The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

We can confirm, the X-T1 battery can be used but is not recommended to use for long periods.

I wonder what is a long period, seeing as the batteries dont last very long in the first place? I have 10 of the X-T1 batteries so hopefully I can use them.

This is what I emailed Fuji, and their reply is below.

Hi, I've pick up my X-T2 yesterday and would like to know if my X-T1 batteries with work with the X-T2? There seems to be some confusion online about this. People are reporting lock ups. Also I have two SanDisk memory cards, one is 90MBs and the other 60MBs. Can I use them at the same time in my X-T2, and will they run at their rated speeds, or will the faster card run at the slower card rate?
I look forward to your reply.

Dear Peter,

Thank you for contacting FUJIFILM UK.

We can confirm, the X-T1 battery can be used but is not recommended to use for long periods. This is because the new battery handles the heat much more efficiently than the standard battery and if possible, use the new battery. The two card slots are compatible with UHS-11 type cards, therefore the camera will utilize the full data transfer speed for both card slots.

The Fujifilm X World Team

So the guy on youtube that everybody hates was indeed right, he actually did a detailed video on why the batteries are different and the heat issues.

As the results of using the the X-T1 battery can lead to hard lockups I would not use them in the body. A lockup during data writing will lead to data corruption etc etc. The 'long periods of use' is pretty vague and not only based on time but apparently it is when the camera is being pushed.

Like I said, he may be annoying but generally he doesn't lie about stuff like this, especially as he's been praising the X-T2 for so long.

A real shame then, because I won't watch any of his videos again after his childish masked attack on other youtubers.

It seems being an arse and right aren't exclusive, who knew :)

Who was that? Never heard of that one.
If you like I'll tell you what to do, but no comeback to me at all.
I was talking about the angry photographer, ken wotshisname, I'll pass on your offer, it's bad enough SWMBO has me in her bad books so I can't afford to fall foul of the moderators on this forum

Do I win a prize for first X-T2 pics?!

A very quick walk through Richmond earlier this evening with the 35mm f2. As usual for me, jpegs have been used, minor LR tweaks.

A detail test shot below. I'm very very impressed with the level of detail, reminds me of the D800 output.

Gorgeous Fuji colours as always..

I'm really chuffed with the improved output, love the joystick (although I moved the focus point unintentionally a few times when hanging around my neck), handling is great and marginally improved. Happy with my choice.

Looking good to me Gregg, the mono shots particularly look very smooth & appealing.(y)

George.

Very nice. Ok, I'm getting this camera - now to sell a load of stuff! Nearly £1700 with the kit lens is NOT cheap........

Yep, that Acros is going to be well utilised!

Can you switch the joystick off? I have a feeling it's going to get on my nerves, just like the combined scroll wheel/d-pad of the A-7R did

Start looking for a kit lens now, they are a good and cheap s/h buy.

Just noticed that someone has opened a wanted Ad earlier for a 14mm...........

Some advice please guys. I switched from PC to Mac a few years ago and never got around to buying any photo editing software. So I have a load of images on a hard drive waiting to be done. I've read all the arguments about Lightroom not being good for Fuji raws ect, but looking at your posts I don't see an issue with it. Do I buy the standalone or subscribe to the cc version? With the standalone will I still get 12 months of update from time of purchase?

Lightroom is perfectly fine for fuji RAW files.
Once you understand the difference in pre sharpening an X Trans sensor file over a Bayer sensor file then there is no issue.

As for what to get, the monthly direct debits for CC are usually less than a tenner a month and support is continuous as long as you remain a paid subscriber

Another vote for Lightroom, works fine with my X-Pro2 files so can't see why it'd be any different with the X-T2 :)

I'd go with the subscription model, you can get Photoshop too and it can be handy if you need to do some full-on PP work. I'm not a huge fan of the subscription model but it's very reasonably priced in my opinion and you know what you'll pay each month rather than getting an unpleasant surprise at upgrade time.

Thank you gents. Looks like Lightroom cc it is. If you have any tips on getting the best out of Fuji raws it would be appreciated.

Speaking of Lightroom, just realised I'm going to need to get v6 to work on the T2 files. b****r!

Very nice captures. Great Fuji colours

Just received my XT2 and i am uploading a few test pics and LR 5.7 does not recognise the raw files.

