The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Who makes top end neck straps?

I have a BlackRapid RS-7 but after a nice neck strap too.

Cheers
Optec?
T P did a range of branded Optec straps a year or so back. Very nice too. I've got a couple somewhere that I no onger use, but that's my fault, not the gear!

I've been playing with RAW files rather than DNG but I can't view them in Windows. Presumably I need the latest Codec, but can't find the right one on Microsoft site. Whenever I find one I'm told that I already have it!

Any kind soul got a link to the right place?

I'm running Windows 7.

Yes, I've seen that, but it costs money. I'm always a bit suspicious of programmes that have to be paid for when Microsoft usually give the stuff away for free.
I have the Faststone Image Viewer which is free and will open the files, but it's another step that I'd like to do without.

6.3.9721.0 I've already run with no success.
The next couple on the list won't work.
I've tried Fuji own software but that converts the files into a format that Windows doesn't recognise at all - only Fuji can read it. (And curiously Faststone!)

Maybe this is the real reason why I import as dng rather than RAW??? Lost in the mists of time that decision I'm afraid.

Lightroom?

Lightroom is no problem. But I tend to look at images in Windows first. Maybe I should change my style. They obviously can be viewed, just not in the manner in which I try and do things. Only want to see the thumbnails; that's enough for me to decide what I'm doing with them.

Frank, the obvious answer is raw + JPEG then use the JPEGs as proofs to see which of the raw files deserve extra attention. Allows pixel peeping to check for ultimate sharpness as well.

I personally found that with all the cameras I've owned, but I think it probably me not the camera. :D

If only there was a perfect camera and a perfect lens. I'd have at least 2 of them! ;)

I don't bother with windows preview, LR opens my SD card, I tick the files I like in the thumbnail view, import, job done. Seems youre adding a step for nothing.

Yes Nod, I could do that, but then I'd have the pfaff of deleting all the unwanted JPEGs afterwards.

It may be the way I have things set up, but the LR preview is never very sharp. Not good enough for decisions on rejection or not.
I don't use Windows to preview files; if I need to do that I go to Fastsone as a first step.
It's more after my workflow that I like to look at RAWs, for re-working or editing.
Yes, I may be complicating things, or maybe I'm trying to be too simplistic.

Stick to what youre used to then. If it works it works.

Can't you just select all JPEGs and delete them? Or stick all JPEGs in a different folder on import then delete the contents of that folder?

But Nod, you have the perfect body!!!

I think you have me confused with Mrs Nod! (Unless you're into fat 50 something blokes!!! [Luckily, Mrs Nod seems to be!!!])

Mrs Nod is a very nice lady. Far too good for you. I think of her every time I see those ear plugs!!!

That's just super.
Coffees are on me - I owe you.
Don't bring your 23mm. You might not take it home!!!

So...anyone else for a day by the sea?

She says that you're far too kind (but thank you!) and I agree, she's far better than I deserve.

I'm short of some adapter rings so don't think I have a big stopper solution for the 23mm without vignetting, but no matter how hard I try I can't seem to get it off the X-T1. Might bring the IR X-E1 as well just in case we have some sunshine!!

The last time I saw her was in Reykjavik Airport. She very graciously said that my sweater didn't have too much of an aroma after 10 days of constant use. SWMBO thought differently and it was in the wash 20 minutes after I'd arrived home.

Please give her my regards.

I don't have any rings yet -Jack the Hat is still flooded out - but on Sunday I fixed my 10 stop to the front of the 35 mm with a couple of elastic bands! Seemed to work OK.

The fast pictureviewer is very good and will cost you less than a pint. well worth having.

Thanks, but don't see why I should pay for something that Microsoft /Fuji should be providing as part of the package. I have Fastsone but it's another step to add into the process.
All works well if I down load as dng rather than RAW, but I got bawled out for sugesting this method so thought I'd try the RAW route. Just about every other camera make has a RAW codec that works and I wonder why Fuji doesn't. Or maybe it only works on W10...Microsoft are as bad as Adobe at forcing you to upgrade to be able to use modern gear.

I've given over with this train of thought. Will do what I've always done and take the flack from the purists!!!

That's interesting. Wonder if it's a Fuji thing that's stopping it?

I tried downloading Fuji's own software but that is pretty basic. Reminds me of Canon DPP software. Comes free with the gear and is probably good value for money!!!

X trans afaik isn't the easiest to develop for, its a non standard sensor array so most companies wont bother. That's also why Adobe had issues with it initially and some say they continue to. Look at Foveon, same problem, but nobody supports that.

There's several discussions on the Fuji forum about this problem. No one has sorted it out so you must be right.
Suppose we all work round it in our own ways.

While we're on this topic can you shoot just raw on the X-T1 or is it raw+jpeg only? Not with my camera right now so can't check.

Right in front of my camera now!
You can shoot...
Fine
Normal
Fine+Raw
Normal+Raw
Raw

That's the list. So just about every possibility for you.
