The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Another great shot Ash! How long does it take to process these?

Thank you.

Not so long now, but the first one took a while to get as I wanted! Then I saved the settings as a preset, so now I apply that and then tweak from there. The St Pauls one actually took a little longer because the building itself is predominantly white and the settings rely on pushing the highlights and whites to build the desaturated, contrasty look - so the building was really blown out after applying the preset. I had to pull it back with some local adjustment and actually dehaze was my best friend in bringing the details back, but retaining the overall feel.

Monday the 14th wee will see the biggest and brightest moon in a hundred years. Let's hope for a cloudless night
Yeah, that's my birthday! I'd like it on a stick please.:D

And how exactly are you getting this monochrome with colour???
Lovely effect

Selectively desaturating the colour channels, rather than globally - this preset leaves the red, orange and yellow channels at around the +60/+70 mark and the others around +20/+30, combined with the high highlights and white point helps create the overall effect.

And thank you for the kind comment

Is the 50-140 lens that much better than the 55-200 it just that I seen some great images taken with the 55-200 and is that lens a good lens compare tot he cheap nikons and canons??

Just practicing for Monday, although I appear to have sold most of my long glass! Anyway, here's my X-T1 with a 1960s M42 mount Tamron Nestar 400mm f/6.9 with 1.4x Kenko DGX Pro 300 teleconverter:

DSCF5032.jpg

At 840mm equivalent, cropped output is still greater than full HD :D I've just remembered that I picked up a Tokina ATX 300/2.8 and 2x teleconverter a while back as well, that will give me a more appropriate 900mm reach :D

They will both perform exactly the same unless you buy a camera to put them on :D

Not so much telephoto, more telescope! Do you need to support the far end? That's a lot of leverage...

Hope you've got long arms to reach the focus ring!

Haha, fortunately infinity focus is exactly where it should be!!

OMG never seen anything like it.. Did a cracking job with the moon thou

Cheers! I had a Fujinon EBC 600/5.6 before, but that was a real monster to handle!!!

I really need to unscrew and rescrew the rear mount so that the tripod mount is in the right position,,. :)

The lens is really light being f/6.9, so it just sits there OK when the body is attached to the tripod. I've always been impressed with this old lens, it's supposed to collapse down for travelling but that part has, well, seized :D

Is a used XT10 with a 16-50mm lens for £375 a good buy.. Box and excellent condition..

A good enough price for you to see if you really want a Fuji.

Little bigger than pocket-sized huh? :D

I've ordered an adapter for my XT-1, mostly to use the Sigma 150 macro I have left over from the Nikon gear, but I will no doubt be hunting down some old AI cheap glass for fun too

This was my best moon shot, well, this type of moon shot at least, I do like further back, from the ground moon views too. Won't post the image as it's not from a Fuji: Used the Nikon 300mm F4 + 1.4 TC. The D800 was very forgiving for heavy crops. The one thing I will miss.

Just my thinking but the lens not in the same as the 18-55 which is a better lens

It is, but my X-T10 and 18-55 was a bit more at £540.

It's a decent price imo. You could even sell the lens and upgrade that which would give you a cheap X-T10 body.

I don't think you'll be happy with the 16-50mm Andy in all honesty. The 16mm at the short end is welcomed though, Shane they didn't make the 18-55mm a 16-55mm f2.8-4, but then they need to sell the 16-55mm f2.8 ;) Bloody businesses trying to make money

It might be worth hanging on for Black Friday, even here in the UK. I got my X-T10 and 18-55 for £650 (and then £100 cashback I think) at that time last year, which was considerably less than the going rate at the time. About £100 less IIRC, but don't quote me on that. :-)

That's a nice capture! There's plenty of nice old Nikon glass around :)

They are both very good lenses. The 16-50mm has a slower max aperture though and is lighter / more plasticky with no aperture ring. Image quality is very good though and it will balance a little better on the X-T10.

I too have heard that the 16-50 is rather better than its reputation, and certainly I've seen some good pictures taken with it. The 18-55 is probably a shade better, but it's not night and day and there is the extra width with the 16, which is nice. I wouldn't place much weight on the "better balance" argument though. Especially not coming from a man who hangs a telescope on an X Series camera :D. More seriously, the handling of the 18-55 is perfect for me once I put an L bracket on the body. I wouldn't give it a thought.

I don't think the 16-55 2.8 is really worth the money tbh, when you could have the 18-55 and the 56 1.2 for not much more. But then, I rarely shoot very wide.

I agree. But I think we're talking about the XC16-50 here, a very different beast :-)

Haha, very true!

There's actually no good reason NOT to shoot the moon handheld, because of it's light, you can use pretty fast shutter speeds. Though I did shoot it at 1/60 earlier, only because I was testing the OIS

Yup, the sunny 16 rule for daytime works pretty well as moony 11 for moon shots!
