In all fairness, the X-T1 and X-E1 used to do that.
 
If you want to call yourself that then feel free[emoji3] Its going to take time to get used to with you coming from a different system. Just takes practice. You have CH and CL on the dial then wide tracking, focus zone then 5 different tracking types so its getting the right combination along with shutter speeds and iso on top. It will work just finding the right settings for the right scenario.

Sorry. My mistake. I thought two year olds were toddlers. But even so it's unlikely he was moving at warp speed.
With all due respect to yourself and your child almost any camera can capture that. Even a mobile phone will do it.
Read all the advice you have been given, carefully, then try again. It will work.

No I wasn't calling you a t*** I meant, not a pillock I prefer the term t***.

And yes I am fully aware it's my issue I think I said I set the camera up wrong and I suffer from a little shake as well at the ripe old age of 34 so I just need to sort out what is best etc. I assumed it was all good till I got home. Bloody lying 3" screen lol
 
Trying to decide between the 35mm f1.4 and the f2. Probable uses will be portraiture and various street photography where I wouldn't need the faster AF of the f2 but also I may use it for video, although I do have the 18-55 with OIS for that.....

Any help would be appreciated!
 
I've just sold my 1.4 to @jimmyjamjojo on here. Yes it is excellent. Sharp as can be. And I too never found it slow to focus.
There's one for sale in the classifieds at present. Not mine but I know it's been well looked after.

There are indeed, of which I'm one of them, I've actually got a couple of my own now.:D

I gave them a good work out at the qualifying yesterday, using just the X-T2 units but had my usual DSLRs to hand. No problems whatsoever and I was so impressed with the X-T2s performance yesterday that today I have left the DSLRs at the hotel and will start shooting shortly solely with two battery packed X-T2 units.(y)

There's noise present at all ISO, even on full frame however you have gone from one of the best noise handling FF cameras to an average noise handling APS camera so you will notice more noise. It is therefore even more imperative that you get the correct exposure. As for the high ISO high shutter settings I can only guess that the camera is not set up right. Knowing how much you paid attention to the manual with your Nikons it wouldn't surprise me ;) :p

Were you trying to use AF-S again to track said moving child? IT does take a while to get used to how a camera 'behaves' and how to get the best from it. From what I have read the X-T2 needs some setting up to get the best AF tracking, unlike the D750 which works straight out of the box.

Are you ever able to share your pics George (sorry can't remember what you said before) as I'd love to see them, and it'd also be interesting to see the action shots with the X-T2?

As a company we shoot every F1 event for two teams that we are contracted to. Not always by myself as I have other business interests, but staff members and some well established and trusted freelance togs scattered around the world that I've got to know over the years. I usually put myself on around six - eight meetings a year. We try to have three photographers at each meeting.(y)

Lol cheers! Of course I've not looked at the manual yet. But in all fairness it's because I've been a little busy. Not because I didn't want to.
I'll look at some videos tonight and have a good look.

As for the focusing I actually did C for once in my life.
 
I'm really doing this the Oirish way ... I now have a 27mm 2.8 and a 55-200 lens in my possession .... and no camera :D

Done very well on the lenses, both are mint, and got them for €640 total :)

Panning while the subject is travelling close to parallel to your track of pan (or whatever you call it!) isn't hard for AF - it was one of the few things I was quite good at in MF days, although I tended to have a fairly small aperture to get slow enough shutter speeds to blur the background. Keeping that Hawn in focus as it was heading straight towards you would have been a better test of the camera's AF performance, especially over a several shot burst.

It does look more graphite in the flesh TBH. Still very nice, but I wish it was as silver as the pics make it.
