The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Loving the colours, was this SOOC JPEG or RAW, if it was RAW did you do much editing? :)

RAW, but very little editing in LR.

Camera Profile Velvia set in LR
Vertical Transform -26 as I was at an odd angle!! followed by a crop
Clarity +36
Vibrance +24
Saturation +17
Sharpening Detail 100

That's it, normally I wouldn't push Clarity/Vibrance/Saturation so far, but the image really let itself to being pushed.

Thanks Frank, most kind and may well ask you a few more questions nearer the time, can't beat local knowledge

That 1st class offer is pretty good, might make use of that, got the last tickets in one of the Virginia East Coast ticket sales, ended up two quid cheaper than 2nd class.

If you ever need similar guidance with Cambridge just let me know, not quite on the scale of Liverpool though, but very pleasant

Cheers
Rich

Not sure if you have booked anything yet Rich, my wife had to go the eye hospital in Liverpool and the Liner Hotel was recommended to us. Great location next to Lime Street and a nice clean hotel with good food and free parking.

Used X-T1's now £40 off at MPB. Cracking buy already and clearly plenty in supply.

Great stuff. The 90mm is such a good lens.

It is a beaut that's for sure. It's the kind of lens that on paper isn't too versatile, but I find excuses to use it due to the amazing results it can yield. Part Ex'd my 56mm 1.2 for it a while ago and haven't looked back. The extra reach is good obviously, but it focusses much closer than the 56mm did, which is really handy. (that was my main issue with the 56mm... that, and I personally didn't really like the 'soap bubble' bokeh of the non-APD version).

So what do you think is coming in the new firmware?
What new firmware?

Edit: just been reading about it on Fuji rumors, no info as yet. Any chance they'll improve AF performance to close the gap on the XT2 or do we think the XT1 has had all the AF improvements it can now?

Just read that, I hope there's something more, that's more than a little dull

I'm loving many of the images I've seen here in this thread - thanks to all who have kindly shared.

I really enjoy the colours Fuji produces. That said I also loved the colours my Canon gave me at the previous weekend but I do believe Fuji renders skin tones a lot better than Canon.

For now though, I'm, going to hold off ownership of the X-T2 much as it pains me to say so. My hands on research at Calumet revealed some exciting images but also tracking issues and AF problems in low light. Being relying on that shot of the moment I just could not take the risk of not producing for my clients. Thus with heavy heart I have to pass up on the X-T2 for the moment. Perhaps some enthusiast who had a good play with the camera before me changed the AF case settings. There wasn't the time to check everything. Or perhaps DPReview had a point worth making ( from my POV it must be said ). Whatever, it's not for me right now as I have a number of low light shoots coming up and Fuji are not that well-endowed in that area especially at the ultra-wide end. Rest assured though I am determined to go mirrorless for the sake of my shoulders as much as for the lovely colours Fuji produces. There is much about the Fuji that I like, not least that scintillating 50-140.

I'm hanging around this thread for obvious reasons ;)

Y'all take care now :)

You researched it well and found it didn't meet your needs. Hope that future Fuji iterations manage to resolve the shortcomings. Stay tuned!

As per fuji rumours, an update to get the i40 flashgun to work with the XT2

Just read that, I hope there's something more, that's more than a little dull

That was specifically for the X-T2 though, and they separately say there's a firmware update for the X-T1 so I'd expect more than that. Only a day or so to find out though ;)

I won't change a system based on a very quick test. You have done the right thing. I bought my xt1 when I had my Nikon D800 and ran both systems for a month before committing myself to Fuji and selling my Nikon gear.

:agree: Absolutely, and I think most of the Fuji switchers on here ran two systems in parallel before making the full switch, those that don't seem to be the people that keep flitting between systems. IMO its takes a bit of time for the Fuji's to get under your skin.

I owned the D810 for around a year, the digital files can't compare (for ME personally) to the beautiful Fuji painterly artistic end results and colour palette.

