The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

I thought the same (for both pics), he clearly has a better copy than my 55-200... Or he's a witch...
I had a XF55-200 over a year ago (sold it) and thought it was good, but this new lens is superb focus wise.....! Tac sharp it seems.

Mine is definitely not that sharp at 200, even stopped down letalone wide open. Keep hold of that one.

That is quite unfortunate as Fuji lenses are usually pretty consistent. My XF 55-200 is bang sharp from wide open, like Peter's. A really great lens for the money (I paid £180 for mine used).

It just about all fits in my LowePro Mini Trekker. Have to have one of the bodies lensless though!

Was my first ever bag and still have it and use it when I want to carry more than what fits in my shoulder bag :).

What's a good bag for the X/T2? I like a stylish bag, none of those old man fishing bag types! I've used the Manfrotto stuff before and that's decent enough quality but they never seem to make small bags that can fit the camera + lens and have space for a second lens! I also don't want it all in one compartment, I'd like the lenses to have separate compartments/sections.

Also considering I have the 18-55, what would be a decent prime for shooting portraiture and low light video?

Cheers

I am currently using this, expensive but fortunately paid less that half for mine in a sale.

I'm not a big fan of the ouzo :) But I'm sure we could work something out. And yes, we've been every year for three years now, usually around early September. I'll give you a shout when next I know we're going!

We'll be on the island around then - 3 days in Chania then a week in Agia Gallini and the last few days back in Chania. As happy with a coffee or an OJ as with an Ouzo or Raki.

Anyone tried the Meike MK320 flash for the Fuji? Looks a great small 'travel' flash with the all important (for me) bounce and swivel function. Reviews look favourable but wondered if anyone on here had tried one?

Looking for wide angle options, love the 16mm but with having a 16-55 it would be replication, have half an eye on a 10-24 but not sure I want to go that wide.
How does the 14mm compare to the other options? Appreciate its "only" f2.8 but nice size and from anecdotal evidence online it seems to get rave reviews.

As the still current owner of your old lens I can confirm it's still performing admirably! On phone, so can't provide pictoral proof just now!

I haven't, but I'm a fan of the Nissin i40 - compact and relatively powerful and with really accessible controls.

Worked fine for me on the X-T1, bit more power than the small flash supplied but not as much as the Nissin I40.
Very handy being able to charge the batteries in it via a micro USB, saves taking another charger for trips away.

Ended up selling it though as the ttl would not work through an off camera flash cord.

I sold my 14mm more than a year ago because I had bought the 10-24, in the brief crossover period that I had both I tried several test shots with both lenses and the 14mm edged it for quality but very little in it.
I've recently switched back because the 14mm wide enough for me and it's a heck of a lot smaller than the 10-24, or even the 16 for that matter.

Also consider the 12mm Samyang, I don't use it as much as I thought I would, but I have no complaints when I do. It's a sharp lens, it's very reasonably priced and works well for astro as well as landscape. I also use it for street stuff when the alleys get narrow, at times. (Having said that, if I were made of money I would probably have bought the 10-24). Here's a recent shot with the Samyang. It's difficult to do anything on this corner with the 18-55.

I have both the 14 from Fuji and the 12 Samyang and both are optically excellent. The Samyang really is great value and you just need to stop it down a bit to get really sharp results. The 14 is a resolution monster right from wide open

Back from Japan. No dead gear despite plenty of rain. The 35/f2 is undoubtedly a great lens, though I did find myself missing the 1.4-ness of the f1.4 a couple of times, and sticking with the flexibility of the 18-135mm in the wet, so I think the f2 won't stay too much longer in the herd.

Now just the little matter of sorting through 2,500 shots...

Chris

The good thing about the 10-24 is that it gives choice. You can choose any focal length you want and it's sharp wide open. I went through the same options and couldn't justify having a 'fast' wide angle 14 or 16 as didn't think I would ever have the need for that speed. I do only use the lens for landscapes though. So to sum up do you think you will ever need to shoot faster than f4 on wide angle?

How childhood should be :)

XT2 + 56mm

Started off with a Pan F 35mm preset and ramped the luminance of greens and oranges to give it a lighter feel.

As ever, CC welcome.

Thanks, the Nissin is quite a bit bigger hence why I've been looking at the Meike tbh. I've narrowed it down to the X20 (tilt only though) and the Meike, anything else it too big for travel. It won't be used much and won't be used off camera so not looking at spending a lot.

I have both lenses. Not a great deal of difference between them but the 14mm is obviously faster.
I'm re thinking my lens line up and might be tempted to sell on the 10-24. Always scared that I'll want it as soon as it's gone.
I used to be indecisive, but I'm not sure I am anymore.

I know that feeling! I now spend so much time thinking about changing my lens line up that I don't have time for photography! Current thinking is that I don't need the 16mm and might change my 23 for the f2 to reduce size and weight in my bag.

Could be interested in a 16mm if there was one going....!

In my experience I've found that I use a 24-70 (or 16-55) mainly at 4 points, the wide end (24mm), 35mm and 50mm which roughly equates to 16/23/35 on Fuji.

I would prefer a little extra width however a quick look through my Flickr tells me that something around 21mm (In full frame) is about as wide as I'd use so the 14mm looks like it would be ideal given the price although that extra 2mm of the Samyang would be nice (and its a steal at its price) I just didn't get used to manual focusing it, maybe I wasn't using the right focus aids on the X-Pro 2 though, a 12 and a 16 would be a nice kit!

After selling my X-Pro 2 and then the XT-2 I've decided that my best option is just to get another X-Pro 2, as much as there are some advantages of the XT2 I prefer the feel and handling of the XP2 and looking through my shots I probably prefer the output and rendering of the primes over the 16-55, if I can get hold of the primes I'm after (and just bought a 23mm) then the zoom will get moved on, nice as it is there's something special about the 1.4/1.2 Fuji primes.
