The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

I went to Greenwich yesterday to do a long exposure shot of the naval college but made a pig's ear of it and every shot is blurry. Not sure if it is the lens, the wind, the ten stop filter or, the bookies' favourite, user error at fault. Anyway, I'll go back another day and try again. On the way back I grabbed these at Westminster

These are both cracking captures [emoji106]
That's very kind of you to say so Gregg. For a second, in the first shot, I thought they were teasing the poor lady, but it was obviously an in-joke because she was laughing so much.

I love this one Ian, the stone and Gilt brought out by the moody sky- stunning.

Well ive decided on the 18-135 that is coming as a kit. But which prime to go for first is beyond me. I love the 50mm focal length on FF so I guess it a 35mm on this

I've not had it long, but I love the 35mm f1.4. It's sort of what I joined the Fuji club for, having something that's general purpose, small, light and decent optically.

Last week in Hastings Nigel (shutterman) showed me his new purchase- a Helios 44-m 58mm F/2 Russian lens. I fell in love with its output from shots Nigel showed me, so I had to buy one and an adaptor- total cost £45. Here's one from today

That looks great. Presume that it's all done manually (focus and exposure) - did you use a light meter and can you use the lens at any aperture or is it set to the widest only? Thought I read somewhere that was the case.

Why not see what your most used focal length is on the Fuji and go from there? No need to dive right in with a prime too :)

Unless you want low-light and/or OOF goodness :)

But personally if you (@rookies) is going to run the systems side by side (ie the X-T1 is at the moment not intended as the D750 replacement), I wouldn't duplicate. You are just opening up a world of comparison pain.

The stellar primes are the 23mm (f1.4) and 56mm, and if you want a walkabout prime I'd buy the 23mm f1.4

Had a day in Hastings last weekend with two other Fuji users Nigel (shutterman) and Dave (starrider) Hereare two that caught my eye;

Couple of very good shots Rob, particularly liking the first shot. Well seen and captured, with a nice mono conversion.(y)

Another very nice shot Rob, of somewhere I know very well. Great composition, good mono conversion, and a nice moody sky.(y)

My 18-55 seems fairly adequate on both counts tbh :)

Well the Nikon will go completely that way I be able to settle and not compare

For a first prime (?) I would go for the 35mm f2. The old "nifty fifty" as we used to call it in the olden days.

Testing out with the XT1 yesterday. I have to say the tracking on the XT1 is just as good as the A6000 and i was happy with my results. I could have probably had it set up more 'optimal' for the Red Arrows but there good enough to begin with for me. Also one from the Singing Ringing Tree.

Thanks George for the kind comments. Thanks Bambam, the lens is fully manual, so you set the focus and aperture-an experience, but with focus assist and highlight peaking-not a chore.

Out for another 25 mile cycle this morning and took the camera with me again.
Found a good angle of the new forth crossing so will be back there again for a pano attempt and what is the bridges without capturing the old girl herself - the original Forth Bridge

Two very nice shots Stuart, great comp' on both of them, and particularly like the clouds on the first shot.(y)

The 35 1.4 was a bit slow and did hunt and rattle a bit in low light. The new 35 f2 is fast and smaller as well as being WR so perfect for an XT1. If you want something even more compact then the 27mm pancake is quite sharp but you don't get the same bokeh as you do on the 35.
I love my 1.4, haven't noticed the focussing being too slow on it but then again I haven't had the 1.2 to compare it to.

Really like these the first one the timing was brilliant and the colours in the second are spot on. Can I Ask which lens you were using for the first one ?

Hmm or the 18-55 to get the good aperture range

Bloody hell.

Got all my Nikon packed up then Mrs said are you not best waiting for XT2bit daft getting XT1 when you know you upgrade in a few month time :s

Lol, women!

She makes a point. Even if the x-t2 doesn't offer what you want or is too expensive for too little extra, you can at least expect a few cheap x-t1s to hit the market shortly after release...
