The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Has anyone here come from a Nikon d750 apart from twist. Has any regret
Mate you've only just got the D750, think you should stick with it for a bit longer at least

Although I've just been flirting with X-T1 ownership as well :p

I might just be square.
Watching the Dave Clark 5 on telly. Do you remember them? They are Lununners.

Just bought an X-t1 this week and love it. Just makes me very happy when using it. the focus direction buttons take some getting used to, but I'm getting there.
Not had a d750 but last Nikon was a d810. Not really missing anything for my needs as a photographer.
I've invested heavily into the Sony fe system, but some of that may get replaced by Fuji gear.

What is it that your d750 isn't doing for you?

Have you set your direction pad to af points in all directions? Hated the double press activation with Sony.

Good to hear you're enjoying the fuji. It's always been a camera that makes me want to use it even though not technically on paper the best.

Don't get me wrong the d750 is a fantastic camera but could be over kill for my needs.

Am thinking something lighter and I seem to think the Fuji lens are good sharp and bang for buck.

I think the xt1 will do everything I need just need not pixel perp

Go for it. You know it makes sense.

Yes but don't ask me how I did it lol
Also got the function button to switch face af on/off. Pretty sure I need to update the firmware to. It's on version 4.

If I'm honest it's the happiest I've been with a camera for some time. Perhaps it's the honeymoon period. Perhaps not.

It looks cool. Cameras aren't "tools for the job". I want to like how it feels and how it looks. It makes me want to pick it up, have it with me and use. It feels nice to use. The shutter sound is nice. This is important to me. I took it to the office today to show people how cool it is. Geek.

The image quality is better than I expected. Much better actually. On my Mac I'm not seeing an awful lot of difference between 16 mp and 42 mp (a7rii). Obviously there is a difference, but it's made me question a few things.

I've been toying with the idea of trying Fuji for ages but held off. It'll get a thorough run out over the long weekend and then I'll be able to have a clearer understanding of what it can do, it's limitations and if
I'll start counting down the days for an X-t2 release.

So far so good.

How do you guys manage with low MP over the like of 24mp

I came from a Canon 1100d and x30 combo to the x-t10.
Big upgrade for me in terms of speed and quality from both bodies and dont regret a thing.

I'd give anything for a like-for-like rangefinder version of the x-t10 though.

Believe me, it's not a problem :D

Back when I had Canon DSLR's 8mp was enough for an A3 print. It's not something I worry about... at all.

If you're interested in MFT I'm sure you could download some files to play with or someone could send you some. MFT is quite a capable system and I don't think that the mp count is a limiting factor for most users.

Like I said to you already, 16 and 24mp ain't much difference, fuji offer's excellent lens coverage and they are sharp so you can crop a lot before seeing softness. I agree with Mr. P. If you frame correctly you don't need a huge amount of MP.

Re mp:
Does depend how/what you are shooting though.
Always nice to be able to crop when shooting wildlife. Or heavily cropping a full length portrait to get two different styles from one shot.

To me that doesn't really apply, probably why I also use primes. I use the right fl for the job.

With Sony you need 42mp for wildlife with fuji you're covered from 213-853mm by the 100-400 and 1.4x or the 50-140 and tc for portraits etc. Sure it means buying more lenses (primes) but when you look at the difference in cost...

That's a bit of a cop out though, if you were in the right place with the right optics you wouldn't need to crop on a wildlife shot, and the portrait example could be two different shots in camera.

If you get it right in camera then there is less requirement for PP, but if finding a decent image in PP from a set of poorly composed images is your bag, then yes more MP will help.

I know I've taken this to extremes, and there is happy medium in the middle.........

I haven't quite mastered the whole "talking to the animals" but where they allow me the so close. Any tips?
In the meantime I'll have to setting with cropping and being a poor tog :)

As far as I know the 100-400 Fuji lens is new out. What Fuji optics were you using prior to that to get you so close to the wildlife?

I thought this was a discussion about number of MP, I never said anything about brands of camera!!! I'm not copping out here, but if Fuji didn't do the right optics for what I wanted to shoot, I would be shooting with a different brand. As it is I'm not a wildlife photographer, and therefore have no requirement for 'long' lenses.

As I said before if you are in the right place with the right optics, then the number of MP is less of a consideration - This is applicable to any brand of digital camera.

The XF23mm may be big, but is very, very sharp (my favourite lens on an X-T1, and I still own an X100!!!
have you considered the 18mm f2.0 a lot more compact a touch slower. At f2 but a bit wider allowing you crop ?
I have admit I only moved to X system last year with Xpro 1 2 lens and Eric for a no brainier £499 and the 18 was my go to lens until I mounted a 56mm f1.2 on body at a Calumet open day :( another mistake that became a expensive one

I have owned an XfF8mm, but I've never took it out the shrink wrapping!!!! It was the promotional offer lens, way back when you bought an X-E1 with XF35mm, you got a free XF18mm. I sold it on to raise funds for an X-E2 + 18-55 (which I still have)

I seem to have acquired so many X-series cameras and lenses, that I don't have the desire to investigate the 18mm!! I love the 23mm focal length, so will put up with the size if I want to use the X-T1 or If I want something compact I just take out the X100.

In the real world it's not always possible to be in the perfect place to get the perfect composition with the perfect optics for that particular scene!!! Therefore my point of extra mp at your disposal is "handy" as I put it.

Yes I can appreciate that in fact I feel I got the two lenses free along with the case on the no brainier offer they were doing :)
I have been very tempted to get the 23mm and the 16mm but it's rather a big outlay and I a have the 14mm prime so I guess I will have to wait having added another body and kit lens at the Calumet open day last Thursday o_O I must stop going to these open days ! I'm spending my kids inheritance :(

You must be only one short of the fabulous five now 14/23/35/56/90 ...... I'd buy the 90 before the 16, though I have an interest in the 16 I can't justify it already owning the 14.

Edit - There are no pockets in a shroud, spend away :D

Well prime ways atm I have Samyang 8mm f2.8 and XF 14/18/27/35/56/60/90 so I'm probably suffering GAS again tbh
But hay what a great guy you are giving me the thumbs up to spend away ! I like you and your thinking :)
But I guess I might need to get a Taylor made shroud with massive pockets in !
I so want to take my :fuji: gear with me on my travels when I pass into the unknown ;)

You 'NEED' a 23mm in your life.

Its nice to find someone as bad as me though........might have just sold my 60mm though, as for me the 90mm plus the extension rings will do the same job that I wanted the 60mm for.

Oh cheers so I do need the 23mm then lol
Interesting I haven't tried my 90mm with tubes !
I'm gonna give it a go a bit later I do find the 60mm a little frustrating to use at times tbh I thought it might just be me getting used to a complete new system and its quirks

I need more GAS so I'm off for beans on toast now that should help o_O:D:eek:

Thank guys for you very informative help. I am going have a try with a body and a prime possibly a used one so
I won't lose much then decide if it would replace my d750 or not

rookies

All the Fuji primes are good lenses, some are truly excellent, but some of the older ones 18/35/(1.4)60 are not that fast to focus, so if you want something snappy then I would suggest not starting with one of these. The AF speed on these will be noticeably slower than your D750.

I really hope they make the 33 1.0 and it has the new af. They should've updated the 35 1.4 with wr and faster af instead of a 35/2 imo.
