The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Just been reviewing my LR stats since getting my first X-T1 last year, and the most used lenses are:

XF 18-55: 1856
XF 35/1.4: 695
XF 55-200: 393

Anyway, I was shooting some pics at my son's 3rd birthday yesterday with the 27/2.8 and 18/2, conversions with RNI Ilford Delta 800:

Ok guys n' gals, very first image with the recently acquired X-T1 body. I admit this isn't that decent as the morning was quite dull/boring flat light, typical autumn in Central Scotland. Found this scene whilst driving home from working a nightshift.
Selected 'classic chrome', attached the XF10-24/4 and shot @ f/16 handheld. Not brilliant I know.... Shot in Jpeg.

Must agree with your sentiment. But if the results are good does it matter. I'm butt ugly too!

As my signature says, MATWSIJ!!! :P:P:P

I need to be shot from a distance with an FN rifle X-T1 to look like an oil painting myself to be fair on Frank!

I know it has no bearing whatsoever on its photo taking abilities, but that is one butt ugly mutha

It sounds silly but after weighing up all the main pros and cons, the deciding factor of me recently ordering a used 35mm f1.4 over a new 35mm f2 was the fact that I just really hate the shape of the 35/23 f2 lenses. Completely illogical way of thinking, as it has no bearing on the image....but I just can't get past it. Now if I didn't find a 1.4 for a decent price, then I would have have gone for the f2.

Did read something about the shape and lens hood partly being designed so it doesn't show up in the viewfinder of the Xpro 2 but don't know if that's the only reason for the design.

Question for those lucky enough to have compared an X-T2 with an X-T1 - how do they compare for viewfinder blackout when continuous shooting?

Whenever I try panning on my X-T1 it's a case of start the burst where I want, then guess the trajectory and speed as the viewfinder blacks out.Is the T2 any better in this respect? Its probably one of the few things making me reluctant to fully jump ship from my Nikon gear.

Went to Oulton Park with @Mr Perceptive a couple of weeks ago. Yes there is a blackout but it never affected either of our abilities to get the shots we wanted. It wasn't significant enough to ever cause comment between us. I never thought of it till I got home and saw another forum going on about it. The major problem wasn't the blackout but our inability to pan properly!!!

I've only had one real go at panning and it didn't bother me too much.
If you wander over to YouTube there a simulated version to give you an idea, but my understanding is that it's better and even better wit the grip.

Nothing stopping the body prices going up too !!!

At least Fuji had said the XT2 price was already higher than it was planned to be at launch in the UK, so it should be ok.

I don't actually have an X-T2 of my own yet Matt, but I have used a pre production unit for a while with the battery pack and the 100-400 attached while working at an F1 event, and then again with a full production unit at another F1 event. When in boost mode with the battery pack attached the viewfinder blackout was hardly noticeable if at all (virtually non existent). To be perfectly honest I preferred using the X-T2 to our normal DSLR units, as did a number of other regular photographers at the events. So much so that as soon as the X-T2 units are readily available we as a company will be switching to them completely for all of our motor sports photography.(y)

Hope this helps.,

George.

Just a simple shot of an "Aphid" will messing around with a bit of macro.

Lovely shot with the focus just where it should be.

I suspect I have the same issues!

Will give that a look thanks

Really helpful thanks

Really nice to see macro on Fuji and you got the eyes - nice.

One question if I may - does the 105 have a manual aperture ring or did you do the set and swap trick to get it to f11?

I notice the new 23 and 35 aren't in the offer.

Really? Would have expected the 23mm f2 to be missing as they often leave out their "latest" glass but the 35/2 has been out for a while now.
From what I read there's been a shortage of this lens, at least in the States.

Many thanks for that John, much appreciate your comments.(y)

"The 105mm Micro Nikkor that I have is a (D) version without stabilization and does have a manual aperture ring as do all (D) version Nikon lenses. The later lenses do not have a manual aperture ring"

Yay, no XT2 :)
Booo - 56mm £80 back - just got mine yesterday... Still it was second hand so still better off...

Haha, that'd be right :)

The X-T2 isn't included in the latest cashback list. However, I know one local retailer had at least one in stock a couple of days ago. Cash has flowed the right way recently...

GAS FOR PRESIDENT! (At least GAS only kicks you in the wallet and doesn't grope your Mrs!!!)

I'll probably wait until after commercialmas - the X-T1 does pretty much everything I need and 95% of what I want so can wait quite happily. Price might have dropped a penny or 2 by then as well!

Just tried processing the Fuji files in aperture, wow the detail is incredible, much better for landscapes. Strangely it doesn't render portraits anywhere near as nicely, mainly because it doesn't have the camera profiles. Adobe RAW in LR is equally poor for portraits compared to the Fuji profiles imo. So it's aperture for Landscapes and LR for everything else for me (y).

Never tried Aperture, always liked the way Irident processed landscapes though!

Just had a quick burst in continuous with the XT2 and 56mm and given I was at f1.2 I'm pretty pleased with the AF - my dog jogging back with the ball on the general AF setting, so nothing configured to speak of - 11/12 in focus before she came in too close.

I've always been a Lightroom user, and pleased with it. However, I've recently been trialling Iridient (being the open-minded soul I am) and whilst I'm not totally convinced it's better, have been sufficiently impressed that I've purchased a licence. Certainly I wouldn't have had I not discovered the Fuji presets they also supply. Only reservation is that I am not keen on the sky colours, but I shall work on that.

Dream on, baby!

At the moment, the camera is in short supply and high demand so prices are likely to stay high for a while. After this initial rush to buy, with a bit of luck shops will be overstocked after commercialmas so there might be deals around. Since the X-T2 was priced to take the poor performance of the £ into account, any improvement in the currency market might help the price to drop. Note the mights! I can always hope.

I had exactly those thoughts but decided that the waiting time for prices to drop was likely to be several months. The £ is being controlled by computers and twenty somethings who think that long term means next month so it will take some time for things to settle.
If you have the lucre you might as well use it. You'll get no meaningful return on your savings so might as well have the benefit of the gear.
You know you'll use it and you know it's a big step up from the T1 so why not? Coffins don't have pockets.

That was my thinking too, if I'd have waited (which I'm not good at anyway) I'd have been mumbling, whatever I loose on a future sale (hopefully not before the XT3!!!) will have been much cheaper than renting one.

I tried irident, silkypics and capture 1 yesterday and hated the interface on both. Irident feels like a cheap home made bit of software to me and the way it displays images in the window is awful imo. I thought Mac OS wasn't supporting aperture anymore so didn't try it but today stumbled across someone talking about using it with El Capitan so opened up my old software and it worked  I used to use aperture all the time and there are still bits/tools of aperture I prefer over LR. However, the lack of camera profiles, as well as grad and radial filters saw me move over to LR. On the whole I do now prefer LR, but for those odd Fuji landscapes I do encounter watercolour/painterly effect, or lack of detail in rocks I know I've got a back up it of software that will bring out all that Fuji goodness :D
