The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Early days, but getting to know this XT-1 pretty well already. I already know what I don't like - that fiddly little direction pad [one of very few things that might make an XT-2 worth the moolah], the flappy-crappy SD card door, don't much like the battery door either! the eye cup - but I plan to get a better one that will block out more light, and the fact I keep accidentally switching to different metering and bracketing when changing ISO/Shutter speed - yes, I am a fumbling idiot :D I'm just used to the bigger bodies, and it'll take some time to adjust. And the RAW file handling in LR, as it's my favorite software :/ But I did know it was a bit sketchy before I bought the cam. I'll figure it out.

What I like: everything else! :) I think the ISO capability might out-class the D800 even, it's pretty good, I didn't like going near 3200 on the D800E, I loved using it on this this evening. One thing I never used on the Nikon, was Jpegs! I've been shooting in Jpeg all night with the XT-1, and there's a kind of pleasure about it, the files load up much faster of course, and I'm finding they can be pushed about a fair bit in LR, it has no trouble with them, they look really nice.

I think I will need a grip though, and work out what flash system i'd like for it.

Have to agree about the D pad especially coming from the Canon joystick and the iso adjustment with the locking button, much prefer the menu based system on the X-E2.
Not bothered about the SD card door, only use it to change the card and mine stays firmly shut, ditto the battery compartment door.
LR6 seems to handle the RAF files pretty well, only had version 3 before and that wasn't great plus everything had to be converted to DNG

The extended eye cup is definitely worth getting plus spare batteries, now that it is one thing I dislike, battery management or lack of. One minute two bars then big red battery symbol and goodnight Vienna, switching off and on does give you one more quick shot if its urgently required

Had mine over two years now, yes there are things that could be better, but all in all still very happy with it and no thoughts about a replacement, can't be bad

Thinking a mono conversion might suit the first one.

Might be worth a punt M8, why not give it a go?, still think it looks real good as is though.(y)

Hey !! has anyone else noticed just how extra popular this thread as become recently, could it be somethin' to do with the X-T2 I wonder ? There does seem to be a whole lotta folk investing in the Fuji-X system since its release and doing away with their DSLRs.:)

Hi folks,

I am still on the fence about giving up my Sony setup for Fuji, has anybody moved from Sony A7II/A7RII to a Fuji XT-1/2 and having doubts about the move?
I know I'd be losing the FF DR/ISO abilities, IBIS, Eye-AF-C, any other negatives?

Cheers,

Riz

Chris has. He just posted he tried the Sony again it's in the classifieds

I thought it was because I turned up....

Must admit I hadn't really put it down to that, "Wonder if others think that's the reason" ? :D

I can't understand why the various models are all in the one thread. As an X-T10 owner I'm interested in reading about the other models but can't help thinking that any X-T10 issue would soon get swamped by the XT-1/2 posts.

It's not all Fuji, it's just the XT models. XP's and X100's have their own threads. I don't think it'll get swamped, if people know the answer I'm sure they'll help.

The SD card door bothered me at least twice yesterday. When i had taken the card out to transfer to the laptop, I left the door open, went to pick the camera up and hit off the door, felt like it could snap off easily. But, like you say, people have these bodies a couple of years now and we don't hear of anyone knocking the door off. I hope I'm not the first! :)

The battery door just feels crap towards dslr ones, but it's a very minor gripe on that.

I bought mine used and it came with 5 batteries and 2 chargers, which is nice :) I can have 2 on charge at any time and 3 full. This has me seriously considering a grip to make good use of them.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I have been looking for an out on FX dslr for a while now. I've eyed up a lot of the mirrorless offerings, but none really took my fancy enough. Having owned the X100s, X10 and Fuji bridge cams over the years, I knew what to expect from them. I just needed to be swayed a little more. The XT-2 definitely had an impact on this surge IMO, as the prices for used XT-1 fell, with owners trying to off them to upgrade. I got a good deal on mine with extra batteries and an extra charger, I also found a couple of lenses going for great prices, it all fell into place.

I just switched from a D800E, it's about as big a jump as any. I'm completely satisfied thus far. There's things I will miss about the Nikon, mostly ergonomics and control layout. Hard to beat, just felt so right in hand. But I won't miss the heft of that camera plus Nikon fast glass, nor will I miss those massive RAW files that used to slow my i7 laptop to a crawl if I had a couple hundred to process. In terms of end quality, I'm not feeling like I will miss out on anything. Delighted with my testing of the XT-1, it has me shooting Jpegs more, feels like a new challenge :)

Nah Brian, there all just as welcome on this thread and there all 1st class cameras.(y)

And if you maybe take another look at my post it does say, "Has anyone else noticed just how extra popular this thread as become recently". Which it has.

George.

I see the XT10 as pretty much a smaller XT-1, so of course it should be included here. Apart from physicality, they are the same thing right?

Think it's all down to the hype of the T2. Smaller, lighter, cheaper than full frame bodies. And lots of folk seem to like shooting solely in JPEG and using the film simulations. No processing so an easy life.

Is there anyway of getting aperture now that's is discontinued?
I didn't realise that you couldn't get it anymore tbh :(

The X-T10 and X-T1 are pretty much interchangeable in any discussions, they essentially have the same internals, any X-T10 issues you have are likely to be relatable to X-T1 owners as well.

Think of it more as a DSLR stylee of the X-E2, even the user manuals are interchangeable apart from the auto and that's on the X-E2S

This. Us X-T10 owners are in the minority model wise, but this thread is if interest for so many other features such as the interchangeability of features between the X-T1 and X-T10, processing and software tips and not to forget the lenses which are cross compatible with all x series cameras.

Just getting to grips slowly with the XT-2, pretty pleased with the AF so far, impressed with the 55-200 too

Just got this lens myself for the XT-1, going to head out and give it a run today. Of course it's raining ... Nice shot and lovely doggy btw :)

Thanks for the comments guys.

Took a whole bunch of shots in the mist / drizzle and the lens performed really well, very impressed.

Previously I had only used it once at a motorsport event but just wandering around some fields with it the range proved just as useful, had nothing in particular in mind to shoot but came back with a lot of keepers.

This has probably already been discussed in the past, but what's everyone's settings for the XT-1? For Jpeg obviously. And if you're not using Lightroom, what RAW processor do you prefer?

When I don't use Lightroom (the latest version of which is pretty good) I like Iridient.

I have Lightroom 5 [5.7.1] and it is legit. But can't find any offers to upgrade it, looks like I'd have to buy 6 fresh .... bah

What about in camera profiles for jpeg? What do you use? I can't decide which of the defaults I prefer, or how best to personalise them. I suppose that'll come with experimenting.

If you are only shooting JPEG then why would you need to upgrade?
Also I have LR5x and that reads RAW files from X-T1 no problem.

I like to shoot RAW, been doing so for years. Jpeg is nice and quick, but I still want to shoot raw for say, landscapes. I have tried a few, was a bit sluggish, but I'm hearing 6 handles them better. Also 6 has the new dehaze' function that looks cool. They should do deals for people to upgrade. I mean, i could just .... find it somewhere

If you like Lightroom, as I do, why not go for the CC subscription model? I really don't understand people who spend thousands on a good camera and lenses, then go for pirated software complete with viruses.

I agree. The CC package is a bargain. You can usually find it for £6.57 per month for first year and it's still good value at the sub-£9 per month standard price considering you get full Photoshop too with regular updates to both.

There was a deal to upgrade...once. Think it's been stopped. Stand alone will no doubt be phased out very soon so Stephen's suggestion is the best route.
