The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

You'll have to wait and see!

I mentioned your name and they knocked 10% off their offer!

StephenL...a question.
I see you got one of the resin cases from the Fuji forum.
Any reports on it? Is it any good?
Lastly how much did it cost to get one over here?

Thanks for your opinions guys, I think I'll be sticking to the RAF files for now.

. And you can't apply Fuji filters to DNG files in LR as you can with RAF.

Having a play with using RAF rather than dng. I can't see the Fuji filters in LR Development module. Do I have to import them from somewhere, and if so where can I find them?

Welcome my man. A free card as well. Lucky you.

Anyway, my news. Just to please Mr Perceptive I've been to his favourite camera shop today. Walked out with a pocket stuffed with £20 notes. I kid you not. A little bit of Fuji gear as well.
First port of call? Natwest to empty my pockets!

you binned the canon gear?

Thumb grip attached :) actually helps with the weight of the 16-35 f2.8 attached

No, not binned. Sold it. All of it.
No point in keeping it for the couple of times per year that I'm using it. Just depreciating so I thought I might as well take the money.

yeah..thats what I meant :)

mine is all still boxed up ready to go...really makes me nervous to get rid of it, but I know I wont use it now I have the Fuji so it makes sense to trade it all in. Wex have offered me 6k for the bits I have left so with that I will get everything Fuji..and have some cash to spare.

I've been umming and aahing for 6 months about getting rid.
It's just a wrench moving on from gear systems that I've grown up with but times change.

The guys in the shop said that they are seeing one a week trading down to mirrorless systems. There's an interesting thread on the Fuji forums about modern developments. Have Canikon missed the boat in sticking rigidly to DSLR systems?

Probably not, when they do eventually take the plunge and do a proper mirrorless system you can bet all the big DSLR boys will follow like Lemmings claiming it's the best thing since sliced bread...

My CPS rep told me next year there will be a pro level mirrorless from Canon...we shall see. If they really gave a toss and wanted us to stop trading in our Canon gear they should announce something so we all think twice.

DSLR is still better than Mirrorless for several reasons, the buyer needs to decide wether they require those features, it doesnt make them lemmings for waiting for something that will actually be on par. A pro level mirrorless doesnt mean it will compete directly with the 1dx/D5 etc. it just means it will be a pro in that market segment, kind of like the A7rii.

Arguably the two things that pros want most that mirrorless don't have is high ISO performance and ultra fast AF.
It will be interesting to see how those are achieved.

Least shutter lag, least blackout with fast FPS that meters and AFs between shots, fastest AF, best tracking, best build, best service backup. Mirrorless do have hi iso and 'the sensor', just that Fuji is falling behind in some ways, look at the Sony a7 series for sensor performance.

Looking at the size of an X-T1 with a zoom lens & a grip added i really don,t see the point of changing my 6D to something that looks a bit on the big size.:):canon::exit:

agreed, apples and oranges really...but who apart from pros need a 1dx or a d5 anyway? I dont need mine..I just like them :P

high iso....Sony A7sii, dont get much higher than those. High ISO has a trade off with pixel count. I want a happy medium.

literally my only bugbear with the Fuji is having to remove the grip to get to the battery in the body..thats it.

I think a lot of serious hobbyists. I personally dont need D4s build but I need the best possible AF + Sensor, thats why I have a D750 as my main camera and mirrorless as a second system.

you are just looking at the height difference. there is a significant weight difference and depth too.

Not necessarily, A7rii / D810 both high MP with incredible high ISO, medium MP you have the D750, again, class leading. The Fujis are great in some ways but the ISO is false and its only 6400 RAW (around 4000 compared to everyone else), which is fine for a lot of folks.

Lenses play a huge part on AF too though..my 5diii with the 85mm F1.2 attached is utterly useless at AF, slow as hell and rarely on target if the subject is moving where the Fuji 85mm equivalent nails almost every shot...but, if I stick the 70-200 f2.8 Lii IS on one of my 1diii bodies you dont get much faster than that :)

Sure, but the Fuji is equiv 85mm f2ish so its easier for the camera to AF. If you were shooting say a Nikkor 85 1.8G or Sigma 85mm 1.4 youd notice a big difference compared to the slow Canon.
