The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Think I've found a niche, over 2000 unique visits to my Fuji blog in the past two days (on top of 2.5k last week) with people reading my 73MM and WHF write-ups. Getting lots of emails which I've not had the chance to follow up on including some fairly big sites asking me to write up a few Fuji related things (!)

I sense demand for the 100-400 will be pretty significant when it finally arrives, the X-T1 is more than capable of whatever you throw at it in my opinion, so it's definitely a viable option for all that sport/wildlife stuff.

Does anyone use the "m" adapter with their XT1? If so, what lenses do you use with it?
 
thought i would introduce myself to this thread as i'm soon to be an XT-1 owner (not ordered one yet as i cant decide what lenses to get with it)
just sold my Canon 5Diii and still have a few "L" glass lenses to move on before i take the plunge with Fuji. The move over to Fuji from Canon has been thought out over the last 6 months as i just didn't use the 5D3 for anything more than candid street stuff and a bit of travel photography... fast moving stuff like motorsport and nature/BIF dont appeal to me anymore so a more compact system like the XT-1 should fit the bill. I will be asking a few questions over the next few weeks so sorry if i repeat myself ...just need to pick your brains on few things ie. lenses and accessories that i will be needing.
 
thanks Dave, .... not sure what to go for lens wise! ... that 50-140 looks yummy (but the price doesn't lol) ...had a little look at it in Wilkinson's today and its a fair size!... stick it on the end of the XT-1 and i'm back to Canon DSLR size stuff.
I am pondering it tho! ...2 lenses that i think might do me are the 35 1.4 and the 50-140 ..... those two should keep the GAS at bay for a while. Anyone used the 50-140 yet?

I am considering the 16-55 atm, £750 at Panamoz. Might flog the 35 and 60 to help pay for it.

now prefer street, urban and landscape stuff and maybe a bit of portraiture.... nothing fast and i'm no machine gun shooter so the reports on the XT-1 not having the greatest AF speeds (although once read it had the fastest :confused: ) ..
just looking forward to being free from heavy equipment and having maybe 2 lenses in total to choose from! ... famous last words of any photographer eh? lol

Not sure what focal lengths you like but how about a 23 / 56 combo? They're about as good as it gets on Fuji X.

The 50-140 is fantastic (and on an X-T1 still quite a bit smaller and lighter than an equivalent DSLR setup) but I guess an acquired taste if you're looking to really downsize.

My Flickr has Albums for the 23, 56 and 50-140.

Not sure if the 50-140 really fits the bill then. :LOL:

23 and 56 would be perfect for your needs and perhaps throw in the Samyang 12mm mf lens.

If you're not against MF then some of the older legacy glass can be had for a pittance and MF'ing is a real pleasure on the XT.
 
the primes (23 & 56) sound very tempting :D) .... but as i always loved having my Canon 70-300 "L" in my bag which by the way is an amazing lens.... then i'm sure the 50-140 Fujinon offering would replace it.
I'm just trying to talk myself int buying s*** loads of great lenses here so i need counselling rather than encouragement :mad:;)
 
thanks lads :rolleyes: ... sounds like you are all like me' ...sleeping with one eye open waiting for the fedex/ups man to knock on the door' so you can get to him before the wife takes delivery of yet another piece of expensive glass.
 
Unfortunately not for me, temporary ban on any purchases over £100. Although I did try justifying the 50-140 to her but she was having none of it!
 
So, given that I'm still convalescing and, as I'm unable to drive for a while, I can't really get out and about to test7 the X-T1 yet so I'll just carry on annoying you lot with questions.

Q1: How do you use you X-T1s compared to how you used your DSLRs (assumed you used DSLRs previously or still do)? I have a couple of Sony DSLRs which, for 90% of the time, I used on 'M'. The thing is that, when in Manual mode on he A700, you cannot use auto ISO but it seems that you can on the X-T1. So is controlling the aperture and shutter speed yourself and having ISO on auto something that others do? It seems quite a logical way of doing so to me but I've never had the luxury of doing so myself.

Q2: How do you format an SD card? I can see how to erase images but nowhere can I find anything about formatting.

Q3: Shouldn't the X-T1 come with a USB cable? I went looking for one in he box as I waned to update the firmware but all I found was a European charger adapter. According to the manual, I just need a micro USB cable, which is what my phone charger is, bu9t that doesn't seem to fit. :thinking:
 
In no particular order...

'format' is the last option on 'set-up 3' menu iirc.

Go to the fooj site and d/l the latest firmware. Put the file onto your sd card and then hold the 'disp/back' button down whilst turning on the camera. It will bring up the firmware menu. Select which it is you want to update (body or lens) and let it do its thing.

I shoot in aperture priority mode and adjust the iso myself. Auto iso is excellent though, just haven't set it up yet.
 
1- aperture priority with AUTO ISO 95% of the time.

2- on the last page of menus under FORMAT IIRC

3- pass never used one if it did come with one, I use a card reader.

Me too but I was curious as to why the instructions say that it is a micro usb connection when my micro usb cable doesn't seem to fit.

Its now £799 at LCE & Fuji website,going to hang on a bit to see if it drop anymore :)

I really like the 18-135mm been using mine a lot over the last few days :)
 
MarK, the 55-200 should fill the 70-300 EFL gap and is as good as all the other lenses in the XF range. As a walkaround lens, I use the 18-135 which gives me the EFL of (roughly) 27-200 which covers most needs! Looking forward to 6 months after the long lens's introduction by which time it should be easier to get hold of and possibly even be available 2nd hand!

MarC, on my S:Rs, I tend to live in P mode most of the time, wheeling away from the suggested settings if/when I want a specific aperture/SS for a given shot, unless I'll be needing more specific settings for the vast majority of shots such as a slow SS for panning or a narrow aperture for landscapes. On the X-T1, I'm more likely to be in shutter priority for some reason, maybe because the dial feels so much nicer than the thumbwheel on the SLRs!

Mine came with a usb cable, but it's quite a bit slimmer than a normal micro usb cable. It's the same size as one that came with my Garmin Sat Nav.
I never use it though, I always take the sd card out and plug it into my laptop to download.

As do I Allan. The only time I ever plugged my DSLRs into my computer was for tethered shooting using Lightroom.*


*Talking of which, does anyone do this with the X-T1?
