The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Isn't it about time somebody found a spurious fault with the new model? Usually something that can only be reproduced one in a million times under laboratory conditions.

Seriously though I'm glad it's proving so popular with the new owners, keep up the good work with the photos and reviews

If I used my T1 more often I would be very tempted, but just keep taking the E2 out with me, so it seems a bit pointless for now

Yeah faults:-

1) Flash Sync Cover on mine and @mickledores cameras were not a good fit
2) You can't put 'Format' on 'My Menu'

I tell those two are really killing me........:D

Can anyone get the format shortcut to work ?

Also doesn't help that no f*$ker has got an X-T2 in store. Went in to Park, Jessops and the various small independents in Oxford St yesterday and even the demo models have been ripped off the stands and sold!
I've had an email from Park telling me that my order will be the end of next week, which is good to some extent, as it lets me work of the excuse to Mrs J :)

I may take a 100-400 at the same time. I went out today and the longest I have is the 18-55, and I was left wanting when it came to the deer in Richmond Park..... But if I do that I MUST sell on some of my Canon gear, it makes no sense keeping a 7D2, 300 f4 & Sigma 150-600 Sport if I buy an XT-2 with a 100-400....

(Then there's the 6D, and all the other lenses.......o_O )

To say that I'm impressed with the X-T2 is an understatement. Despite all of the hype about the AF performance, I never believed it until yesterday when I took it up to my local Red Kite feeding centre. The X-T1 was absolutely dire when it came to tracking on those birds but the X-T2 never skipped a beat and even made my old Nikons look positively tame by comparison. The only AF issues I had were down to my sloppy handling rather than with the camera. :)

As for everything else, it's just as much of a joy to use as the X-T1 was and the inclusion of the AF joystick was the cherry on the cake. :)

Those are cracking images SI and looks like the tracking on the XT2 is a serious upgrade to the XT1 and a camera that we have all been waiting for.

Thanks Andy. :)

If you'd seen the look on my face yesterday while I was photographing the Red Kites, you'd have thought I'd won the lottery! I've never had any reason to doubt the image quality of Fuji's lenses and this camera really makes the best of them.

To all those dithering about a purchase of an X-T2, I would say having used one for a couple of days, it's a complete no-brainer. It really is like having a different camera.

Two things stand out:-

1) Speed, its a real step up on an X-T1 in just about everything, but most notably switch on, focus lock and writing to the card

2) ACROS - this is just amazing, its like having a new camera (I can see my self setting several different Acros custom settings), noise at high ISO is handled superbly, and using algorithms only available in the X-T2 and X-Pro2 (thats in-camera not in LR or any other film simulation) it creates film like images. For me I reckon it's going to cut down on a load of editing time, and I reckon that I will be using more JPEGs than I have previously. It really is quite superb.

To me, it's the step change in mirrorless that we all cried out for - Mirrorless has come of age.

:fuji:
Totally agree I had no intention of upgrading yet, but with the the £100 extra trade in from Fuji it's a no brainer.

They have offered 580 for my Graphite XT1 including the fuji promotion. I could wait for the prices to go down but so will the value of the XT1.

I've pre ordered from wex and they have said as long as I have ordered this month I will still get the £100 Fuji Promotion. Just not sure when they will get the next batch in and if my pre order will be in it.

Yes, just the same as on the Pro2.
Press and hold the trash button for at least 3 seconds, then whilst still holding the trash button in, press in the rear command dial. You then get a choice of which card to format.

Just to add that you have to be in playback mode for this to work :)

Can anyone remember what the XT1 cost on release, and when it was released :).

Thanks.

Just looked at my receipt and in June 2014 body only cost £999.99 from a well known high st photography shop

Came with a voucher that gave 250 quid off the yet to be released 18-135mm lens

The max you can set is +/-1 in the menu. So if you want more you use the exposure compensation dial. Set it on -3 in bracket mode and it will give you -2, -3 and -4. Same on the plus side. That way you can get a 9 shot HDR.

Well that seems very limiting, but I guess now I know I'll just have to adjust the exp comp dial each time.

Thanks.

You may have missed what Mickledore said, you can set up a +1 -1 exp bracket in the menu, and set your drive wheel to bracket, then you have an automatic bracket. But use the exp comp if you're on a tripod and want more range [emoji106]

A range of -4 to +4 is limiting? A 9 shot HDR is limiting?

No, being limited to -1 / +1 without having to adjust settings is limiting. It would be nice to have a wider choice without having to touch the camera. If I'm doing any bracketing, my camera will most likely be on a tripod, I don't then want to have to turn a dial, risking moving the camera between shots.

Besides, if I have to turn the dial each time between shots, why even bother setting up the bracketing in the first place, I may as well just start at -3 and turn the exp comp dial a few clicks with each shutter press.

Are the Acros simulation available to put on in say lightroom (or similar) or is it only in camera for the XT2?

No, the Acros simulation is available in Lightroom as well.
It is, but the output will be different to what the camera gives.
The noise>grain algorithm used for acros can only be done by the processor in the camera (currently, at least).
I suspect the lightroom version will get the tones right, but lack the "je ne sais quoi".

That's what I understood, I'm presuming that the other profiles are pretty straightforward so okay to use RAW.

Has anyone done a comparison that you know of? Would be curious to see.

There are some Acros examples on the web of LR v in-camera, I'm with a client today, I'll see if I can find the link in my PC history when I get back tonight

Bit of a long shot this.....
I've got a ticket for free entry into Beamish Museum. Planning on going tomorrow. Anyone else fancy a trip out now that the schools are back and the grandparents will have disappeared for the year!!!

Beamish museum ? As in Beamish stout ? Where there may be a chance of free beer ?

How does the high iso performance on the new sensor compare with the older 16mp?

1) Flash Sync Cover on mine and @mickledores cameras were not a good fit
Pinged an e-mail to Fuji about this and they are sending me a replacement FOC. They say it is identical to the X-T1 so no idea why they are coming loose. Let's just say the replacement won't easily get lost!

Personally I've not tried the sensor in the XT2 at high ISO but its the same as my X-Pro 2, found it to be very nice at higher ISO and I'd say a step better than the XT1

Yet another question from me guys...
I'm thinking of trying out some portrait experiments with a single flash (offbody) using my XT1.

Can anyone recommend a budget focused set up that would work, i'm guessing slave mode would be enough for me to play.

Youngnuo 560 IV's of III's with Youngnuo yn560-tx works a treat for me. You can get the lot on Amazon.