My D800E has been parked up for a month now pretty much. It's only been used for a birthday party and a few garden macro shots. It's now up for sale while I battle with my 'mojo'. If it sells, I'm getting an XT-1 and some lenses, I don't think, I 'know' it'll get me out and about shooting more. If it doesn't, I'll Invest in a few cheap and cheerful light primes for the D800 and try get back into it. I can't afford to run both, I'm not a pro - I did do paid shoots when I initially bought the D800E, and it seemed a worthwhile investment at the time. But because of illness/injury I had to set photography back to being a hobby rather than a job. I think the Fuji system looks perfect for someone like me. We'll see what happens. Selling a D800E isn't an immediate thing, it could hang on local sale sites months without interest, or ... it'll attract the odd random serious shooter looking for an upgrade or second body.

The ones who sem to have greatest trouble in accepting the Fuji sytem are Nikon users. For some reason the majority of complaints and whinges on here are from Nikon users. Those from other systems, or who went straight to Fuji get along with the system no problems. Nikon users seem to spend their whole life bemoaning that they are no longer on Nikon whilst saying how much they like Fuji. Then they go back to Nikon, then come back to Fuji. And still they are unhappy.

Way to generalise ... I'm a Nikon shooter, but I actually started out on Fuji bridge cams. I would have no problem with Fuji now as they have improved a LOT ... I'm not tied to any make or model. I've used Sony dslr and compact cams on the side too, as well as owning a Fuji X100s couple of years back. No way I'd have bought a Nikon compact because they suck. I have a D800E because it's still one of the best camera on the market, it could be made by McDonald's and I'd still love it :D It's just too big for me to love these days, and Fuji are making all the right moves. i don't think I'd be too sad.

I'm an ex Nikon user, D700 and five lenses, who bought a X-E1+18-55 as a lighter carry anywhere kit and within six months sold the Nikon stuff and bought a X-T1 and a couple more lenses.. The thought of going back to Nikon has never crossed my mind.:fuji:

I bought into the Fuji XT1 after being a Canonite from the days of the 30D finally progressing up to the 5D MK3 and likewise ran the two for about a month before finally cutting my ties altogether.

MPB have 15 XT1's and 9 PRO 2's in their used section......................just saying :)

Thanks for you comments everyone

It was an enjoyable exercise and it would have been fun taking up Calumet's offer of a free two-day test drive. Apart from the tracking, one thing I did notice that was highlighted by the DPR report was when I was shooting with the 14/2.8. My subject was one of their very helpful assistants Andrew who kindly spent a good half an hour with me and on whom I placed the AF point. He was slightly in lower light compared with the background which comprised bags and other accessories. Andrew looked fine until I zoomed in on the image, some of which were slightly OOF while the background was sharp - four images were shot at f4 and f2.8. That rather made me wonder and certainly something I couldn't live with though I'm sure it will come right.

I'll certainly be on Fuji-Watch ;)

All my best wishes

Thought I'd set myself a challenge, on my way to the dentist this morning I brought my X-T1 and chose the XF35mm and shot it wide open at f/1.4 for all these shots, here's what I came up with, nothing exciting really, just to see what I could photograph within thirty minutes.

All shot on 1:1 ratio with classic chrome selected and NO processing whatsoever, J-Peg only, kind of arty/abstract captures, nothing serious;

^^^ this. I'm another Nikon user, there's some things I prefer with Nikon and there's some things I prefer with Fuji. I'm happy I found that Fuji landscapes edit better in aperture though as I wasn't happy with them in lightroom. Some people may not be aware of the issue with adobe and Fuji files which is why they dislike/give up on the system. Not a fault of the user, more so with Adobe and Fuji imo as they should have sorted it out by now. In such situations I completely get why people can be disappointed with Fuji, which is a shame because when you get the best from them they are really nice.

But people do settle into a system and don't always like the change. I've seen posts of folk moving from Canon to Nikon and complaining of Nikon and going back to Canon, vice versa, some going to Fuji and swapping back etc etc. I've not noticed that users of one brand slate other brands more than others, they're all as bad as each other ;:p
