Best bet, get to a shop or get online and start checking size/weight comparisons to build up your package but remember to keep it equiv. Im not bashing Fuji, it is a superb system (that Ive used a lot) but for a pro I think there are better options for a main system.

Based on pro blogs I've read online. Obviously I'll try one first. The factor I have mentioned is my health. Holding a smaller package appeals to me based on my weedy health. :)

David, I have owned a lot of Fujis and lenses and keep buying them but when a pro is asking about buying into a system and a comparison is there against what I know hes used Im not going to tell him the Fuji is lightening and he wont notice any difference, it gives him a better understanding of potential issues. Its a lot of money and I gather its not a purchase he is willing to experiment with.

Sure, I could make a really stupid comment and say its lightening fast, but whats that compared against and in what conditions.

Have to say that my XT-1 and 18-135 feels a lot lighter than my 5D and 24-105, especially if I'm carrying it for any length of time/distance. My shoulder appreciates this!

Try get down the shops if possible, will give you the best idea, seeing it on tinterweb or specs dont mean much in your case.

May be an idea to ring up your local and get them to order in whatever you want to look at, a lot of stores dont carry Fujis full range. FWIW, Ive used pretty much all the mirrorless systems and Fuji as a package is still my favourite.
 
My local store is pretty well stocked being the only camera shop in Northampton now.

60mm arrived, yey! Shouldn't have turned down the one Dave offered me when I got the camera, what a fun little lens!

You may also recall I mentioned the screen not rendering red properly - I've just noticed it goes further than that. During import in LR, they show up just as washed out in the import screen, but as soon as they're on the hard disk and opened up in develop then blam, full on scary saturation. I wonder if it's a profile issue with the camera generated thumbnails?

Suppose it'll settle in a month or two? Wasn't their X-T1 price crazy when it was released? Was expecting it to be around £400 tbh. Just had a text message from them though to tell me that my 18mm will be coming tomorrow. Nice!

Alan, the 60mm renders brilliantly, just stick with the focusing on it and it will reward you with some fab pics. Hopefully the new FW will improve it still.

It was, thats why I went elsewhere very quickly. 18mm is tiny!!
 
18mm is mainly for my X-E1 as the 23 is a little on the large side for the rangefinder style body. It'll work it's way onto my X-T aswell at some point i guess.

I was expecting not to like the X-E1 as much as i do, but the X-T1 has kind of taken a back seat for a few days. Maybe it's just the novelty of having a new toy to play with. :LOL:

Typical that now I'm back at work the weather is awesome. :rolleyes:

The 50-140mm is great lens,and yes it does work well,the IS is one of the best i have tried,AF is also really good,but sometimes it doesn't lock on focus always at the long end,but changing the area of the focus point i find did almost fix this problem,hopefully V4 firmware wil fix any little niggles with AF :)

My health took i turn for the worse a few years ago,i was using Nikon D700/D3 using mainly zooms 24-70-70-200 & 28-300mm,i found i just couldn't carry that kit around anymore,the fuji stuff i have now is a lot easier :)

There are, but only you know if that's a big factor.

Weight is a big deal. It makes a real difference over a day. I transferred so all my social stuff is now Fuji. Happy to be asked about pros and cons

I'm unlikely to be shooting all day (weddings) until next summer. Until then it'll be family, baby and portrait work. I shall go and have a look, but I think it's more likely that I'll stick with Nikon (D610/D700 backup) simply for the lens availability. If there were lots of Fuji lenses on the used market I'd reconsider.

Worth looking at the D750, its quite a big improvement over the D700 in every way incl weight / size. Theyre about £1200 from HDEW.

It's my first choice, but eats into the lens budget. D610 is a good compromise for now.

I know theyre cheaper but I thought the VAT status may be useful in his case being a business shooter and all.

I'm not likely to be doing enough to register for VAT. Not for a while, at least.
 
The reclaim rules are that you can claim for good bought up to 4 years before registration, when you file your first return after registration. If you think you will be VAT registered in the next four years, then buying from a VAT registered UK supplier should be a consideration.

4 years for goods, 6 months for services

If however you effectively make a claim on your first return (ie your input VAT is greater than your output VAT), do not expect to get the money immediately, you will have an initial inspection to make sure that everything is above board. This is mainly to stop companies setting up, making a large VAT claim (often fictitious), and then liquidating, with our taxpayers money!!!

Anyway back to the thread, regarding Fuji lenses and the s/h market, the primes and the 'kit' and older zooms generally are available s/h, its the 10-24, 16-55, 50-140 that are very rare s/h, either because people are hanging onto them, or because they just are not being bought, and therefore less are available.

£1200 HDEW, £1030 Panamoz, if that is going to make a huge difference to your life then maybe consider cheaper kit!
