The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Anyone got the newer 35mm f2? Stuck between getting the expensive 56mm that I cant really afford and would limit indoor use, the new 35mm f2 or re-buy the older 35mm f1.4 which I sold just before firmware v4 came out and improved it apparently.

Choices, choices... I'm thinking one of the 35mm realistically as I'm a very occasional photographer at the moment and struggling for a reason and time to even get the camera out

If I didn't already have the 35mm f1.4 I would buy the f2 version, as it's weather resistant, lighter, and smaller. Optically it may (or may not) be as good on bench testing, but in the real world I'm sure it is.

Reviews so far seem to show the 35/2 as being sharper across the frame at wide apertures, compared with the 35/1.4. The 56/1.2 is incredible, based on the few chances I've had to shoot with it so far. Usage is more limited though due to the longer focal length, obvs.

I had one delivered yesterday from the far east, not got round to testing or even using it yet.
Got a stinking cold and the weather is grim, just not in the mood and will leave it a couple of days so I can enjoy it more (hopefully)

Will report back with my findings, had the other 35mm and wasn't that impressed so we shall see

How's the fisheye progressing?

Along the same lines I'm afraid Frank, got the heath robinson hood attached, but further testing has come to a halt.
Tell you what I will make a photo of my repair the first shot with the 35mm, sure you will be impressed

Don't worry I never expect sympathy from the hard hearted mob on here ;)

Umm... right I'm turning into (or already am!) a PITA now but... I've just realised that's there's an XT10! Ok yes it's in the thread title, but I didn't realise *what* it was - which seems to be a smaller cheaper version of the XT1?

Have many on here got it? Think it would work well with the 18-135?

Cheers :)

My daughter has a XT-10 and very nice it is too, from what I have seen the 18-135 might make it a rather front heavy combo.

The smaller primes and 18-55mm would be a better balance, you might find the X-T1 a more suitable match for that lens

Just ordered an XT10 body from Amazon, theres a double cash back ( £80) if you buy one before 30th Nov, making it £370 delivered.
I thought it was a good deal....

Mike, The X-T10 is quite a bit smaller than the X-T1 (and the 18-135 is quite a big lens, so with this lens it will handle a bit front heavy), IQ wise it will be the same at the X-T1, but has a smaller EVF (and no weathersealing, and the 18-135 is a weather sealed lens).

There are no kits with the X-T10+18-135, but you can get X-T10+16-50 and X-T10+18-55 kits and some retailers are offering the X-T10+18-55+55-200 as a bundle.

Thanks Mr P - I completely agree but my only hesitation is that I might miss a bit of reach if I went for one of the kit lenses (I had a 17-50 on a crop before and ended up changing to a 15-85 mainly for the reach).

Thanks again for all the advice everybody - no more questions now I promise!

I already own the 35mm 1.4 and love it and at f2 from what I have read you will have to work hard at telling the difference. I will try the f2 version when its out but I like the fact that I can go down to f1.4 with mine

The extra 10% off at Wex today just pushed me over the edge... 50-140mm and 90mm on the way... I really should start thinking about selling all my Canon gear, its rarely used now. When I do drag it out, it is enjoyable though...

I really fancy that 90mm...with 10% off and £75.00 cashback, works out at under £500 if my maths serves me right? :D My only concern is that I'm not sure how much use I'd get out of it.

I've decided to keep the 5D3 plus a couple of lenses.
The occasional trip to Oulton Park or wherever needs the better AF (Yes i know it can be done, but it's so much easier with the DSLR)
Secondly I've found that my various creative trigers - water drops, sound and vibration sensors strugle to work properly with the Fuji. Not a big thing, but doing that keeps me out of trouble, and the weather, through the winter.

@bazfoster @mickledore here you go, pictured of the bodged (mk1 repair) fisheye taken with the new 35mm f/2 wr at f/2.8, straight from camera jpeg, just cropped and saved as a small file to post here

Very impressed with both lenses and thanks very much Frank for the fisheye, best bargain ever

Frank, have a look at Triggertrap, I have one of their base units, works well with my phone.

Looks good. Don't suppose you've made a clip for the lens cap to clip onto?
So how did you get the old stuff off? That's a very neat cut.

David, I've looked those in the past.
My drop kit has connections through the solenoid releasing the drops to the camera It also has variations in number and size of drops and timings between them. Triggertrap doesn't seem able to do that.
It may be able to replace the sound/vibration sensor that I have and it's on the list of things to seriously consider.

Its actually a piece of 320 gsm matt black card glued onto the remnants of the broken bits, silver colour is from a permanent marker. Lens cap
fits on nicely, does the job although it will probably need renewing one day.

So it's only a temporary repair then?
It will fall to bits the first time you use it - honest:LOL::LOL:

10% Off?

No chance, it will be fine for ages, will use plastic card if there is a next time, all jokes aside the image quality is very good.

Only had a little play indoors with the new 35mm, first impressions are excellent and no complaints, very fast to autofocus

F1 in Abu Dhabi over the weekend. Took the XT1 but don't think I got a single decent panning shot. Will double check before I wipe the card, but pretty certain. Feh!

I hear it's "FUJI-CM" but haven't tried it myself

That's correct, WEX emailed me with their cyber Monday deals :)

Take the start price, get 10% off using the code, claim your £75.00 cashback and job's a goodun! Get another lens as well for a total £225.00 cashback.

I believe WEX do interest free finance on the 90/2 as well...but I need to stop buying stuff, so leaving it this time. Tragic :(

Yes, there has never been a problem with image quality. Glad you are happy.
We're unlikely ever to meet so I will never have to disown you in public!

Well they do move quite fast! What shutter speed were you using?

I tried everything between 1/60 and 1/200, but we were very near the front next to the circuit at turn 11, which won't have helped, and I've never done it before, which (i'm very sure) will have helped even less! Would definitely like to try on some slower/further away motorcars!

I had a similar experience at Oulton Park.
I too was stood comparatively close - probably closer than you and got next to nothing.
There was quite a debate on this thread (many pages back!) and the thought was that I was too close. That's one reason why I'm keeping the 5D3 because that can handle those situations.

What lens are you both using, and at what focal length? How long are you able to pre-focus/track before taking the shot?

Personally I find faster vehicles easier as you can use a faster shutter speed. Slower cars you have to drop lower to get a decent amount of blur.

One with the X-T1 and 23mm at 1/15:

Ok, going through in detail now. They're maybe not *quite* as bad as they looked on the LCD... Will post the best/least bad two or three and we'll go from there :D
