The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Not necessarily, A7rii / D810 both high MP with incredible high ISO, medium MP you have the D750, again, class leading. The Fujis are great in some ways but the ISO is false and its only 6400 RAW (around 4000 compared to everyone else), which is fine for a lot of folks.

yup, agreed. the Fuji's are pretty crap at low light. the A7Rii and A7Sii are both awesome cameras but with one huge downfall...Cost.

In a years time they will release new versions, and those mkii bodies will drop dramatically as no one will want them. I dont feel so bad if the Fuji will be replaced next year at the cost of them, but if I owned the Sony id be pretty mad.

At the end of the day, if you get the images you want from the kit you have then why change in the first place, this is what I am struggling with at the moment with getting rid/keeping my Canon kit. it does what I want it to do, with the only downfall being the sheer weight of it all. I could keep it all, but if I have a choice of picking up my 5dmkiii with the 16-35 f2.8 to go do some landscape shots..I will most likely take the much lighter Fuji. So...when will I actually use all this expensive Canon gear, hmm.

Sure, but the Fuji is equiv 85mm f2ish so its easier for the camera to AF. If you were shooting say a Nikkor 85 1.8G or Sigma 85mm 1.4 youd notice a big difference compared to the slow Canon.

Oh yeah, the Sigma is way faster..but the Canon produces images that the Nikkor and Sigma cannot touch. I know a lot of Nikon users that are jealous of the Canon 85 1.2.

Obviously this is a Fuji thread and I'm not trying to get anyone to change systems...

I do get a bit phased when people complain about the cost of the Sony system as for me it's sort of ok... the bodies are IMVHO very competitively priced (The A7 is the same price as the X-T1) and I don't think that the lenses are that bad either, or at least the lenses I'm interested in aren't that bad IMO. Some of the Fuji lenses are cheaper but some aren't exactly cheap either.

The A7 is first gen, no one wants them now with their crappy lens mounts and strange handling, everyone wants the A7ii (£1200 ish) A7rii is just stupid at £2600 (ish) and the A7sii isnt far behind it.

Sony wide angle 16-35 is £1079 versus the Fuji equivalent which is £687

for the cost of the A7Rii you can buy 3 fuji bodies and have change..and thats at UK prices.

Sony 35mm F1.4 = £1349 vs Fuji 35mm F1.4 equivalent = £607.50

Sorry..you have been on the christmas shandies :)

OK I'll bite bit this is the last time as I'm just providing info and adding balance and this is a Fuji thread...

If you compare the stupidly priced A7rII, as you put it, against cameras of similar resolution isn't it reasonably priced? Cheap even?

And as for crappy lens mounts and no one wanting an A7... in the time I've had my A7 I've almost certainly done more lens changes than with any other camera I've owned and I owned a 20D Canon for over 7 years and the lens mount looks as sturdy as it did on day one and is there anything in the Fuji line up that can match the image quality I can get from my unloved by everyone A7 and 35mm f2.8 or 55mm f1.8 lenses? Thought not :D

The Sony system is largely a quality system with some of the best AF lenses ever tested and you have to pay for that. Yes, you can cherry pick and show significant differences in price here and there and the Sony system will be significantly more expensive in some instances but IMO in some instances the differences aren't significant and therefore your argument doesn't really stand up, not for everyone anyway. The cost difference between my A7 + lenses and an X-T1 and lenses would be minimal for me, you have another view and that's fine :D

If anyone is about to pull the trigger on the XT1 and 135 lens there are half a dozen retailers selling with double discount bringing the price to £1024 plus the £75 cashback plus the grip. Seems a cracking deal. Details at camerapricebuster.
I bought yesterday at £1099 from Amazon and they don't price match and don't do the double discount yet so I am returning it and buying from one of the other retailers

yeah..thats what I meant :)

mine is all still boxed up ready to go...really makes me nervous to get rid of it, but I know I wont use it now I have the Fuji so it makes sense to trade it all in. Wex have offered me 6k for the bits I have left so with that I will get everything Fuji..and have some cash to spare.

With Wex they give you credit for the gear you sell, unless you have agreed to some cash back??. MPB will give you cash for your goods. Something to bare in mind where you trade your gear, ignore if you have done the deal already

The "crappy lens mount" comes from user reports that the original A7 cameras didn't fare well with heavy lens attached. This apparently caused issues with Sony's plastic erm polycarbonate or whatever it was body to flex. The Sony kit lens, and the primes aren't supposed to make a problem.

