The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

That's a very clean looking lens.
It's pretty spotless and the wife hasn't noticed it's not a Fuji so it can't look old [emoji23]

It didn't come with a case or rear cap but I can live without or sort for pennies anyway.

Posted earlier in the thread mate, but here you go.

I saw that but couldn't find it! Hmm.. Here's the seller's pic of mine:

Looks very clean also! Does the 44m-4 have the manual / auto switch or will you need to mod it to allow you to stop down?

Think it must be the day of the Helios today Duncan I ordered one this morning. Good news it's been posted 1st class and should be here tommorow. Bad news the adapter I ordered from Amazon is expected 28th June!!!

Same here, Andy. Mine "might" arrive tomorrow if I'm lucky. I already have an adapter so good to go there.

I would still be waiting to use mine if some kind soul in Glasgow hadn't given me an adaptor as the one I ordered is still en route from China!

I think not. Needs modding. 44-2 and 44-4 are early ones. Late 80s to early 90s?
First two digits Of the S/N will tell you the year of manufacture. Mine is a 79 :)

The mod looks easy enough anyway tbh.

For me, it's about experimenting with classic lenses to see what they are capable of...some are really quite old! However, occasionally a real gem of a prime will be uncovered - and for very little outlay :) For example, a Pentacon preset 135/2.8 can be had for about £40.00 and will give you a nice fast, long prime with beautiful creamy bokeh :)

I imported a 50 1.4 mc rokkor x pg from the states. Wasn't cheap and hard to find this specific model in the UK but its very nice.

Yep, no biggy. And only necessary if you want to focus to infinity?
I'm sure it's necessary if you want to stop down at all from wide open?
Certain lenses need the facing at the rear ground down to focus to infinity I'm sure.

Just what I've read on Fuji x Forums.

I've been looking for a nice 135mm but struggling a little to find one in good nick, cheap enough and in m42 fitment. Not in any rush though.

You guys should check out the Jupiter 8 and 9 in ltm the 11 also looks cool, not tried it though.

This is the Jupiter 8, its tiny. 50 f2.

The one I ordered was a k and f concept as I have one of these for Pentax glass. The 50 1.7 and 28mm is good the 135 3.5 not bad. And then I have an 80-200 built like a tank weighs a ton and would be good if a burglar enter your house not my wisest purchase.

It was to long... I skim :D I've had mine for ages. Cool isn't it.
It's nice on my Zorki 4, I'm still waiting for the m39 adapter from Ebay to try it on my Foojis

Think I may go for a LM adapter and get the l39 converter for a 2 in 1. I haven't used it on my fooj yet, only on an a7.

It was a k&f concept I ordered, too. Will compare the two once it arrives and move on the spare to another needy tog.

Love the look of that jupiter 8.

Spoiled by that expensive adapter! Really needs a cheapo without the silver front showing.

Granted the lens doesn't line up correctly, but that's a minor detail.
Shot of the X-Pro2/Jupiter 8 taken with an X-E2/Helios 44M, therefore posted in the X-T10 thread :)

You have any shots taken with the Jupiter ?

Those M39 adapters are nice and short. Most of my classic lenses are OM mount which are quite deep.

The fact that I had to sit and think for a while of any shots taken with it ( I usually rely on metadata as I can't rely on internal memory ) means that I have nothing post worthy. However I do distinctly remember (surprisingly!) trying it out on a day trip a couple of years ago on the X-Pro1. Think the thing that made it memorable was I was trying to adjust focus as people were walking towards me, this is as close as I got to correct focus.

Was just thinking that. They look tiny compared to the M42 mount also.

To give a better sense of scale Ian, here are the Jupiter 8 and Helios side by side with adapters mounted.

@Jelster What kind of photography does she generally shoot? I'm thinking that the 27mm FL falls within the remit of the 18-55 so if it were me and I was choosing her a prime, I'd probably look to get something wider than 18 or longer than 55?

Well it will be "general" stuff really, a bit of landscape, we often go to NT properties, so their gardens will be popular. Maybe a bit of night photography in London, and some of the stuff at car shows. I see your train of thought, but was thinking that the 27 is quite short, which would keep the whole combo quite compact.

So I took a quick hour messing about with the Helios before picking my son up tonight from Nursery.

It's so much fun even if I'm not getting it right all the time and the focal length takes some getting used to coming from an 18-55 or formerly a Nikon 35mm in similar, prime terms.

Here's a sample of what I got:

Cheers

Really like 3 and 4. I really like what these fujis do to wood/leather tones.
Also, is it me or is that a hint of swirlyness in number 2? ;)

Yeah I wasn't even gonna share 3 and 4 but loved the way the tones produced.

And you may just be right about the swirlyness, just need more of it! :)
