The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

First impressions I'm REALLY impressed with it. Took a few shots with the new Wide Tracking focus mode while panning (which nobody seems to have done) and it's amazing.

Both of thee were just quick snaps. Normally I'd have nothing like the keeper rate I got. :)

Very nice, I'm looking forward to the v4 upgrade, wonder how it'll perform with fast moving sports i.e rugby ?

I'm hoping so, then I might consider moving on my Canon 5d3 and getting some nice Fuji glass.

Canon or Fuji ? Can you imagine a 100-400mm on an XT10 ? It would probably look worse than my Canon 70-300mm L on my EOS M !

Canon already have 2 of em, they don't need anymore!!!!

The Fuji will be out next year. Pricey for sure but should make the system much more versatile for a lot of people.
I know and both of them are monstrous, especially that feckin trombone one ! I was (trying) to be facetious  :$

3x3 zone will be excellent for rugby i would have thought.

Fab pics btw s_s, the cyclist is brill! Make sure you have it set to the MS only with face and eye detection OFF.

Thanks. Just wait until I get some lovely blurry shots of fences at Formula E tomorrow. :naughty:

No I idea what you mean by ms only.

Mechanical Shutter only.

I'm motorsporting tomorrow, looking forward to giving the v4 a going over, see if it's any better than v3.1

How's the hooky V4 performing so far ?

Does the length of time to update from the pre-release version to the finished version indicate the pre-release was/is a lite version ?

Nah, you really need the Talk Photography neoprene strap to make your Fuji look seriously cool.

The TP branded Op-Tech strap is overkill for the X series IMO. Tamrac do (or did) a narrower one with a pair of pouches just the right size for spare batteries/cards and they give plenty of support.

You want a silly looking rig? This is a mate's 600 f/4 (IIRC) on a 1 series Nikon using the FT-1 adaptor. Didn't take a pic of it with the 1.4x telecon on as well...

Was impressed with v4 performance at my sons sports day. Did well tracking the kids running towards me shooting from the finish line. Main thing is to keep smooth panning and the subject in the focus area. This was using the cheap 50-230. Will post some samples later.

Just in case anyone would like to read it admiringlight.com have a first impressions piece on the X-T1O.

Just back from Wex :) All went well with the X-Pro1 trade in. Along with the £80 trade in bonus, I got the X-T10 for £199! Very happy with that.

Got it out of the box in store and tried it with an 18-55. Really well balanced I thought. It felt nice in the hands despite the small size - and yes, people aren't wrong - it is quite small!
I can get what the admirelight review is saying in terms of feel. I found it felt really comfortable for me (probably more so than I expected when I first saw its small frame in the flesh) but I have quite nimble hands. For some, they may find the cramped controls and size a bit too small.
Very light too, even with the 18-55. Definitely feels like a good upgrade from the XP1 in terms of function. If I shot more with the bigger lenses then personally I would consider the X-T1 over it just because it's that more balanced, but most of the time I either have the 18mm or 35mm on it - or occasionally some M42 glass so it suits me in that respect.

Hope everyone who has theirs are enjoying them :) Hopefully get out later with mine. Battery is on charge as I type.

I'd don't really get all these first impressions And reviews etc. it's a small XT1. It takes the same images.

Am I missing something?

Only the blindingly obvious - this is an internet forum on photography and people discus it, ask questions and share information for the benefit of others. A simple concept that may catch on :)

And, unless I'm missing something, things like the viewfinder size and display are different. So as far as I can see it's not just a shrunken X-T1.

Out of curiosity, does it have the dual-view finder display in manual focus, which shows a window with a magnified view alongside the standard window? I find that an incredibly useful feature of the X-T1, more so than the so-called split-image view.

The XT-10 is just a dumbed down version of the X-T1. Unless money is an issue there is no point. The new FW 4.0 is out in a few days and address the AF issues that I have had concerns with.

LOL. And I thought I was a sarcastic old git ;-)

Advice on wide lenses, please!

I have the 18-135, which is a perfect allrounder, but there's a sale on in the UAE stores, and I have nominal wife-permission if it means more nice pics for our walls, which means I'm looking at something wide. I like the idea of the 18mm as a walkabout, and that's less than £200. But then I really like the idea of the 10-24. I would miss the extra speed of the 18 a little, but then the 10-24 would get used more for landscapes and architecture stuff, which would dictate something slower anyway.

Any advice for someone who's only ever stuck to mid-range zooms before?

Plenty of 2nd hand 18s around cheap since it was the lens given away with the X-Pro1. Not a bad performer but a limited focal range! ;) The 10-24 is plenty wide for almost every use and is way more versatile than the prime route. Wide angles don't lend themselves to shallow DoF as well as longer lengths so the wider maximum aperture is less important than on (say) the 18-55/135.

Not had a "hands on" with the XT-10 but from looking at shots showing the top plate dials, I see it lacks the lock button on the shutter speed dial as well as a dedicated ISO selector while keeping the drive selector up top. Thankfully I have an XT-1 so don't need the cheaper model.

3 pics of Nick Hamilton (Lewis's baby bro) from yesterday's BTCC..