I don't want to rehash what various reviewers have or have not said, but I will say that neither Fuji XT or Sony A7 have had universal priase for their image quality. Sony has had it's lossy raw format criticised (which for first gen A7 users my understanding is that Sony have yet to release a FW update) and not all reviewers are enamoured with X-Trans.

For many (and I'm guessing especially here in the Fuji thread :)) the <1 stop advantage of Sony's original A7 was far outweighed by Fuji's wider lens selection, far more extensive external control set, 14bit raw and (perhaps the biggest annoyance to Sony users?) Fuji's penchant for regular FW updates, offering genuine improvements and features, such as the electronic shutter.

Now granted the new A7ii offers a lot more, and apparently the A7rii offers.. Well everything :) but the prices of these models (100% fairly, not trying to suggest otherwise) are above, way above the cost of the XT1/10

So like most things, it quickly becomes a comparison between apples and oranges!

Id disagree and I'm not really a huge fan of Sonys A7 series, I am a big fan of Fuji as a system though, HOWEVER, handling is subjective and in terms of pure IQ, the Sony wins, the sensor is way better (after all youre comparing sonys last last gen APSC vs Sonys last gen FF). The only thing that keeps the Fuji in the same league is the lenses, but Sonys playing catch up. FF lenses cost more than APSC. Especially when Sonys devving lenses to match a 42+mp FF sensor and not just 16mp APSC.

yeah I know. MPB were offering less than a grand to what Wex are offering..I'm good with store credit :)

Merry Christmas everyone! Hope everyone gets some lovely camera goodies (whether a present or bought yourself!)

I was curious really. I use Canon Yn stuff and it works very well but it doesn't support ETTL. That's not a great loss for my style but I was just curious as to if there was now a Fuji specific range of Yn stuff that might support ETTL.

Ah right! I thought you were going to say that it wouldn't work on Fuji!

I only use flash in Manual so all's good. :)

Merry Xmas to call the Fuji shooters - hope the big fella has been good to you all

@fabs I'm sure the wait will be worth it for the flash gear

Merry Christmas all!

Marc the Yongnuo will work a treat when it arrives.
There are other ways to flash at Christmas, I know from experience but won't go into detail.

@mickledore the YN 560 range is manual only but with the TX and a couple of flashes will do the same as you do with your Canon flashes and 622's but with less batteries as the receivers are built into the flashes.

Yep, of that I'm sure

And for that, I thank you!

Yup. Your missus made a good choice!!!

She's very good at that*

*Dropping many hints also helps. :D

We are spending our first Xmas at home after 41 years of marriage. Didn't know what to do so we went for a walk. Came home to bacon butties and a bottle of champers. You can guess the rest. A very nice way to spend Xmas lunch!!!

I got a new "Cowboy Outfit", I know it's sad isn't it. (y)

"And yes there is a story there somewhere Frank" ;) @mickledore .:D:D:D

A big "MERRY CHRISTMAS" to everyone on this really great thread.:fuji:

George.

Didn't know you needed spurs to pick cotton:thinking:

All the very best George and family. Don't know when you're next over here but even then you'll be at the opposite end of the country. :fuji:

Don't even go there m8, I am actually over here until early February then it's about three weeks of planting (weather permitting).

How are you getting on with the Fooj bits & bobs you got the other day?

At the moment I use mainly the zooms as they fit my working needs more. Out of the primes I've only got the 23mm which is a cracking lens but I really fancy the 90mm and possibly the 35mm.

George.

George,

Not done much at all. Today I've been "busy" looking after SWMBO!

I don't have the 23 but I do have the 10-24. I've now got the 35 and 56 and need to get out soon to play with them. I do like the idea of 1.4/1.2 to play with.

Unfortunately we have just had storm after storm. There is one going on now and another forecast for Tuesday/Wednesday. Everywhere is saturated and the weather doesn't even settle down in between the deluges.

You us be far enough south to.miss the worst of the winter weather. Lucky you.

Is the Fuji XF55-200mm currently the longest zoom in Fuji's lens line up? I appreciate the XF100-400mm is maybe due for release next year.

Peter, the longest lens at the moment in the Fuji line up is the 50-230mm.(y)

George.

Santa brought me an XT1 Graphite and 18-135 - very pleased with it so far and thanks again for all the advice a few weeks back :)

One quick question please - I know Samyang make x-mount lenses but are there any other third parties who do this ?

Congrats on your acquisition!
I believe that Zeiss make (expensive) lenses for Fuji x fit but other than them and Samyang I know of no others
