it's been done to death, but if I was really happy with the X-T10 once upon a time, can I live with a couple of them knowing the X-T2 goodness that exists. I can't decide whether I should just go for it and upgrade.

I survived perfectly well without dual memory card slots, a nice grip with 2 batteries, 24MP and better AF prior to my D750, but now that they exist in Fuji land...I think I want them (particularly as a wedding shooter).
I was very happy with my XT1 and I m happier with my XT2. I ve upgraded mainly for the auto focusing system, the mega pixels and 4k video. The more I use my XT2 the more I can see that it is in a different league to my XT1.

Only you can tell if you really need/want the upgrade and if you do I m sure you will enjoy it :)

Mr Taxi is correct :-). "Vibrant colours" is a typical laptop "feature", and manufacturers deliberately over-egg them so that they look better next to the competition in the showroom. I think Apple laptop screens tend to be a bit more realistic, due to their popularity with graphics professionals, but I cannot say I'm speaking from experience there.

Good things come to those who wait.
I'll take him off my ignore list now.

Doesn't mean I won't be posting in here will it ha ha very funny..

I didn't say I wasn't getting a Fuji thou

MacBook Pro screens are very good from my experience.

I've looked at my monitor. It's a Dell U2412M. What does that mean?
Well after John "The future's bright; the future's Stones" gave away two goals in injury time, I'm going to bed in disgust!

Need a longer lens really for some moon shots

Non Supermoon by Chris Mitchell, on Flickr

Nicely done, I did a similar one earlier, just uploaded it, plus the obligatory closer up one :) IMO these ones are technically harder to nail, with some ambience. I find the zoomed in moon shots pretty simple. Just crop the bejaysis out of them and all you need worry on is if the moon is sharp

Very nice Keith, really liking the clarity on the second shot.(y)

I can just never able to do a moon image like that to get cloud in as if i did the moon is white out.. what the trick pls
You need just the right amount of cloud cover and then just get your exposure right.

I like that the X-T2 has proper back button focusing, the AF I'm not seeing much of a difference with single shot to the X-T1. It does grab focus faster when using continuous AF, I've not used it enough to see if it does track better (I never found the X-T1 to struggle in this regard, it was more grabbing that initial focus). I was intending to keep the X-T1 to use alongside the X-T2 but that might actually be a real pain. The controls are very similar, but I keep pushing in the buttons for ISO/shutter speed when I don't need to on the X-T2, and then not doing it on the X-T1. Also the little AF joystick is useful on the X-T2, but obviously missing on the X-T1, then going back to the X-T2 I hit the joypad buttons which are assigned to functions now rather than changing AF point as I use them on the X-T1, confusing!

It's early days still though. I'm a bit underwhelmed with the X-T2, in that I was expecting more based on what I had read online in comparison to the X-T1. It's still obviously a very nice camera, but kind of wishing I had waited for the price to drop before picking it up now.

Yeah it was behind cloud when I shot the wider one, and I pretty much pulled highlights back to 0 in post, and upped exposure for the ambience. This was also helped by shooting at 1/4 ISO 200, if you used an ND filter it should be even easier