I am amazed away how good this camera is compared to my old xe1.
Loving Acros film sim, the whole camera is very customisable to your own preferred setup

I'm out with mine for the first time. I normally convert my RAW files to DNG.Has anyone tried that yet?

Guys, don't be so stressy.

You can download the free cc trial for a month, which will give you enough time to save up for the Lightroom 6 upgrade at just under £60. Much better value imo

http://www.adobe.com/uk/cart.html?marketSegment=COM&editSku=65237623&promoid=KSPGJ

(Need to change "I want to buy" to upgrade).

BTW once you've bought the upgrade, you can enter the serial into your cc trial copy meaning you won't have to install it again. This will switch off cc features of course.

My X-T2 upgrade is on hold. I originally bought my X-T1 from the Fuji refurbished store, and mainly used it wide open with primes for the first year or so. As I used it more and added lenses I also started using lenses stopped down and there were sensor dust spots which didn't particularly bother me. Recently though I cleaned the sensor and one of the dust spots is actually a physical mark on the sensor :( I'm way out of warranty so stuck with text camera. I'm not willing to sell it with the mark and resultant markdown in price as it still works really well for me and I can live with it. So I'll wait until the X-T2 drops in price and keep telling X-T1 as a second body. I really really need to get around to selling all my Canon gear as well....

Worth asking Fuji for a quote via the support website. Wifey's x-m1 repair was a fixed cost of £100, regardless of fault (I think, they simply replaced the insides and gave the camera a years warranty).

I had to upgrade to LR6 to work with my X Pro 2 raf files, I've imported several raf files from my X-T2 with no issues (and converted to DNG)

Well Houston, we have a problem.
Just been out on a shoot with @Mr Perceptive.
Two cards in place. #1 set to RAW. #2 set to JPEG.
Previews and reviews of either card showed an image that corresponded to the Film simulation that I had chosen. That was always the case with the X-T1.
Came to download and as above LR 5.7 will not accept the files.
I viewed the files in Fastsone Image viewer and even though I could see the RAWS the JPEG processing was showing. I went from there to CS6 and that would not recognise the files either.
No updates available for CS6 or LR5.7.
Maybe if I upgrade LR to v6 then I could see the files there, but they still cannot be viewed in CS, so initial processing could be done, but more detailed work cannot apparently be done.
Looks like it's either subscribe to CC or nothing.

And another thing.....be vary careful of the little plastic screw cover on the front of the body. Both @Mr Perceptive and I have lost ours within minutes of starting to use the cameras. Letters are going off to Fuji - the cover on my X-T1 has never even looked like coming loose.

Update...
Just discovered that despite setting the menu to shoot RAW/JPEG both cards are full of RAF files.

This is going to take some sorting out.

My front screw cover fell off when I took it out the box, I heard it drop though so now firmly screwed on which took ages with my eyes and big hands!

Let us know if you get the jpeg raw thing sorted, yesterday I was shooting jpegs to card 1 and raw to card 2. Haven't checked card 2 yet but will do tomorrow
Edit: set my cards to jpeg+raw and I used card 1 on LR which were jpegs, although the camera setting doesn't say which card gets which file type.

Be interesting to know how you set that up. I thought the only option was RAW to #1 and JPEG to #2. So maybe I've missed the correct set up procedure.

I was told by someone in Camera World yesterday that "they", I assume he meant Fuji, had insisted that Adobe made LR and PS ready and available in CC before the camera was released. Everybody else, C1 and the rest, will likely follow on in due course but for the time being you may well need CC. Dunno if they are likely to update LR6 standalone. He recommended I subscribe if I buy, and almost had me convinced, there's the months trial of course to get you out of the immediate fix. It all looks like extra money is required on top of the high price for the X-T2, first for new batteries, then for something that might process RAW, he also suggested some pretty expensive cards if I wanted to make use of the available speed.

Just checked card 2 and they're jpegs as well?!!!

So both cards have written jpegs despite this setting;

Although I was on film simulation bracket so maybe this means jpegs only to both cards? Obviously don't want to read a manual [emoji38]

I had that setting and both cards are RAW. Something else must be in control. Wonder what it is?

Edit, not with the bracketing though.
