The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

I have been considering the XT1 for ages and have finally gone for it (and 18-55 lens)..after lots of research, reading all 238 pages of threads here and having questions I've posted here answered :) Massive step as I am very much a beginner and have only used a little compact camera.....I am soooo excited and can fully understand folk that have posted a picture of the XT1 box when they have purchased one!!
Any advice on a case and strap? And also when I purchased it I was asked if I wanted to take out insurance and I said no.....not sure now...again any advice on that? Thanks
Good choice, I am sure you will enjoy it. As to insurance, it depends who was offering it. If you register the camera with Fuji, you might get an email from them offering extended warranty, well worth it if you are going to keep the camera a while, but generally this sort of extended insurance isn't transferable.
I bought a neoprene camera strap for mine from Amazon. It was about £16 or so, very comfortable and clips on and off. Can't remember the make but it was similar to this one..

Never had a case, so can't help with that

I bought a long black Gordys strap with red cord wrap and a Gariz half case in black. IMO it makes an already great looking camera even better, plus the Gariz half case makes the grip on the camera even better.

Well done Mike, you won't regret it, I sold my last Canon DSLR last week, and am now totally Fuji.....
Another one ! Seriously though I never thought I'd get rid of my Canon camera gear, but since getting into the Fuji X system my Canon gear came out of the safe maybe twice a year, it was too cumbersome to travel with so it was a real waste of a great camera.
As for insurance I always insure my camera gear with Aaduki, I've never had to use it but just in case.

I find it easier to include the gear in my home/contents insurance policy.
I had my Canon 5D3 and a high end rMBP on it, combined insured value in excess of £4000, my house insurance wouldn't come anywhere near that, plus Aaduki insurance covers the gear while travelling and out of the house.

I'm on LR 5 and hadn't noticed any particular problems with the processing.
The major gripe for me us that Fuji lens profiles are almost non existent.

As I understand it, the lens profiles are passed by the camera to the raw file directly, as is the case with Olympus, and so LR profiles are not required. Of course, I may be wrong.

As regards details, I have absolutely no issues with the way LR deals with this, as long as the correct sharpening procedure is followed.

Really? I didn't know that! That's very clever, if it works.
Somewhere, sometime I saw a post (not on here) about downloading individual profiles for Fuji lenses. I followed all the steps, and nothing changed. Maybe that's why?

That's a very bold move David, but one I'm sure you'll not regret. To me the Fooj-X system (particularly the X-T1) feels just right.(y)

George.

What Stephen L says is correct. In the early days the lens profiles were not handled by LR, so there are profiles for some of the older lenses, but you don't need them anymore.

You're gonna "Enjoy" that Sue, looking forward to seeing some of your shots.(y)

Except for the Samyang 8mm fisheye:runaway::runaway::runaway:

How on earth did you find out to use the Nikon 10.5mm profile?

George, I'm sure I've made the right decision, I went out on a shoot with @mickledore and @Billy with the 6D +24-70, and really didn't enjoy handling the camera, though the shots were all ok, so last week I traded them in for the XF90mm, and some other goodies. I really enjoy shooting the Fuji's, and if that means I miss the odd low light shot, or ultra fast AF, then so be it, I just prefer the handling of the Fuji cameras.

My first SLR was a Fuji STX-1N, so I suppose i've come full circle!

Funny you should say that...I used the 5D3 for the first time in anger for some months on that meet. I found it much easier to sort out the controls and I just new where everything was. But it does seem hard work compared to the Fooj. I'm messing around at home in what I laughingly call my studio with the Canon, but think it might be a long time before I take it out with me again.

It was mentioned on another Forum, I'm sad, but not sad enough to trawl through hundreds of lens profiles!!!

Well, I must be sad. As you'd mentioned that, and as I didn't know that profiles were inbuilt I've been trawling through lots of profiles to find ones that work with the Fuji lenses. Nothing does so looks like I wasted my time. As you say - sad!

I traded them in for the XF90mm,

That's one lens I've yet to try David.

I keep pondering over it mainly 'cause on FF 135mm (which as you know the 90 equates to) is one of my fav' focal lengths. I'd be really interested to know & see some of your results with that lens. I'm not too bothered about auto focus speed etc as I prefer to work manually with everything, but I'd sure be interested in the real world performance optically.(y)

As I understand it, there is, somewhere, a Rokinon profile for the 7.5mm, which is close to 8mm, and as we know Rokinon and Samyang are the same manufacturer. I think I've also used a Canon 10mm profile when I had the 7.5mm in Olympus mount. It's really a case of looking down the list of profiles in LR for something a similar focal length and seeing which one suits you best.

I have just got that lens - samples earlier in this thread - and I'm just in awe of the image quality, both in terms of sharpness and colour rendition.

The Nikon does a reasonable job (I'm not going to say good. A good Nikon is an oxymoron!!!) but just leaves the centre ever so slightly curved.
I'll trawl 'tinterweb and see if I can find that Rokinon profile.

It took me ages to get them to appear in LR, but it's so long ago, and my brain is so old and addled, that I cannot remember how I managed it.

There are instructions about putting them in a separate folder inside Lightroom. I followed those but nothing happened. I can see them, but for some reason LR isn't reading them.

Has anyone heard anything more about the new camera being announced in January by Fuji - XPro2? I have an XT-1 but i've been thinking about getting something to compliment it for a while - maybe X100S/T but thinking I might as well wait until I see what they Fuji are bringing out.
I had an XPro1 and loved it but then since the XT, it got dusty so was sold on. Itching to spend some money!

I use a Mac running El Capitan. My Rokinon profiles reside individually under Users/username/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/LensProfiles/1.0/

That's a different location to mine on the PC. I'll finish my butties and have another try.

If an XPro2 ever materializes it'll probably sell for scary money initially. I can thoroughly recommend the X100T its a lovely camera that makes you want to takes photos.

On PC extract the profile files to : C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\LensProfiles\1.0

The catch is that those profiles (from your dpreview link) were created on a Panasonic camera so rather than looking for Rokinon/Samyang in the lens dropdown you need to select Panasonic and the various profiles will be there.

Panasonic. Doh! Never would have thought of that. Yes it's there now. Thank you.

That brings back memories, my first SLR was this :

st605n1.jpg

I upgraded to this from a Zorki 4K which I loved. The Fuji was a great camera but I sold it on after 2 years and as I was finished my apprenticeship and earning "big" money I bought a Canon A1, took me 2 years to pay it off LOL So I too have come full circle only this time I've sold my Canon and went totally over to Fuji.

Looking at this picture I'm just noticing it does have a striking similarity to my graphite XT1.

You mean you didn't start out with a Zenit B?
I thought everyone had to have one of those. Heavier than a DSLR!
