The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Hi Guys.

Does anyone get a 'read error' using the XT10? I first thought it was me not formatting the card after importing photos onto my computer. But the last time I know I definitely formatted the card (in camera) and have used it a few times (not taking the card out in between) and now I get a 'read error' message on the first image I took. I also had this with my XE-1. I've heard rumors it's something to do with using apple computers, but I need some help with this as it's driving me insane.

Can't say I've experienced it so far, though I will say I don't use an apple computer. Is the error showing on your Mac rather than the camera then?

Have you tried a different card? Not sure about Macs, but I know in the past (with other cameras), images manipulated in Windows (JPGs rotated etc.) became unreadable in cameras once the card was popped back in.

As it's the "Queens" birthday celebrations etc I thought I'd post these two shots.

I had one the other day. I'd taken about 250 shots, and only one of them had it. I was able to take more photos, I just couldn't view it. Fortunately, it worked fine on the computer.

You mustve been very close! I like detail shots like these.

Many thanks for that Sir, appreciate your comments.(y)

"Pretty close indeed, but in fairness these were shot of the guards on duty at the sentry boxes outside in Horse Guards Parade".

George.

I like both of those. Really different.

Many thanks for that Russell, appreciate you stoppin' by and commenting.(y)

It's showing on the camera. Even after being formatted in camera, hence why I believe its a camera related issue rather than apple issue.

I have tried other cards yes, but they're all the same type.

Mines a Kingston uhs-ii, cant remember exact model. Mine was fine after format, no problem since.
Also, I dont use a mac.

Yes it happens on my X-T1. Mac OS tends to dump stuff onto cards that I believe causes the issue.

The cure is simple for me and I hope for you too. When putting your card into your Mac simply write protect the card. On removal remember to write enable the card before putting it back in the camera. If you do forget the camera will tell you as soon as you turn it on.

Hope this helps.

Nice idea, I always forget about the write protection.

Nice one. I'll try that. But surely formatting the card after putting back into the camera will wipe any of the files dumped by OSX? I still get read errors even after format.

That's a fair point. I've not had that issue so can't really comment.

Must say I've never experienced any issue with my Mac depositing any data onto memory cards.

Took my X-T1 with the 100-400 to the zoo today. I really need to sell a lens as I also have a long Sigma on my Nikon and can't afford to have the duplicate range. I'd just about made up my mind the Fuji had to go when I had a great afternoon at Chester Zoo. The light weight was a real bonus and I was very happy with the picture quality. I've got little faith in the camera / lens for a fast moving target but for the relatively static zoo animals it seems to work well.

There's a few more in my thread in the animal section here.

One from last week. Muker in Swaledale. An 11 shot pano blended in PS CC with automatic content-aware fill.

Thanks George. I never tire of this view.

After a quick chat with @jimgallaher about my newly acquired 27mm prime, I'm gonna look at getting some extension tubes for a dabble in the world of macro.

Any recommendations on the non-official Fuji tubes?

Cheers

Ian

After a weekend of intensive X-E1 usage, it was a breath of fresh air to be using the XT1 again today! So effortless in comparison! When the X-T2 comes out I think I'll be getting a second X-T1 and converting that to Infra Red, The E1 gives great results and all but it really feels like hard work making them.

what are the most obvious advantages of the XT1 Alan?

Although all four are good I think the second pair are better than the first. The second one of the second pair is such a beautiful natural portrait that if it were mine I would crop it to a portrait orientation, get a quality print done, put it in a very nice frame and display it in my lounge.
