The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Morning Fuji owners :)

I have an xt1and am hearing good things about the Panasonic 100-300 lens. Can you get an adaptor to use it on the Fuji? If yes, will auto focus still work?

No, I'm afraid not, the Panasonic is designed for a system with a smaller sensor. It's generally only SLR, medium format and rangefinder lenses that you can adapt. You will have electronic aperture of auto focus control either.

I thought as much... Never mind. I had a trip to a wildlife centre recently and really enjoyed borrowing a canon 100-400 (I have a canon 5d) but funnily enough don't want to spend that amount of money plus the weight of it. Was keen to get a lens for my xt1 which would have the same reach and quality

A 50-230 has the equivalent range of 75mm to 345mm on FF (Canon 5d sensor), and can be had for buttons.

Otherwise if you want AF, then you'll have to invest in the new Fuji 100-400 (which will be equivalnet to 150mm to 600mm on a Canon 5D), but that will cost a wheelbarrowfull of buttons, and is quite weighty/large

Fuji don't make bad lens, and the 50-230 is great, it's only downside is the plastic body doesn't feel as robust as the metal bodied lenses, but that gives it light weight.

Just a few snaps from a walk about with the little 'un. Using the XF-90.

Processing is one of the VSCO B&W filters, so grain is intentional.

TImeless mate! VSCO and Really Nice Images make some great presets. For some reason they work really well with the X-Trans sensor...couldn't replicate the film look with my bayer cameras, which is odd.

Nice! Do I deduce correctly from the name that this was done with a tilt/shift lens?

Yes, I bought an old Canon FD 35mm tilt-shift which seems to work fine with a cheapo adapter giving a 50mm equivalent. A 2x teleconverter just arrived in the post too so that works out at about 100mm. I'd like something wider but cost/quality issues prevent me at the moment.

So this shot was three landscape orientation shots stitched together. I screwed up the alignment a little, which was annoying, but this should otherwise have given me three pics with about 20% overlap that would stitch together pretty seamlessly. As it is, this shot is 4500*5600, so plenty of detail. I've another thread over in the landscape-urban section with a 13 shot pano of the London Eye and County Hall. Even cropped a bit that came out at 10,500*6666 so should bring pretty large.

Cool. I'm on the lookout for a cheap T/S to adapt, but "cheap T/S" is a slight oxymoron, I appreciate :D. I've done quite a lot of stitching with my Nodal Ninja, and even handheld, when push comes to shove. It's surprising what you can get away with sometimes, but this is a great approach for optimal quality. I also have an unhealthy longing for a Rhinocam, but that's a whole 'nother matter...;)

These look great. I really rate the RNI presets for the ££. Been playing with the instant film presets recently.

Thank you :) I agree the RNI packs are superb value, I was originally going to get some VSCO packs, but these seemed just as good.

Is the graphite X-t1 the same as the black X-t1?
Trying to understand the reason for price difference.

Thanks

Just a couple of simple tourist type Fujigraphs taken at New York USA from the top of "The Empire State" building the last time I was in downtown NY. Dreadful dull misty weather conditions so I converted them to mono and tried to induce a bit of a grainy film effect in PS.

Nice shots george and the mono conversions are a nice change from the colour versions of similar views

"I don't get across from TN to those parts too often, but when I do I naturally try and take in some of the sights".

These are great George with perfect processing. Number two is the more striking for me, a really great shot.

Wonderful city scenes George, the mono conversions work really well.

LOL That I am. Alibaba.com have them for $150 each minimum order of 100. They've spelt them wrong though Fujee lens, but anyone can make a mistake, who's in ?

I'll take 2 when you get them and will pay that in £ rather than $ for your trouble! :P :whistling:

I bought a 50-230 for the slight extra reach over the 55-200 and the weight saving. Don't like it much in comparison, feels cheap and nasty compared to the XF lens.

That was my feeling too. I soon sold it and went back to a 55-200.

Love the first two monos. Not quite so keen on the colour pair. Great compositions, but maybe the WB is off in different ways?
