The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

True, I have the 55-200 so could spend some time with that set to 85mm and manual.
Strangely enough I spotted a tip somewhere earlier for shooting manual with fuji - the focus peaking can be hard to pick out when shooting colour, so shoot in mono with red peaking, then edit the raw if you want the colour version. :)

Try using white instead of red peaking when in regular (non mono) modes. It is actually easier to see most of the time, as it almost makes the areas on focus look extra crispy / sharp. I thought the focus peaking on the Fuji cameras sucked compared to others like Sony that I have used in the past, but I do find it a lot easier set to white instead of red, which seemed counterintuitive at first :)

You're right, totally unexpected but its odd, when you;re in focus it looks as you say sharper, its not obvious at all but you can more tell when its gone - to anyone else, just try it, I can't explain it for toffee.
I just tried both and I'm sort of split, the B&W + red (high) is more obvious but you loose all notion of colour (obviously), but the white on colour works well - funnily enough thats how it was when I got it, now I wish I'd paid more attention to Chris' settings!

Cracking pan, lovely and sharp with a smooth background, well done

Aye, it is the Samyang. Whats scary is I keep thinking about the 100-400, still maybe it will happen, just need to shift three lenses and a XT1 :D

Well to break from GAS for a moment (and to prove I actually use the stuff I buy!), heres a piccy!!

Misty morning

Lovely shot mate.

First proper outing and job today with the X-T2 and 100-400 at the last round of British Superbikes.

Great to catch up with my old mate Graham @yamahatdm900 and even better that we both had the X-T2's out for a play.

First time i have ever left my two 1D's and 300 and 500 primes at home in years but my back feels better for it.

Nice to see you bud and this shot just go to prove its not the camera but the bloke behind it.

So the question has to be how was it, obviously between you and the camera you can get some damn good shots but how was it for keepers?

G!en, that's a stonker of a capture at the 'BSB' race, pin sharp. Have you a Fuji Teleconverter etc? How do feel about the XT2/100-400mm combo.......?

Dont have the tc and still adapting to the X-T2 at the moment, its a lot better than the X-T1 but still not as comfy or confident in it as i am in the 1 series Canons and big primes although it did do fairly well.

They looked a lot better on the rear screen than they do after import and my keeper rate is well down on what i get from the 1DX MKII's but it is early days to be honest and after 10 years of using the 1D series bodies its going to be a learning curve changing but im sure it will improve with practice.
Blackout times are still a problem but are something you can adjust your shooting style to im sure but the smaller body and buttons do make it hard work over a complete day but the weight saving is a dream compared to what i normally carry.
Day two tomorrow so will see how i get on now i have a better idea of what its capable off :-)

"Cracking" shot Glen, I'm very impressed with the images your geting from the X-T2 setup.(y)

George.

Holy Moly..........that's Top Notch sports photography Graham, what shutter/f-stop was that set at for this awesome capture?

wOw

Pete

p.s.
I'm guessing the XT1 body wouldn't be confident of these sports captures ?

Thanks Peter thats was 1/640th mainly because it was head on normally I'm showing at 1/320 or lower. I struggled taking this sort of shot when I used the XT1 but others may disagree, I seen plenty of good panning shots with the XT1 though.

Few more with the X-T2 and 100-400

3's really cool. If you could clone out the vertical bit of fence from the centre frame it would be as stonker.

One thing that does bug me though is the fact that using 3 of the new type batteries in the camera you have to charge the two in the grip with the mains adaptor and the one in the camera through the USB 3 port.

Cant understand why they couldn't make it charge all three via either adaptor supplied with the grip or via USB connection.

Also found that the grip stops the screen being extended down fully for taking overhead shots looking down on bikes etc in pitlane as the bottom of the screen normally extends under where the grip fits.

White balance seems to not be as reliable but it may also be that i need to alter my post processing and import software use.

Its the side of the Honda BSB pit box so was a little hit and miss trying to get Jenny on the bike and the team boss in his Honda jacket in the same shot, bit hard to describe LOL :-)

I think I know what you mean. But I meant with some photoshop wizardry you'd be able to remove it (y) (If you wanted to of course).

I'm slightly tempted by that. Does it have a focusing ring or does it need a slider rail?
Does the adaptor come with it?
Sorry about the delay in this - as mentioned in the ad I'm travelling for a few days so only sporadically on the forum. Manual focus works perfectly and it has a tripod foot. To be appropriate, add this question to the thread and I'll answer and offer to throw in the nikon adapter for fuji. Please don't be offended if i am a bit random in answering between now and next wednesday though.

I've been stuck in the office all week with an X-T2 waiting to be used, so took it with me today. Here's a few from around Holborn.

I had to wait for the light to dim, so I had a coffee at my favourite Coffee shop...

These were all shot on the X-T2 with the 35mm f1.4.

I really am liking the T2, seems to do everything quite easily.

That's a nice set, I really like shooting when it starts to get dark :)

I feel your pain. I collected my xt2 on monday but only got to switch it on for rhe first time in the airport this afternoon. I guess it says a lot about either my faith in fuji or my stupidity that i brought a completely untested camera away with me and with no backup.

Defo your faith... To be fair, I had a panic moment earlier when I couldn't get the wireless to work, so I just assigned a button and it was fine....

Thanks for this - always interesting to hear comment and criticism from someone with a lot of experience in something a camera manufacturer has claimed to make big strides in. Here's hoping that from your point of view the change is about learning new ergonomics and not a limit of hardware!

As others have said, love the pics.

Adapter maybe, but USB is bound by regulation, and I think max output is 2A. Split between 3 batteries they'd take forever to charge.

I think that if Fuji were to produce a fast telephoto prime people would have more confidence. I don't have the 100-400 (yet) but I'm concerned how it will perform against my 7D2/150-600 Sport combo for wildlife, especially as the length is the important bit when shooting smaller subjects. I'm off to Scotland next month, and I plan to hire the 100-400 and converter to try it side by side with my existing set up.

@Nod you are always just too slow:p

Yup, I'm definitely built for comfort not for speed! I went back into Amazon and added an ExPro battery for the X series to the tubes to bring the order up over £20 for free delivery. Not fussed about it being next day, next week is soon enough!

Dug out my old D70 (with sticky grip and 7dayshop battery) to chop in against the X-T2 if the place still has one in stock. If not, I'll leave the D70 with them as a deposit against an order for the thing. "Oh, gods give me patience. NOW!"
